✨Update: It's been a year since I first released this recipe and have a new easier method to make this frosting here: czcams.com/video/8kAcmqoQE_U/video.html
Can you put the amounts back please because I prefer this recipe and would rather use it🙏
Just came here to say I made this in September and now I wish I had the amounts still because I need it again today. 🥹
@@avaseufert3537 I found it she has it still linked in the new one. 🫶✨️
Do you still have the recipe for this one though?
I’m so relieved it ended up being black cocoa powder and not activated charcoal! 😂 As far as black dye alternatives go, the cocoa powder will always be my first choice. So so excited to try this for a Halloween cake!
Came here to make this comment, as well! Was so happy to see it was NOT the charcoal!
@@tsnmproductions Look it up. Using activated charcoal in food is a very popular trend right now.
@@cbgbstew4072 is there a different taste between them? But whats the issue if you use activated charcoal over black cocoa?
Activated charcoal decreases the effectiveness of many medications including birth control, painkillers, and antidepressants.
@@dazaiosamu4780 It would affect the taste at least some, but another issue to using activated charcoal is that it can be dangerous for people on medication, as it can negate the effects if anything containing activated charcoal is eaten within an hour either before or after taking the medicine.
The charcoal decreases the amount of medicine the body absorbs, which can be reeeeally detrimental!
You nailed this! Adding a tablespoon or so of regular cocoa can offset the alkalinity too and create a more straight-forward light chocolate flavor. Hershey's original is especially tangy. Too much cream of tartar can taste metallic. Just a warning, black cocoa can cause some alarm the next day in the bathroom
Yeah that’s def something to watch out for so I have a range to use with the cream of tartar or maybe some won’t even need to use it. I’m incredibly sensitive to alkaline flavors as I tend to look for it to asses the pH in a recipe but yeah great point
That’s what I do for my copycat oreo cookies, it works great.
@@TheSimplyCooking hey if it's not too much trouble could you comment your recipe?
@@Sugarologie did you use crushed up oreo cookies to make the frosting
@@mehchocolate1257 they used black cocoa powder
“Spreadable cookie part of an Oreo” actually sounds amazing, the cookie is my favorite
Just bring me a straw
The fact that I’m getting this sorta recipe, tips and tricks and info for FREE is absolutely beyond my mind... some really be charging $20 for a basic american buttercream tho like what😭
I couldn’t thank you enough for your great videos!
This is excellent. Simple and straightforward and perfect for the season!

@Code Dage Sure the creator is making money off of this, its CZcams man. But I think the commenter is just appreciating that the recipe is accessible and free to the public, not hidden behind a paywall
I had never even heard of "black cocoa powder" until now. It's so odd that I, as a chocolate lover, never knew of its existence. I'll have to try it. I love the look that it makes. So elegant. I love the idea of the black frosting on the outside, but once opened, I'd like a rainbow of colored cakes on the inside.
THAT sounds amazing... and now I want to try!

I had never heard of black cocoa powder until I went to a Bulk Barn one darn. I had had no idea something like that existed.
It makes an amazing chocolate cake.
If you were to write a cookbook, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I love your approach to recipe development, and you have a real talent for it. Looking forward to trying this!
second this!! only been watching for maybe a month, but i'm truly in love with her genius haha
I would buy a cookbook that your wrote too!
Me too! 😋
*So am I* 🤩
OMG…I just found you and you’re beyond amazing! I’m a nurse and love to bake so getting a taste of the biological/chemical side makes my heart smile. Keep up the great work and keep bringing on these educational videos. Your explanation is enhancing my baking skills to understand my ingredients integrity, consistency and flavours to make a more wholesome cake!! 😊
❤️❤️❤️
You genius! Made the whole cake today from the cake, to the filling to the frosting. It was a stunner and absolutely delicious! Trust the process was the phrase because at first it looked dark brown, but quickly became the most wonderful black and tasted delicious! Thank you so much for the 4 1/2 cup recipe. Perfect for my 3 layer 8 inch.
Thats amazing. I had no idea there were even alternatives to icky black food coloring. You've changed the Groom's cakes and New Years eve pastry possibilities forever!
