  • Ace Combat 7 and Project Wingman - Double Feature Review
These games are both awesome. I think Wingman just about edges out the win. Incidentally, apparently that game has a development team of 3 people, which is insane to me. One writer, one composer, one developer.

Project Wingman was actually pretty much embraced by Ace Combat fans as a part of its legacy (which is no surprise, cause it was made by fan, for fans and for money, donated by fans).

@@SilverMont and there is one particular thing PW managed to pull off that AC didn't - achieve a success in a niche genre without having a single licensed aircraft. Actually, AC tried to toss real planes as well in its AC3, but a number of unfortunate circumstances and decisions has buried almost every concept that this game had to offer (which is sad, because actually it was ahead of its other).
And this is actually a huge thing - not only it allowed to save tons of money during the production, but also removed the need to spend on licence updates during the life game's life cycle. So it means less issues with a potential sequels funding and will allow PW games to stay on the shelves indefinitely, unlike AC that needs to balance its budget between usual development expenses and plane licenses, so they could make the game that has enough brands to attract players, be good enough to keep them and be profitable enough so it could pay itself to stay alive.
And the last is the reason why we won't see re-releases or remasters of older games, and that's why Ace Combat Assault Horizon is gone from PC, despite being more than playable - as well as any flight, racing or other games that use any kind of licensed stuff (including music), at some point they just become unprofitable.
So despite AC being a huge legendary series, only a single game of it is available for purchase outside of the aftermarket, and it also will be gone soon after the sequel is released, while Project Wingman will stay at least on PC for in the foreseeable future (unless some unforeseen legal difficulties pop up years later).

Ace Combat's Strangereal kind of has three different storylines going on. The first came from 1999's Ace Combat 3 and Project Aces is doing their damnest to retcon it out, though you still see some references to it such as General Resources Ltd. in the DLC if you do some digging.
The second comes from 2001's Ace Combat 4. This involved the planet being struck by a large asteroid. A few years prior to impact, the asteroid was discovered and the various countries went about devising a means to destroy it. This ultimately lead to Stonehenge, the railgun array used to shoot down the Arsenal Bird. Stonehenge was MOSTLY successful in destroying the asteroid; a single gun failed during the event. Fragments from the asteroid that gun was supposed to intercept struck the city of Farbanti, resulting in the flooded section of the city. Meanwhile, Stonehenge could do nothing to protect the southern hemisphere of the planet, leading to a massive refugee crisis. The nations of the world got together to take in the refugees. Erusia, however, was in no shape to do so, and closed its boarders, resulting in a humanitarian crisis. Royally pissed off at Erusia, the other nations slapped the country with crippling sanctions. With nowhere left to go, Erusia began preparing for war. Their first act was to seize Stonehenge via military force and repurpose it as an antiaircraft weapon, giving them de facto air superiority over the entire continent. This in turn allowed them to wage a successful ground campaign to conquer the continent and negate the sanctions- until one fighter pilot singlehandedly turned the tide of the war.
The third storyline is the one from AC5 and AC0 (which is a prelude to 5.) Long story short, Belka was a superpower, much like the USSR was IRL. Like the USSR, they fell into an economic depression. In an attempt to prevent complete collapse, they allowed several provinces to succeed and form independent countries. Despite this, however, their financial difficulties continued. Shortly thereafter, a wealth of subterranean natural resources was discovered in one of their former territories: Ustio. Ustio refused to rejoin Belka and, as a result, Belka invaded them, kicking off the Belkan War- essentially Strangereal's WWII. Pretty much every nation objected to the invasion and declared war on Belka, which was ultimately defeated- and far too weak to ever start another war. Too proud to accept defeat, however, elements of the Belkan government went underground, forming an organization known as "the Grey Men." This organization infiltrated both the Osean and Yuktobanian governments and started a war between them (think Carter from Tomorrow Never Dies, but successful.) A squadron of pilots discover the ruse, expose the Grey Men, and ultimately defeat them.
Ace Combat 7 tries to combine 4's and 5/0's timeline into one cohesive entity, where Belka again tries to destroy its rival from the shadows.

  • @evilbabai7083
    @evilbabai7083 Před rokem +2

By the way, most games of the series are not only playable on PC (with exceptions being exclusives as X360 AC6, discontinued PS3 live service AC:Infinity and iOS 3-6 ACXi), but also XBOX Series (even including AC6 via backward compatibility) and Android (except the games of X360/PS3 generation and higher), you just need a proper emulators, ROMs and BIOSes.
    My reccomendations are:
    Ace Combat 2
    Ace Combat 3
Ace Combat 4 (will reqire ISO patch and interlacing codes to defeat some graphical and performance issues)
    Ace Combat 5
    Ace Combat 0
Ace Combat X (HD modpacks are reccomended)
Those games are still a lot of fun, even AC2, which I felt having a better AI, than AC7. Maybe AC4 is the most boring of them all in terms of gameplay (like literally half of the game are score attack missions, sometimes six in a row), but the backstory story and the narrative is arguably the best, so I can't really say some games are superior to others as each has its own unique features.
