    And it's only 250 usd per year for such a workhorse. With new rendering engine, tons of new tools per year, working on M1+ chips. No brainer.

      $200 a year if you take the 2 years subscription to Indie, which is indeed really cheap for the amount of power you get!

    asknk im thinking of switching to houdini since I render in unreal engine. Currently im using Blender and Unreal and for static models its great but exporting alembic from blender is a painful process at times. Do you think blender will improve its alembic and universal scene descriptor support soon or if I should just make the switch now. Leaving cost of acquiring software out of it lol
    I have heard Houdini has a steep learning curve but im stubborn and will do it if it makes the process better

    • @jackphoenix2582
      @jackphoenix2582 Před 9 měsíci

      This is the issue USD is trying to solve. It’s less cumbersome/data expensive, scalable and has more geometry detail. Rather than exporting scenes as single objects and relying on vertex selections, you work in layers.

      Understanding the way it works is hard, but once you do understand, it becomes much easier than any other 3D software. I worked with 3dsmax for a couple of years and then with Maya for 5 years. Houdini was difficult at first, especially because back then we didn't really have a lot of good tutorials or resources, but once you start understanding it, learning new things is much easier than in any other software, because it's so open and it always makes sense. You'll find things exactly where you expect them to be, and that level of consistency is awesome and also really important for such a comprehensive software.

    • @CinemaZiggy
      @CinemaZiggy Před 10 měsíci +7

      I felt like this early on but once you get the youtube algorithm to start reflecting your interest in houdini it's insane how many smaller channels and specialized tutorials you'll find. Trust me you'll regret letting the learning curve stop you. It's truthfully only so steep because the software can do so much. Give it a month and watch how much you can do by the end!
