Cringe Culture

  • We are living a digital world, a world where everything we say and do is logged and kept for all of time. There is no room for mistakes, no forgiveness of error, because if you slip up, even one time and have a 'moment of cringe', then Internet will never forget; and remind you over and over again how that moment of 'cringe' where you were just trying to be funny or whatever, will define who you are - forever.

    As one who often fiddles with philosophy, I often find myself getting lost with my words as well. I'ts that point where we put our mind on auto pilot and let the words come to us. It creates the purest and most influential things we as the human race can create. Like this video, it is pure genius and a marvel to encounter. You are a valuable member of this community, Subbed

    Thank you so much for making this video!!! I've always struggled with a lot of social anxiety & insecurity, and because of all these stupid "weeaboo compilations" and "special snowflake compilations" I'm so afraid to put myself out there because I don't want to be judged. It seems inhumane to me that users would exploit socially awkward people for being a furry, a "weeaboo", a male virgin, etc

      Steph Levin just be yourself 100%!! 🤟 it’s hard not to care what others think but once you stop caring life is amazing. Express yourself without a care, what others say doesn’t matter if you’re happy.

    I loved the game undertale I went online to see artwork and even made some myself then I realised all the people saying cringe over everything

  • @uhhdudethatwouldbesalt672

    Saying pacific instead of specific is the real cringe here.
    I'm only taking the piss out of you, man. What a wonderful video. Maybe I needed these words for that extra push. Without weird people, where would the innovations in technology and art come from? If everyone were normal, the world would be soul-ripping and boring.

    Oh, that Sonic the Hedgehog movie? I thought it had a very different message, one referring to all Sonic games post-2010.
    Not about media in general.

    Wow... that was pure art. It isn't very often that i find someone like you... Everything you've said, everything you have yet to say. You say it because you know you can. Me and you are somewhat alike... i often struggle to find people that understand me, and over time i seem to lose my identity as a person. This video has reminded me to think. Everyone in this world is special, but some are blinded by what they think is truth and how things are. Steriotypes, Racists, Sexists... they may seem to us a big ceiling, slowly pushing down on us, but there's only one person that can push that ceiling back up: the one underneath it. Since i am still at school i still have alot to learn, but every day, i look at others and think "Do i belong here?". Now this may sound a bit stuck up but i feel as if i have matured much quicker than other students around me. I look at someone and see myself staring back at me, but from when i was younger. Before i felt matured. I completely understand what everything you said meant in this video, and hope that others see this as an actual person saying what they think, and not a "Great video that's really inspirational" as i've heared many people say in the past. When i do something wrong or incorrectly, i often beat myself up over it, but when i think about it more deeply, i realise that a person that goes through life with no mistakes, has not learnt anything. Unfortunately, many people get lost in other people's opinions and can't get back out. At school, I see many people who label, but no matter who says anything to them, they never seem to change. Alot of people seem to have grown up with things like sexism implanted in their brains so that it's something they think is right. Others make fun of people with disabilities and call them special. It makes me sick, but sometimes i find my self teetering over in that direction and i have to bring myself together. Alot of the time, people say things like "You're not popular" or "How many friends do you have?" and i feel bad for both of the people in the conversation. The one who says the sentence becauser they think that people only like tyou if you're popular and the person getting spoken to as it's a nuisance and can really have an effect on them mentally. The thing that sickens me the most though are people who judge others... Now, there are plenty of people out there who make fun of you for your opinions and there will never be a perfect world where there is no one like that. But what people don't understand is that there is a difference between disagreeing and making fun of. When people say things like "HA! You're Gay" you may say to them "What's wrong with that?" then they'll say something like "Oh... nothing i was uh.." and you catch them out. Sometimes i think people don't actually think what they say, but say it to put the other person down or to be popular. What people don't understand is that this is the world that we live in and it's never going to change completely. So what you really have to do is (and i'm not saying this in a mean way) suck it up and deal with it. Everyone is special and no one should be left out. I hope that people understand nothing will ever be perfect.
    Thankyou
    P.S if this comment didn't seem to have a main point... i totally agree... I just had alot of stuff i wanted to say and this is the best way i could do it ;)

      I am in a very similar predicament as you are. I am in middle school and I already see people doing illegal dirty things, and it surprises me. I am still that person who doesn't agree with others' actions. And, of course, my video game passion is part of this.
      Not wanting to be narrsasistic, Ill move on to my point. The important thing is to find something that you enjoy like Acting, Reading, and of course video games! Having a hobby or finding friends can be a great way to take your mind off of others that you dislike.When people around you are ridiculing you or you don't believe in their actions, make sure NEVER to take the road that they are on, because you will do better in life if you go your on way and be successful.

