  • It's critical that a startup company protect its intellectual property, stock ownership and team effectiveness as you build your team. Protect patentable ideas, copyrights, and trademarks by working with an attorney to get intellectual property assignment agreements in place. Protect your trade secrets by getting non-disclosure agreements in place. Protect your stock ownership with some approach to stock vesting, such as a declining buy-back agreement.

What are the possibles ways to protect the idea of a software or an App you launch? How do you protect your software, how and where it is used, from reverse engineering? I am trying to find on internet how Elon Musk protected PayPal software source code and reverse engineering but couldn't find it. Any idea how Elon did that?

The two ways I'm familiar with to protect against reverse engineering of software is (1) If you have a difficult to figure out algorithm, then you protect that as a trade secret and hope competitors can't figure it out, and (2) If your software is patentable, then that too is a way to protect against reverse engineering.
