A very interesting video,I have a great interesti in all this ,I'm a paranormal investagater,I did a few investigations at the cave area,I made clear communication with what I believe was Robin Hood,I communicated through varies devices,I then took photographs on my phone, and to my surprise n amazement, captured an image of a full bodied apparition standing on the wooden staircase which leads to the caves, could this be thee Robin Hood? I met the tour guide John,I showed him the photograph,he was quite amazed by it,he asked if I'd bring it to the Crags museum,I'm in the process of getting the photo taken from my phone and made into real photo, then I will go to museum with it as I'm sure it could be of interest to him.

How did they make the marks without falling down the hole?

Some of them likely did, but those ones wouldn't have made a mark.

The hole at the time was full of sediment which was only removed in the Victorian period by archaeologists looking for fossils. They used pick axes, shovels and sometimes dynamite!

I see graffiti on the inside of public toilet cubicles. Maybe people were doodling while taking a crap? Plausible, surely. These guys are assuming some iconographic pagan or early Christian markings but may be they translate as "Shazza woz ere".

Exactly right. These silly people are just hell bent on finding religious meaning all the time. While what we do know is that cave art is simply about hunting. Hundreds of thousands of hunting depictions and they find just a few that are less clear....and their imagination goes rampant saying "aha it's spiritual!!!!"

They were thought of as graffiti for a long time. But there are many carved symbols that are consistent with other kind of marks around the country. So they were likely religious of some kind.
