NO, Dan Becker! Subscribing guarantees you'll NEVER lose another left sock to those Underpants Gnomes living in your dryer ! (OBOZ brand shoes own the no blister market.)
One that to note that I don't see covered often is how high up the fly sits on the Nemo. I have this tent and love it in fair weather. Very light and just the right size for 1 plus a dog. But, look closely at the fly configuration compared to the Tiger Wall. In addition to the high cutout on the back of the Hornet, the entire fly perimeter sits 6-8 inches off the ground. The tiger wall can nearly touch the ground. In a hard rain, you will get a ton of rain and mud bounce up under the fly of the Nemo. Those vestibules where you have your gear stashed now have even less usability. I really wish the fly was just a tad larger to provide full coverage when needed.
that's what keeps me from buying it. I love everything else. If they simply changed the fly, then maybe just put a vent at the top, it would be a done deal!
I’m glad you brought up the height of nylon walls versus height of mesh walls. I have a two person tent with mesh that goes way down (Marmot Ajax). I spent a windy night on Angel Island in the SF Bay in it some years ago. Woke up with my tent full of sand! My next tent will have way less mesh
yes hopefully no crazy methheads or serial killer sees your big flashy tent and come visit you in the middle of the night.... Snugpak all the way. they even got a Multicam fly tarp for the Ionosphere now.
Everyone should look at/consider the Dan Durston Ultamid series--found on Mass Drop. About $200, 31 oz, double wall sil-nylon or poly--can't remember which. What I am waiting for is a tarp that will set up easily for the ground AND the hammock.
Still out of my budget. Would love to see tents that are under 200.00 and may be one that is not always recognized by the hiker community. Lanshan, Naturehike, etc.
Dan, I think this is the BEST video about tents or gear that you've ever done! ( I'm keeping my Copper Spur) Loved how you compared the door types! You ROCKED this!
We own the BA Blacktail 3P tent. We are not ultralight people (longest hike/camp are 8 day trails) so the just above 5 lbs weight is not concerning comparing the price point for lighter 3 season tents. In AU $$ the tent was $299 with the footprint being an additional $70. No complaints with the tent. My one complaint is with Australia - no one here has the zenbivy nor have heard of it.
Kevin Tieu thanks for asking. Yes I prayed for Dan and his family. It was not a very long prayer, something along the lines of “God please protect Dan and his family and keep them safe and comforted.” As a rule of best practice, I find that if I don’t pray for that person as soon as I say I will, it winds up becoming a phrase out of habit rather than me following through. Granted, I’m not perfect, and sometimes I forget, but I try not to let it be just a phrase that I say and it actually means nothing!
Should also mention, if you work healthcare or first response Marmot is offering a one time 40% off any full price item. As far as I know that applies to tents as well
My brother and sis pitched in and bought a TigerWall UL3 for 30% off from the REI sale as a wedding gift for our honeymoon in September. Can't wait to try it out. Should be delivered this Thursday.
After watching I am happy I passed on the Nemo Hornet 2P, and got the x-mid 2p... little bit heavier but a lot more tent. At $280, it is a fantastic deal.
Have been using a Mont Moondance 2p for a few seasons now - essentially bombproof!! Properly built for Aussie conditions 👌🏼 Ecstatic with this tent and would love to see you give either the Mont Moondance OR One Planet Goondie tents some love! Enjoying the channel Dan 👏🏼
I recently just came across your channel and I have to say it is now one of my favorites. Thank you for speaking your mind on products and giving a real review!
I picked up the North Face - Sequoia 2 person tent for only 120 at my local sporting goods store. It has been an excellent backpacking companion. I like the more configurable vestibule that it has compared to the tents in this video.
It’s weird, but between my old model Hornet 2P and my newer REI Quarter Dome SL 1P.... I prefer my Quarterdome. Similar tent design, but the QD has a much larger vestibule, I found ventilation to be superior, and it has a bit more shoulder room. It’s shockingly roomy on the inside (I’m 6’2” sleeping on a long Xlite). Same weight. And it’s cheaper. There is little I find I miss about the Hornet, except for maybe the Jake’s feet making setup really easy. Then again, the QD can be setup fly first with a footprint, and doesn’t drip water every time you open the fly door....
