    Songwriting is one of the band's strenghts. Their songs are very well crafted.
    They released 4 songs in the last 4 weeks, check them out if you want to see how they evolved so far! "Manners" "Warning" "After Life".
    Stay safe.

    Band-Maid solos are always short and serve the song.
    When the guitarists were gathered around the drummer, they were making funny faces.
    Usually, after seeing this video, you will be directed to the live version of Freedom from earlier in the same show. The band are really having fun in that one and there is a proper drum solo.
    On the other hand, if you want to avoid poppy choruses you might want to check out the music video for Rinne.

    You'll find that many Band-Maid songs intentionally have a more pop-oriented chorus - especially those songs produced 1-4 years ago. In conjunction with their own label gradually allowing the band to write/record their own music, the members realized they were gathering a large and growing western fan base and their western tour dates were routinely sold out. Their sing-along/call-back choruses are a nod to their western fan base as the band's way of providing a method to bridge the language barrier and allow more audience interaction at their concerts

    I think a lot of folks go through a period at first where the "happiness" (or perceived "poppiness") of some Band-Maid music is hard to process. Something like "why don't I hate this part?" - but given 2 or 3 songs you just say hell, I can't help myself I love this music. Give in to the "happy-factor." Then you'll not want to do without it.

    • @bartyslattfast
      @bartyslattfast Před 3 lety +3

      Resistance is futile. The underlying message of many of Miku's lyrics is "you have one life, give it your all. Failure is a chance to learn and evolve" They are obviously happy to be doing what they do and rather than feign agony for "art" they let their joy shine through. They make music to make people happy and they succeed, greatly.

    Really enjoying your analysis. It is funny you mentioned the vocals...my challenge with metal is the angry male vocals but a lot of the instrumentation (like in your song clip) is good.
    If you want something even harder ( a little more metalish) from BM then MVs for Rinne, Different and Warning are good. Rinne is probably closer to true metal, Warning is just a fast hard driving intense rock song and Different is likely the most progressive of those 3 with a crazy sounding riff. All have high BPM. Other MVs that show different rock sides are Manners, Dice, Blooming, Bubble.
    Of the lives Onset is a great instrumental, Freedom is straightforward rock with an incredible breakdown, Real Existence is high energy rock with smoke and lasers, Cross isn't as hard but has interesting key changes. I really wish Moratorium Live was still on their channel. Another song on the hard rock/metal line with some nasty riffs.

    Really appreciate your reviews. Its really interesting to get a perspective of a smart and serious composer in your case. These ladies have been around a few years at top pro level, so there's things to learn from them and things you may do differently in your own compositions and seeing you process their techniques and original way of composing is interesting to watch.
    Last note. They are master transition writers, and no song I have heard (yet) ever stays they same very long at all. Excited to see where this takes you. :)

    They compose for the listener and always think of live performance when writing. IMHO their songs have a great balance, Solo parts intentionally Don't stick out but are part of the whole. Saiki, the lead singer almost never does runs or show off vocals. They pay attention to details and care about how the crowd reacts(watch Saiki's face). Even their harder songs sound "pretty" because of Saiki's tone and the great harmony, backing vocals of Miku. They may not be everyone's cup of tea but I think you will respect the detail and hard work they put into their music and their skill . In 4 years 4 excellent albums and 6 live online shows during covid. They generally play around 23 to 25 songs live and are relentless.

    The audio mix at this concert is not well received. Many people point out that the guitar level is especially low. Some people say that it might not be an onboard recording to convey the atmosphere of the venue more. What do you think? By the way, the 2018 live audio mix is perfect :)

      The guitar level is slightly quit, could be a little louder, but as a whole it has an amazing sound.