YES!!! Now i can make the Goth bloody (red fruit jam) cake of my dream for upcoming Halloween!!!!
Thank you so much for the video. This is fantastic 💚
So basically this is like an ermine frosting but with black cocoa powder, cool. I'll definitely have to try this one day!
Wow, what an incredible looking frosting! I definitely need to try this one.
I just ordered some black cocoa so I can make this!! I love how creative your recipes are!
So glad I saw this… I’ve had a hard time with black buttercream so I’m excited to try this!
That is one of the most beautiful cakes I have ever seen! And the ratio and textures of each component looks incredible!
wow this sounds like probably the most delicious frosting ever and the shiny black gooeyness of it all is giving me ferngully super mysterious i need this frosting in my life
You nailed it, H5! I love you “deconstructed” approach to your recipes!
I absolutely love All of your videos. They are so informative and you explain everything with such great detail. This is absolutely brilliant!Thank you for all you do.
O my gosh thank you for making this video! You’re a genius!!
I studied your videos and took a leap of faith, making my first chocolate ganache frosting on a coffee-infused oil cake (another technique I learned from you). I'm truly grateful for your work.
This is so cool!! I love how creative your approach is
I have never seen black cocoa used this way to make frosting/icing but it absolutely makes sense and eliminates the grittiness and it looks amazing.
Wow, that cake looked to die for. I don’t often bake but I really want to make this recipe 🤤🤤
Love this. Your work is so enthralling and whip-smart!
I don't bake personally but this is revolutionary because you are right most of the cake videos that I see with black frosting would involve black dye. I suddenly remembered my last birthday where I had a galaxy themed cake. The baker who did my cake made it so delicious but my mom initially thought it was not good anymore to consume since the black dye would leave green stains on a white plate. This is actually a good info.
That cake looks amazing.
What a fantastically informative video! It has the exact right amount of information, along with really great visuals, and it goes at the perfect pace. New subscriber!
How fantastic!!! This was so much fun to watch.
I’ve never heard of black cocoa before, but what a fantastic Halloween 🎃 idea!
King Arthur Flour sells in on their website :)
Very informative! Love the science in this! Thank you..the outcome is stunning
*This looks so good* 🤩
Just found your channel. So easy to watch AND listen to. To the point with not extra fluff! Subscribed!
Absolutely brilliant
Thanks so much for this! Haven’t needed it yet but I’m sure I will someday and had no idea how I’d achieve it!
Subscribed! I'm a super basic Baker (Quick breads, dump cake, scratch cookies but everything else is from a Box mix) And I'm trying to understand the Methods needed to follow genuine recipes and I really appreciate how straightforward and easy to understand your videos are. Just found you and definitely going to watch more videos
Oh, this is lovely! I like making cream cheese-based frosting myself, for that slight sourness to offset the sweetness of the cake and high creaminess.
Science and baking! You are so talented! 🎉
Definitely trying this
Thanks
I can’t wait to try this!
I didn’t know black coco powder existed, but now I do so thank you for the education. Your cake looks absolutely beautiful.
I just LOVE your content!
First video I ever watched of yours and for no reason except it popped up on my feed and I bake. WOW I will definitely be watching more of your videos! I love you and how you narrate and explain! Would love videos on your cake and filling if you don’t already have them!
EXACTLY what I was looking for, thank you.
You definitely deserve more than 82k subs!
Girl you’ve got it going on. Nice video
I had my mind on using the dutch cocoa in my frosting for a Black and white theme. However, I decided to have my cake black because they wanted a peanut butter frosting (huge in my family). It turned out extremely well and I wouldn't have thought of that if I did not see your video. I will have to try the black frosting for our Sunday dinner next week. I really enjoy your channel!
OMG thank you! Like seriously
Having _NEVER_ heard of "black chocolate" before now, I'm simultaneously surprised, shocked, AND delighted! Thanks so much for the concept, which I simply _MUST SHARE_ with my two adult daughters, both of whom are avid & creative bakers & cooks. *_THEY_** will love this concept, too!*
👍💖😉
I’ll definitely be trying this when I get the chance.
