  • Hi There. Once again we're looking at problems with Ford keys. The vehicle is a Ford Transit Connect 2018 and as well as the key blade breaking on the remote key, there's problems with the basic keys too!
When the owner broke the remote key and got the spare key, it wouldn't start the van. When we looked at the key, it was clear that the key had opened up when used in the door lock and the transponder chip had fallen out.
We recommend either gluing the key shut after fixing the chip in place, or putting it into an aftermarket case as shown at the end of the video.
    Thanks for watching.

G'day mate, another tip if you didn't know. And you can tell customers this as well, up to you. But if you try to start the vehicle with a non chip car key, the car will go down into lock down mode. And it is a easy fix with the right diagnostic tool, but it cost too much to repair the BCM code inside the computer in the vehicle..
My company use those new spare keys too. They are 10 times stronger.

Hi Cameron, thanks for the comment. Have you seen this happen on a 2018 Connect?

@@TheCarKeyMan, we don't have that Ford Connect in Australia. We have many other Fords that do it. But it really depends on the year make of the vehicle, some of them go into lock down mode and lock the ignition barrel.
And try to not to glue too much on the car keys, if the glue sips through to the chip, that's it no more chip. 👍🏻

But many other cars go into lock down mode; Holden, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, BMW, Mercedes, etc..

I have ford transit connect 2008 model. The buttons on my key don't open or lock the van consistently, the key itself won't open my driver door but always opens the passenger door. When I try to start my van the immobiliser light flashes red and when I turn the key the engine will crank over the light stays flashing but it won't start. I have been told the van not starting is related to the key issue. Can you help me figure this out?

Hi Kimberley, there are a couple a things going on here.
Firstly, the buttons on the key will not prevent the van from starting, you can run around all day without a button key and it will usually start just fine.
Next, it's common for the drivers door lock to be worn, and I expect that your key is also worn. This is the reason your passenger door lock still works (for now) and the drivers is faulty I expect. You should get it looked at because eventually the passenger door lock will also fail.
As for starting the van, it sounds a bit odd. If a key is not coded, the van will not turn over at all. I suggest turning the ignition on, but not trying to start the van, just get the dash lights on. Have a look at the little red light, does it flash quickly, or just go out?
