I bought a cheap ex track rental Ferrari F430 which came with a engine completely stripped engine & gearbox. My Dad and I have worked together to rebuild the Ferrari Engine & Gearbox whilst keeping it on a budget & todays the day we find out whether all our hard work pays of because we are starting it for the first time!

Mat's channel is just pure CZcams gold, and definitely no coincidence that it's already approaching 2M subscribers! A very likeable team, great storytelling while explaining things very well, cool cars, masterful editing and just a boatload of enthusiasm. This is the only channel I sit down for every time there's a new video. Keep it going guys, don't ever change the formula.
Storytelling is certainly a speciality of that team!!! I'm surprised they don't ACT up more for the camera.... wonder which youtuber will end up with that 360 next!

- pull the fuel pump fuse when turning it over to avoid petrol in the cylinders.
- 75w80 offers equal protection to 75w90 but gear changes are much nicer.

From what I heard, My father was an A+ mechanic as well.. unfortunately he pass before I was born so i never had the pleasure to meet him.. The time Mat is spending with his dad is priceless.. so I'm living Vicariously through these videos.. fantasizing that could have been us.. There is NO WAY you got this engine started with a mix match of two engines, two gearboxes and a bunch of random wiring tries, Mat, you and your dad must be the best mechanic/rebuilders I've ever seen, loving it

17:32 - The take home lesson from this experience is that when you rebuild an engine, it's a good idea to get hold of an oil gallery priming cylinder that you fill with oil and use compressed air to force into the oil galleries. Generally that it connected where the oil pressure sender is attached. You may have to fill the cylinder a number of times to get the oil through all of the oil galleries. When you then crank the engine the first time, you should have oil pressure pretty quickly. The good decision on your part was to crank it without the plugs in so that there was no load on the big end journals.

Normally you would have to build initial pressure with external pump...but we all do it with a starter and its fine...a tip to pull the fuel pump fuse next time so you dont sump unburnt fuel into cylinders next time. Its normal for engine to rattle like that when dry

Congratulations, hope gearbox and diff are ok. It helps the hydraulic valve lifters if you submerse in a container with engine oil overnight before fitting them. This usually primes them.
The father's reaction to it firing up is priceless. The pride and feeling of achievement all through his body posture and reaction.

Just having had a similar experience of building sth with my dad yesterday. I can tell you the joy is immense and the moment is priceless, time is no longer a limit and fatigue won't dare to bother. Mat is among the luckiest in the world, having shared this experience many times with his fantastic dad. Keep up the good work and that big smile on your dad's face, Mat.
PS: I'm no longer living in my country, which made it even more special to do such a thing with my father as we don't see each other that often anymore.

Well done Matt and Matts Dad,Tony but you really should unplug the fuel pump when cranking an engine without sparkplugs installed as the correct air to fuel mixture for a decent explosion is being pumped into your workshop. And there is potential sparks that could ignite that fuel air mix all around an engine and workshop. A petrol explosion is very very dangerous within a workshop.

i love these series, only started watching at the audi recently but its so cool to see how these cars go together and the work you put in, all packaged up in some epic videography that quite calming to watch.
