IDK man, blue devils have stairs in their show. IYKYK
Hey 2023 was a decade since the curse started I think. Now’s the time to break it!!!
I really liked your approach, very logical criteria for the rankings. Hope to see these kinds of predictions for the indoor guard/drumline/winds seasons 😁
I hope that PC makes it into finals, they've been one of the single most underrated corps of the past decade and they had a great trajectory since bringing it back in 2023 (Also honestly Into the Void was mostly held back by having so many holes, they did amazing in 2022 with their multiple setbacks and I will not hear otherwise)
First-time viewer! Really enjoyed it! I look forward to following!
Wow this was a great video can't wait to see how this season turns out now!
You not counting BD having a 3-peat is actually more indicative of your bias. So, your “gut feeling” is really just that. DCI calls it a 3-peat so it’s a 3-peat. Case closed.
I still feel that Cavies will place above the Troopers. Fun list though.
Well, DCI calls Allentown one show. A three peat is 3 calendar years in a row. 2019, 2022 and 2023 are not three years in a row. Sorry.
I believe it will be the Blue Devils followed by the Carolina Crown because Carolina Crown’s show looks very good so far. The Bluecoats will be number 3. It’s going to end up really close in score I think. We all shall see how things turn out at the season.
Boston’s top Color Guard performer was going to take the year off but decided to return and will be back on Monday. That could be the difference between Boston and Crown . Boston also had very good visual scores and their percussion is looking strong. I’m saying top 3 while being contenders for the Zingale and Sanford.
ive heard bk ‘24; trust me, they’re SO back.
I actually don’t disagree with this lolll
Blue Devils, Santa Clara Vanguard, The Cavaliers, and Phantom Regiment have made Finals 48 or 49 times out of the 50 years of DCI's existence (excluding 2020-2021 due to COVID-19 cancellations). The Blue Devils have been particularly dominant:
They have won 21 DCI World Championships, the most of any corps.
They achieved their first "three-peat" (three consecutive championships) in 2023.
Since 2008, they have won 6 out of 10 championships and have the highest average score (98.369)
I just left Crown's practice at Ball State and I will say this loudly: they will not lose to BAC at the Muncie show and I highly doubt anytime this season. Holy Smokes, they might even win guard and sweep all captions tomorrow.
I think I 100% agree with this entire list. No issue. I think all the points made were also very informative. Thank you for this video! So excited for this season!
The only thing I am intrigued on is Crossmen not in the top 15. Thats interesting.
don’t sleep on bk 🙏🙏
Please let them sleep on BK, it’s much more satisfying when you do better than they expected.
1st. Carolina Crown
2nd Blue Devils
3rd 4th Blue coats or Boston
4th 5th Phantom or SCV
Thanks! This was fun to watch. And even though I would love to see The Cadets’ name in this lineup (RIP), I would enjoy another BLOO win and seeing Pacific Crest crack the top 12!
Look forward to your updates throughout the season
Boston’s Amazing this year !! The cg is fantastic BAC
Not mad at this list at all. Hope you are right about Bluecoats and I agree, love Phantom Regiment’s show and SCV is coming back strong as well.
PC was so close last year and even came out of San Antonio in 12th place. My son is in the front ensemble and going into his third year. He wants to stay with PC until they make finals. The show so far looks great and they're definitely a much stronger brass this year.
I want Boston to win because corps that play Zappa always get the 4th place curse. (even though they are ruinging GST with the DJ garbage).
Right now the Blue Devils are up 2 hundredths of a point over Carolina Crown so far. We shall see how the rest of the season goes and see how things turn out the rest of the season.