I can’t understand why the tents are so brightly coloured. Whenever I go bikepacking im always looking for a secluded place to camp where I won’t be seen and the last thing I want is a bright yellow tent with a white fly sheet. What were BA thinking? It’s like they make these tents to look good on instagram and not for actual camping.
Just replaced my old family tent with the Big Agnes Tiger Wall UL3, so excited. Next year I will be able to invest in a smaller solo tent for a solo hike. I'll keep these in mind!
Wish we could have met when I was visiting Kenosha. I went there quite often when I was living in Great Lakes. Im a midwesterner at heart(grew up in MI) but love the videos!
That's a good comparison Dan, thanks! Can see clearly the differences and pros/cons of each. Good luck with your home town. One day soon this madness will be over. In the meantime keep looking after yourself and your loved ones. ATB, Mark. 👍
Thanks for the info. I have been day hiking or backpacking cabin to cabin in the Porcupine Mountains SP, but am taking the plunge into tenting this year, and am shopping for a 2 person backpack tent (IRNP). Again, thanks
The Marmot should be colour coded. There should be little red tabs on each corner of one side of each the tent and fly. They are visible in your video. Are those on all the corners? They shouldn't be....(I use the Catalist2 and that's how it is)
Don’t blame you for taking your family away for a bit. Good review! I have the Tiger Wall 3 Platinum and love it! Super lightweight but have to watch that too. About the same weight as the two but a “three” person.
If I hadn't found a BA Copper Spur HV UL2 on sale last year, I would have gotten the Tiger Wall, I love my side entry tents. I went for a long time having single entry on the end style tent, but as I travel through middle age, the side entry tents are seemingly more roomy and easier to get out of in the middle of the night when nature calls, haha. I'm a huge fan of Big Agnes gear, I have multiple sleeping bags, sleeping pads in their brand. Great products:-)
I own the Tiger Wall 2 and it’s nice but just know when the fly gets wet the zippers are not the best. Be gentle. Other than that I love it. I use it solo. I got mine on sale at REI for 300.
I'm not positive, but my marmot limelight 4p doesn't have color coordination, but does have red tabs on one side that mach up with red tabs on the fly, and it looks like there may have been similar red tabs on the superalloy to help orient. Just observing, great video as always!
Here's hoping you and your family find some peace of mind away from Kenosha, and that your town gets through this difficult time. Love your videos - All the best!
Be honest...You're hiding at Kyle's place 😂 (but seriously...Stay safe) I prefer the Lanshan models (my personal choice) but great review... great tents for sure.
Couldn’t agree more, I just picked another ul backpacking tent (ended up going for the more pricey copper spur) but regardless of price these were the other three I seriously considered!
I hope you and your family are safe. Never, in my wildest dreams, did I imagine that this much unrest could be sustained in the US. Be safe, be kind, help others.
We now live in Tennessee and I am hiking the AT with my 70lb dog so definitely want the lightest 2 person tent!!! Thaa as no’s again for he great video!!!
I love my 2 pro. I will say that for winter, id rather have another tent. The Lanshan is fantastic in regular weather but chilly in the cold. These three are great tents. Ive seen two and they work well.
Thanks Dan. Just bought the Big Anges, currently on sale at REI. I've been wanting a better tent and respect your reviews. The sale pushed me into action!
I'm just getting into backpacking, how did the Big Angnes do for you since you bought it? That seemed like the best of the three to start with, but it'd be nice to hear from someone who's been using it for 2 years.
I enjoy your content and have been subscribed for a long time. I am so sorry to hear that your family has been effected by the recent unrest. Getting away for a little bit is a good idea until things sort themselves out. You are in my thoughts and prayers. God bless.
Hey Dan. Have you ever done a video on vests? I used to think they were stupid until I was required to get one for a mountain climbing trip in Alaska. Now I'm a fan.