This is so beautiful and perfect for Halloween
You are talented
She's so much more than that.. she's a genius!
Thanks for the recipe!
Wow genius! I’ve always done the microwave method I can’t wait to try this method. TFS
I need to make this after I make your Ermine buttercream, this looks fantastic
This is sooo cool -- thank you !
Someone gives her a medal, this looks just amazing. If you ever cook a version without sugar/low sodium/low fat, I'll pay you whatever 🤓. Great work.
It looks like a gorgeous black oil paint.
This is so cool! I can't believe there is another scientist baking woman out there! I'm really happy I found your channel :-). I'll try this recipe soon, thank you for sharing!
Thank you SO much!!!
You just saved my granddaughter's Barbie birthday cake!! I love you!!!!!
So when i tried it, it was too brown when it was the perfect consistency. I kept mixing like it said in the instructions and it turned almost black, still a little brown, but it was super runny. Did I do something wrong? Should i have chilled it again?
This is awesome!
Tried this for my Halloween party cupcakes and they turned out great! And they didn't stain our teeth! Definitely going to be using this in the future 👌
How did the buttercream taste? ❤
Genius!!!!! Thank you!!!
Fabulously educational and easy to understand. Thank you! Liked and subscribed. 😍
Looks delicious
I love the Dutch black cocoa. It's my new favorite, sooo many black cakes coming out of my kitchen now lol.
If you can please share where exactly you found the cocoa, please.
I make my son a black cocoa cake every year. I will try this recipe today . Thanks
This frosting on a red velvet cake would be the sexiest damned thing in all of human history.
Love it!
This is brilliant 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Love this 🖤
You’re so talented and a genius! I like the idea of using cocoa powder in the frosting. The cake looks delicious and awesome.

Whoa 😳 you have changed my life for the better and I thank you for that 💘💘💘😋❣️✨
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! Excellent recipe wow, very ingenious!!! Blessings and ty so much for sharing!!!😇🥰😍🤩🙏🙏🙏
I've been trying to figure out how to make black marshmallows to put in stockings like coal. I think you just gave me the answer! Thanks so much!!
Perfect, soft, brilliant ❤️❣️❤️
Thank you! 😊
My friends and I are either all turning 30, or will be 30 by mid November of 2024. A jet black group birthday cake for our 'funeral for our 20's' seems like a great fit.
Oh my gosh i want some of that cake so baaad! 😭
Interesting 🧐 in Mexico we have Black coated breads using Totomoxtle aka corn husk ash. I use the ash when making pan de muerto ☠️ and it does not have any sort of funky taste at all. Another natural alternative to dye baked goods 😊 I wonder if the ash will work as a replacement in this black cocoa recipe tho 🤔 only way to find out it to make it!
Eating ash?? Ick.
Let me know if that works, please!
Thanks for always share your useful videos I always learn something new with you blessings 🇲🇽👍👏🙏
sure learned something from this
I wish I had seen this before I made a black-frosted cake for Halloween!
You are my new favorite channel! ❤
Wow, thank you!
I would use this cake as a wedding cake.
Wow, what an interesting way of making buttercream icing. I've never seen anyone made icing like this before
You are becoming my go to channel for baking fixes. Such a wealth of knowledge! I'm wondering if you made the frosting but weren't planning to use it right away, could you just put it in the fridge in say a sealed container then take it out when you're ready and then whip it?
You are everything I want to be when I grow up ❤
Sounds strangely delicious.
so i've been getting into baking more and this was perfect for a birthday cake, in the exact amounts described.
Anyways, my elbow hit the bowl when I was adding the cream of tartar to my hot chocolaty syrup and upended the entire bowl. D: We laughed, we cried... we made another batch. It came out great! I'm so glad I found this recipe last week.
I see I have discovered my cooking twin.
i love your brain omg
i'm just so glad you're not one of those folks irresponsibly telling others to put activated charcoal in their baked goods
omg I need to try this. tbh the cookie is my fave part of the Oreo lol
I'm so excited to try this frosting. Do you have a video on the marshmallow filling?
Amazing 🤩
great video thank you
This is so cool! Is there a way to know the measurements and list of ingredients?
