The point of the meme question is it is an unknown/strange bear. There's no "depends" about it, they are being asked to choose between the stereotypical male or the stereotypical bear. And the stereotypical man treats women worse than the stereotypical bear according to the vast majority of women online.

Playing dead will cause an attacking bear to lose interest. Would the same work on a man attacking a woman?
And yeah. Most people. The entire reason we're having this conversation is that most women would rather the bear than a man and that triggers you.

Why does everyone think this is a feminist issue? I’d rather be alone in the woods with my husband, or dad, or brother; but I’d rather be alone in the woods with a bear than a strange man.
As a woman who has run into bears in the woods and been left alone, I have run into a man who hasn’t left me alone.
We are able to assess the greater potential for danger even if both options are dangerous. All of these men laughing that a bear could easily overpower a woman forget that pretty much any man could overpower any woman as well. That’s why women think differently about this than men.
A bear in the woods has potential for harm, but no intent on malice. A man in the woods has the potential for harm, but also the potential for intent of malice. They both have the ability to overpower a woman.

Only reason she is alive is because another car came near the alley and scared them off (unknowingly). The police officer who responded said they officially tell citizens not to fight, but unofficially if she hadn't resisted most likely they would have found her dead body in an empty lot the next morning. On the other side of the country, she had a car of men slow down while she was jogging and they shot her in the stomach with some low powered something - she was lucky. Many women experience some type of SA in their lifetimes, and more men kill women than bears do. While I don't assume every man has ill-intent, if you don't know them, women must be cautious. You have to be cautious even if you do know them. However, the majority of men you meet in the woods share common humanity with you and that is your hope if you need help. When women say the bear they aren't kidding because they think they don't need men but its been proven several times that women need men, common sense tells us women REALLY need men. There was a survival show that had a group of men against a group of women stuck on a tropical island for a few weeks or something. The men had a fire immediately, constantly caught fish, built a boat, were having fun and laughing the entire time and it was organized and went smoothly. They almost had to pull the women off the island because they were near death. They couldn't start a fire, couldn't catch fish or get any food, couldn't purify their water without fire, they were all fighting and complaining the entire time and getting sick from drinking dirty water and fainting on the beach. At one point they tried to leave the beach to get back to camp and they ended up walking in a circle and ended up right back at the beach. So they decide to try it again and they walk in a circle AGAIN and for a second time are right back at the beach. The doctor wanted to pull them before their kidneys failed. Haha shit was funny but yeah, women could handle a bear. The survival show is proof that if a woman were alone in the woods she has a lot more to worry about than just the bear.

When I have to go outside at night you can bet I’d rather see that bear coming through the trees than a man I don’t know. The bear is supposed to be there, the man isn’t. I’ve run into bears several times in the woods, this is not uncommon. Yes, a bear could overpower me, but so could a man. Just because I don’t want to run into a strange man in the woods doesn’t mean I don’t need men. That’s a ridiculous conclusion to jump to.

He can then help you find shelter directly afterwards; can a bear do that? Either way, I would rather deal with the man instead of the bear.

It really can’t be reversed. A bear would be just as likely to attack or leave you alone as it would a woman. We’re on equal footing there.
However, if you came upon a woman in the woods and she attacked you, more than likely you could overpower her.
If a man attacked me in the woods, I could not overpower him. Here, we are not on equal footing.
This isn’t about women being against men, it’s about assessing potential threats.
A bear or man can overpower a women, both are unlikely to, only one has the potential to choose evil intent, but I can’t overpower either one.
A bear can overpower a man, both are unlikely to, only one has the potential to choose evil intent, BUT you can overpower the woman.

Not everyone is going to choose bear, but many people are going to based on their experience. I live in the woods where there are black bears. They’re supposed to be there, humans aren’t. If I lived where there were polar bears, or if the question was a mountain lion vs. a human, I’d choose the human. But where I am, and my frame of reference, I’d choose the bear.
The point of the question, though, is we don’t know these things, it’s ambiguous. It shows how different people will have different perspectives and make different choices based on their experiences, size, gender, age, assumptions, and location.

People forget the fact that if you leave the Bear alone, it will leave you alone. If you leave a man alone it can go three ways: 1. They are wondering why you are leaving them alone and the gears ⚙️ start turning due to insecurity. Could end badly. This is the 50/50 guy. 2. They are mad you are leaving them alone and berate you for leaving them alone and now the situation is hostile and they want to teach you a lesson for leaving them alone. This is the Macho Man. And 3. They are fascinated by the wilderness and completely ignore you because of the worms and bugs and trees and mushrooms and moss and rocks…boys love rocks. This is the softer man.
So… what are the odds of being with the softer man? Not very likely, 1/3 chance. When a bear is a bear 100% of the time.