Dan, be safe out there! It really sucks what's going on in and around our cities now! Hopefully they all don't decide to hit the woods in a tent! Did I see that the Nemo door zippers leave an open gap? I hate when things don't close all the way and let mosquitoes in! I'm also interested in how short the poles collapse for bikepacking. In that regard, I'd add the Big Agnes Fly Creek HV UL2 Bikepack to the list for $379. Thanks!
Interesting. The Nemo hornet 2p is too short for me to lay in at 6’3. I love the tent but couldn’t sleep without my head or feet touching. This is on a 3” thick BA sleeping pad though...might be able to make it work on ccf. Great tent, I was sad to return it.
You should have mentioned the guy lines for Big Agnes tiger wall 2. Its a con seriously worth mentioning especially if we are going to call out the hornets guy lines which are pretty bad but nothing like the fixed pre cut lines of the tiger wall 2.
Sorry to see what's happening in your hometown. I have my fingers crossed that it ends soon. I own both the Nemo Hornet 1 and 2 person. I highly recommend I also have the Tarptent Aeon Li and Dan Durstan's 1 person tent
I'm looking at getting a Hornet 1p for solo adventures, smallish thru hikes. Whats it like for holding gear inside, would you recommend it over the 2p or is it worth dealing with the extra weight and getting the 2p if i want a bit more inner tent room?
Hay fellow kenoshan, subscribe, thanks for the videos. In the process of getting back into hiking and camping from a ling hiatus from doing high adventure hiking in scouts. One thing i will say i think its crazy the pack weights you guys use. When we did hiking we all used external frame 85 liter packs loaded no less than 60lb, me at 6ft 145lb regularly ran 75 to 85 pounds. Now from a motorcycle accident bad back, hip and knee I'm hesitant to do long hikes.
I've spent a lot of time in Kenosha. 10 years in Waukegan. Prayers are with you all. Thanks for looking at the tents. I'm a hammock camper but I've been thinking about a tent for some places where there are next to know trees.
Subscribing guarantees you’ll never have blisters hiking
🤣😂
Did you talk about Family Tents 6-8 for ultralight camping because my Back was killing me last time my Wife packed

NO, Dan Becker! Subscribing guarantees you'll NEVER lose another left sock to those Underpants Gnomes living in your dryer ! (OBOZ brand shoes own the no blister market.)
I'd love to see packed size included in stats on any gear in the future. As a bikepacker that's almost more important than weight to me.
Agreed, I know the nemo gets really small, but I'd like to see the other ones for comparison. Just had to return a tent because of the packed size.
Ms_87J I of course have my eye on the Big Agnes bikepacking-specific tents, but also keeping an open mind on other options.
@@Galactico42 big agnes has a sweet price at rei right now ;)
Check out the Marmot Super alloy. Poles are shorter than most a may pack into panniers better
Ms_87J picked up a copper spur 3 person from rei for $375 few weeks back
A table at the end with all of the key stat comparisons would have been a nice touch ;)
Love my Nemo Hornet... but I find issues with the bottom and rain puddling where it comes off.
that's what keeps me from buying it. I love everything else. If they simply changed the fly, then maybe just put a vent at the top, it would be a done deal!
Our prayers are with you and all the people of Kenosha. Be positive! After this, all of you will be a lot stronger.
Marmot Limelight 3P was my hero on a very stormy trip. Everyone else got soaked. I was very impressed and happy with it.
Love my Nemo Hornet 2! Super light, very compressible, and comes with me on most of my backpacking trips! Thanks as always Dan
How good is it at keeping water out.
yes hopefully no crazy methheads or serial killer sees your big flashy tent and come visit you in the middle of the night.... Snugpak all the way. they even got a Multicam fly tarp for the Ionosphere now.

Just bought my TigerWall UL2 and ground sheet from REI at 30% off during the Labor Day sale.
Good score!
John McA yeah! Still running this week too I think
@@guywithFX yeah still $299 compared to $399, I got one too.

Dan, I think this is the BEST video about tents or gear that you've ever done! ( I'm keeping my Copper Spur) Loved how you compared the door types! You ROCKED this!
