If your linear is 800 watts or less and draws less than 15 amps, peak, there is absolutely no advantage in using a 240v outlet, unless you want to spend a grand or more on rewiring an average room which uses an average electrical load. Many operators using 1 to 1.5k amps are not satisfied unless they are S9 +20 and splattering all over the frequency. The rule is to use only enough power to establish and maintain a contact. As long as the person is Q5, there is no need to overdrive your amp. I rarely use more than 400 watts, even when propagation is not that good. Amps are not a replacement for a good antenna system, operator skills and technique, and procedures. For most of the operators using legal limit all the time, all it amount to is a penis measuring contest with other hams.