I think Splanta will make finals. Although there is not much content out, I got o watch them rehearse and WOW do they sound solid
Second this-
I saw a full run of the show the other night and the entire show is solid
Crown has the Ott down, Fraternity on the move is insane
Mandarins had a 4 peat. Granted it was in a lower class but they are still the only corps with it.
as much as it may sound mean-spirited to say, I do have hopes that BD dont win this year, or maybe better, I hope that they dont even get silver medal
their performances are phenomenal in execution, and their show themes are interesting(if you understand it lol), but it feels like they very strictly adhere to a certain formula where they have their show formatted one way, and then slightly change it off the last show each year, so watching them sequentially viewers just see the same show twice whilst theres vague resemblance for shows from multiple seasons ago, with them all kind of blending together
at least thats how it feels for me when comparing their shows, and honestly I feel like theyre doing this each year because it works; players have fun, they get gold medals, and the DCI fanbase is still bitter, but I think itd just be more interesting if they did something much different and I feel like losing is the only way to make that happen
SCV at 6th is wild.....diabolic even. SCV not placing lower than 3rd. quote me and come see the comment after finals ❤💚
I could see maybe 4th... but agreed, ain't no way that SCV will be under Phantom
Must not have seen their show this year. They will be lucky if they get 4th
I truly hope they place better than 6th, and their music and performance level is likely going to be top notch. But... they're going to struggle to have the same kinds of strong GE that the other top corps have. And I even love the no-prop idea. It's just...
Those unis just don't work at the distance the field is from the crowd. In all of the wide shots, that blue is totally unimpressive and they look so small. Every close-up shot? Badasses and looks amazing. But from far away, they're just dark blue smudges. I just don't think it works, and the guard doesn't make up for it (again, from a GE perspective).
I hope you're right!
i agree 100000%
So we see the top 12 and 13 to 18 but we used to note 1 to 25 wonder why it's no longer done? Damn to build this kind of talent nationwide even from around the world we should see expansion not deterioration to total decimation. It's a damn mockery.
Idk man, The Mandarins do have that great momentum on their side, I don't think they would just drop that momentum just after jumping 4 places between 2022 and 2023. Then Spirit of Atlanta, i heard their corps was mainly rookies or something and still managed to get 15th.
Now heres the opinion that people will likely agree with. I dont know if Bloo is beating the Blue Devils. Im sorry.
I don’t disagree with this but I truly think crown will get 3rd and blue coats will win. I also think spirit of Atlanta will beat pacific crest but personal opinion.
Crossmen 50th Anniversary steamroller incoming
I bet Bluestar will be above Cavie, troopers, mandarins. anyway, hmm it's interesting with the top 3 here.
You are absolutely wrong about Bluecoats. Blue Devils will be the first corps to have a 4-peat. Bluecoats show does not even come close to BD. Also Mandarins will place much higher. Their visuals are incredible. They are on a roll. Nice try though.
Maybe he said it already, IDK, I skipped through the video but... Why did he mention the cadets
1. I hope Mandarins break top 5. I think their momentum will continue and they have a super intriguing show.
2. Cavies shows are meh. Haven’t been excited about any of their concepts in years. Drums sound good, I think Boston’s is better. Horn line is rough though.
3. Troopers will make finals again. And I think break top 10
4. Phantom sounds great but man.. after seeing them.. they stand and play A LOT. Like a majority of the show they stand and play. I personally don’t like this and feel it’s a trend that needs to go away.
5. Carolina Crown play well but man they struggle to have that magic they had 2011-2016. Don’t see them in top 3
6. SCV could go either way. The social media has been kind of all over the place. Uniforms look cool.
7. Boston’s drumline is smoking right now. Guard is the strongest this early from the groups I have seen (surprise surprise), and they sound great. Uniforms don’t add to the show in my opinion until the ballad, so not sure if they GE will be up there enough to help them compete.
8. Bloo win. I can’t wait to see what they have going on. When I saw they were playing Foreplay Long Time I about lost it. I’ve heard they are going to dominate this year so fingers crossed.
I was STUNNED by the Mandarins preview at Family Day, and they weren’t even in costume yet.
I agree with this. I am a die hard fan of the Green Machine but to be honest, the gears need to be greased big time.
I 100% think Carolina Crown will beat Boston. Also, no one is beating Blue Devils this year.
Honestly, I think it will end up like this:
1)Blue Devils
2)Crown
3)Boston
4)Bluecoats
5)Vanguard
6)Phantom
7)Mandarins
I too did NOT like the glitch performance. It just felt all over the place. The costumes, the disjointed music selection, the digital scratching. I get what they are going for. It just doesn’t work for me. That being said their execution was super tight for a first show!
