I remember staying apart of a group, just to pretend you’re fine. So no one says-hey what happened to you last night? Were you talking to x? You’re dedicated to the whole -nothing to see here. That’s a big part of the 1st few mos or years. Just shock. Pretending it never happened and you’re fine. One day you realize how exhausting it is to look ok all the time and then you withdraw and probably start the homebody phase and I have zero desire to leave my bed and who would have to catch fire to get me out and motivated? My mom? You assume you would jump into action, but you feel numb. This is from one incident. I have never been to an FO. But I see so many doing what I did and one kid recognized what was going on b/c of a close relative and was the 1st to say to my face, I think you were…It was a friendly setting. I’ve never seen him again. We went to grad school for a year together and he disappeared into thin air from a state school in a state where people are a bit stationary. Was he an angel? Idk. But he helped for sure. And he lived about 20 mins from me when not at school and you always see people from that town. Never heard this friend’s name again. The other, I’ve changed my life to avoid. No more I’m fine. I think that’s how abused people keep relationships with their Ab. I can only imagine how the aftermath of a FO or roof incident would feel.
