  • Welcome to my first riding impressions video! Today I will be featuring the 2023 Kona Process 153 DL. This alloy offering from Kona Bikes has quite the character, and I went ahead and did a quick tour at Hulda Crooks to put it to the test. I will be doing a much more tech heavy review in the next week going over all of the numbers, but I thought it would be cool to bring you along and hear some of my impressions in real time.

    What Kona Says
    "The perfect Goldilocks bike between the Process 134 and Process X, the Process 153 hits all the sweet spots at a very budget-friendly price. The 160/153mm front and rear suspension gives you unwavering reliability on tricky descents while still climbing with ease. It’s spec’d with everything you need and nothing you don’t. Strong brakes, dependable suspension and grippy tires equal the perfect all-around package."

    I'm building up this frame from scratch (as a warranty replacement for my 134). Stoked to ride it! Going with Full Bomber coil setup (Z1 & CR), 170 front.

      That sounds awesome! Are you going to run a Cascade Link? I think paired with a coil in the rear, that would be the way I would take it.

      @@SingleTrackSurgeon Soon as they make one for 2021 and up - I’ll buy one! I think they’re current version only works with the 2018-2020 153s.

      That may be, I just looked at the increase in progression as the perfect recipe for a coil.

    Hello, mi looking ti buy full suspension bike. I’m 6 foot 2 in, thinking in Kona 153 DL or Giant reign 2. Most likely Spanish south mountains rocky trails. Which bike will suits better? If you can give some advice? Thank you

    • @SingleTrackSurgeon
      @SingleTrackSurgeon  Před 2 měsíci

      Those are both more affordable options, so I'm going to assume you are price conscious. The Kona is miles ahead with ride characteristics, but as I mentioned the rear stay length could be a problem for taller riders that want a stable ride. I would recommend looking at an entry level Norco aluminum option if you want a more stable predictable ride. I wouldn't recommend in any situation unless price is the only factor.

    Hi, nice video, im curious what size you ride and what height you are? Im 5'11 and have ordered the medium but im nervous itll be small 😅

      @SingleTrackSurgeon  Před 5 měsíci

      Definitely too small. You are smack dab in the middle of the Large size. I'm 6'0' and on the edge of L/XL.

    So is the rear rock shox super deluxe select+ worth keeping on the bike or is it a must to upgrade to the super deluxe ultimate?

    • @SingleTrackSurgeon
      @SingleTrackSurgeon  Před rokem

      That would really depend on how much fine tuning you want to be able to do. For the vast majority of people, the select+ is just fine. I will say the brand new Super Deluxe Ultimate is my current favorite rear shock slightly edging out the Float X2 due to performance and maintenance issues.

      @@SingleTrackSurgeon reason why I was asking I am upgrading from a entry lvl hardtail Marin bobcat trail 5 was deciding between 3 frames to build around 2 are full suspension 1 is a higher end incredible value hardtail between 2 the full suspension is ibis ripmo AF or Kona process 153 I want the Kona more but the hardtail option I am considering is the salsa timberjack

      I would say between 34-36 pounds with a decent build. But that is all going to depend on what components you add to it.

    The reach jumps quite a bit from one size to the next. As for Pinball Wizard, I don't care Who you are, I sure wouldn't want to descend if I was deaf, dumb, and blind. 😉

  • @Accu53Mation
    @Accu53Mation Před rokem

    It's great geometry for...girls and Snowflakes that just descend trails. Not so great as an all-rounder. And the price is a little high. Problem with CZcams reviewers is nothing above $12K, is considered expensive. No one in my hometown is willing to spend a few grand on a bicycle, hence...no bike shops. And that super slack tubing, is awkward for all-mountain/trail riding. The Marin Alpine trail & KTM prowler 1964, are better priced, and truly multi-role mountain bikes.

    • @SingleTrackSurgeon
      @SingleTrackSurgeon  Před rokem +2

      This is quite the interesting comment and there is a lot to unpack there. I would argue that when looking at the industry as a whole this is a more affordable option no? The debate about the industry as a whole pushing prices up is a completely different topic, and one that may be discussed in a future video. I would agree that the slack seat tube is not my cup of tea and does lend itself to be less of a comfortable climber, but the slack ht angle tames the descents without feeling like a large tandem going down hills.
      I'm not sure if you are referring to me as a snowflake that just likes to descend, but I put up a LOT of vert numbers while testing this bike without any shuttling or bike parks, and I thought it handled the workload just fine.
      For a bike that CAN do pedal days, bike park, or just fooling around in the neighborhood I would stick by my endorsement that this is a good all -rounder. But that is what is awesome about CZcams. You can disagree, and we can have that conversation.
      What bike in the industry today would you like to see me review?