      Well, it's nice to know i'm not alone on this one. At the beginning of the school year, i started learning Japanese and as you can probably guess, i got aLOT of people calling me a Weaboo but i carried on and i think that;s what matters. If you ignore what others think, they will eventually come to accept that that is who you are and you're not their piece of clay to model. It's OK to be different because while at first people may come to think of you as strange, they will end up respecting you for having your own opinion and sticking with it.

    And yes I've been called "cringe" a lot because I am obsessed with Jackson five era MJ and you can imagine the kind of names that I've been called for that, a song I wrote was called cringe by "grown" women on facebook, and because I like anime and vocaloid. Even my newest special interest, which is tornadoes, has been called cringy, because of the intensity of my obsessions, which is normal for a person with asperger's. :( I feel like people care so much about race or accidentally misgendering someone or whatever, but when it comes to disabled people or vulnerable adults, nobody cares and we just get poked fun of and called cringy. :(

    This speaks volumes about very hated groups like furries; go to an AnthroCon or FurCon and you'd just see a bunch of nerdy high school or college kids playing D&D, talking about pop culture, or more creative hobbies like art and music. Yes there are sexual hotel room parties, but with consenting adults that try to make sure they don't harm others. Yet, there protrayed at pedophiles and zoophiles, even though going into popular furry media says how much furries hate those who practice pedophilia or bestiality. Every group of varying interests, characteristics, beliefs, and etc; have small groups of bad people. Yet, those who do not follow the standard of normalcy or sameness are treated like crap, as if punished for not being some toxic incel.
    Because people with atleast one hobby or interest, and a general life, with common human decency. Don't care about what someone does if it doesn't effect them.

  • @wolfandraven891
    @wolfandraven891 Před 4 lety +2

    I utterly despise cringe culture, because 99.99% of the times, the victims being mocked are disabled/autistic people such as myself, who have obsessive interests. It's not right. :( and the things being mocked are simply innocent and harmless things that bring them joy and aren't hurting anyone... Such as liking a show whose targeted audience is for kids, etc. Which I find to be more wholesome than watching stuff that has corrupted ideals, swearing, violence etc.

  • @robinbent2160
    @robinbent2160 Před 6 lety +17

    I only like cringe culture that is meant for the laughs and does not mean any harm towards people. But some people who make cringe compilations will tell other people to kill them selves, and to go and harass that person which they feature in their cringe comp, and that is not even close to ok. If you make a cringe compilation, don’t encourage harassment towards the people you feature, and at least say beforehand that the cringe compilation is a joke.

      Honestly while I think your message is great though, I'm not sure about how I feel about being one's self. Especially if who you are could be better or more productive in life. There's never an obligation to be anything you can't or don't want to, bht doesn't mean you can't strive for it?

    • @mememaster275

      Thanks for challenging me on this. I guess, my point in the video is that we are what we are, we can't change that. Our likes and hobbies are written in our genetic code and so we would never be interested in pursuing things we get no enjoyment out of doing. To strive for something we don't really want to do would only make sense if it results in some other benefit for the person doing it, or for those that person cares for. I believe our productivity naturally excels at the things we like, and is inhibited by things we don't.

    • @TheGamingPsychologist
      @TheGamingPsychologist  Před 8 lety +1

      It's not wrong to point out odd behaviour and certainly not to take notice of it, sometimes its very important to do so; however if what someone is doing is perfectly innocent and they are being publicly humilated for it, I think a line has been crossed somewhere. I think the internet has made it very easy for those that have perhaps made silly and harmless mistakes to be forever remembered through cringe compilations.

    I hate cringe culture too but we need to be careful to look at the bigger picture here and how cringe culture effects 1. More people than gamers and 2. Leads and bleeds into other types of bigotry like ableism.

    Crime culture is SO pervasive when privileged people encounter people speaking about their experiences with oppression. They diffuse the issue with laughter so they don’t have to face the idea of challenging their beliefs, behavior or society and to mute out any complaints of suffering.