Don’t sleep on Music City y’all just wait
dont sleep on splanta
Yall aren’t ready for what Music City has to offer this year. Just wait
I agree with most of your rankings. I think Carolina Crown is going to be higher than 4, and I love your Bluecoats pick. My jaw dropped when the Blue Devils made #1 last year. The only thing good about that show was the Cowboy Bebop theme. Here's my hope for this season - less dancing and prancing - more marching...please! And stop letting crazy instruments like keytars, recorded soundtracks, and amplification in shows. C'mon! I know -wishful thinking. Trombones are awesome, though. 🤣
😂😂😂😂 BD 4peat
Everyone wins....😅
Crown likely 4th again. Same old-fashioned show.
BD wins with the same show they’ve done for 7 straight years while hearing how innovative they are with a .01 percent audience approval rating….
My hot take this year is that crown gets their first percussion award (probably wrong but a fun prediction) and brass, while taking bronze, boston gets ge with silver and bd gets visual and guard for that real 3-peat.
And that mandarins arent as good as everyone on the internet wants them to be
Okay having watched Bluecoats premier, none of this is valid and I agree that they're gonna get a gold this year. And I'm not actually mad about it, due to the lack of "hippie" in their show
So EVERYONE's uniforms look like cheap screen printed flat stuff. Blue Stars being the biggest offender of this - but even to Blue Devils - the looks seems like a downgrade. Colts and Phantom probably have the least cheap look to them. The Cavaliers putting their entire corps in flowing green gowns - what the hell man.
From what I've seen: I don't see Blue Stars making finals. I don't know what that product is and plenty of design choices if not changed make me question what they are doing. The Cavaliers just seems like a mishmash of things with no real theme. I don't dig the selections. Boston while the best Wednesday night - here they present us with an amazing GE monster of a theme and it feels very underwhelming and less than what they could do with the visual aspect.
That's it for my OVERreactions to the first day of the 2024 season. May you take them with a grain of salt.
Calling my shot...
1. Boston Crusaders... I think Glitch may be something Special
2. Phantom Regiment... I think this show has the bones of Babylon... its just dirty now
3. Bluecoats... One too many ethereal shows
4. Blue Devils... Weve seen this show before.. 2019, 2022, 2023 and now again in 2024. I think the judges may punish them
5. Mandarins... Momentum is a scary beast to mess with
6. Carolina Crown... Great hornline... boring everything else
7. Cavaliers... Drumline too good to place this corps any lower
8. Troopers... This corps has such a solid identity and design direction.. plus a killer drumline
9. Santa Clara Vanguard... Slotting is real. Going on first at every show until San Antonio is gonna hurt them
10. Colts... Nice concept at the announcement but the show is meh. Talented corps though and too good to leave out of finals
11. Spirit of Atlanta... Ive seen secret video... they are REALLY good
12. Pacific Crest... I like the look and the concept but its super rough right now... but they started out rough last year too. Just a gut feeling here
13. Crossmen
14. Blue Knights
15. Blue Stars
16. Madison
17. Genesis
YES... I know I put two new corps into 11th and 12th. A little caveat... my thought is that from 11th down to 16th is gonna be even more of a bloodbath than last year was. Id be shocked if there is more than a point and a half of spread between all those groups. You may as well drop all their names into a hat and draw them out at random because I reckon they will all be leapfrogging each other all season long
I don't like the Blue Devils, but they are never gonna leave top 3 because of how these judges work.
I really hope BD falls below top 3, below top 5 would be gas, and out of top 12 even better. But there’s better chance drumcorps becoming free than that😮💨
Here’s the placements
1) Crossmen
2) Colts
3) Blue Stars
4) Troopers
5) Cavaliers
6) Mandarins
7) SCV
8) Phantom Regiment
9) Boston Crusaders
10) Carolina Crown
11) Bluecoats
12) Blue Devils
A couple of hot takes for sure. Blue Devils barely squeaking into finals this year.
😂😂
Found the Crossmen fan...🤣
As WONKA would say: Wait a minute…strike this…reverse it…on we go!
