58:49 #Quah question #1 - In Episode 2239, you discussed the timing of Protein consumption. Do the same principles apply to water hydration? I typically hit my water intake goals by consuming half a gallon before noon. Is that adequate for hydration if I’m only drinking a few cups for the rest of the day?
1:03:54 #Quah question #2 - Is there much evidence for the benefits of the meat and fruit diet? Especially now considering the new research on max protein utilization. Have any of you guys ever tried it?
1:08:12 #Quah question #3 - For people just getting started like myself, what makes MAPS so effective? How do we understand when to change it up? I’d like to know the science of why it works.
1:15:22 #Quah question #4 - What's your guy's opinion on high-intensity training like how Mike Mentzer preached and then how Dorian Yates perfected it?

Listening and watching Mindpump was a game-changer for me. Every morning I have the podcast on and on my lunch break. Grateful for the impact it had on my journey to a healthier and happier self! I can’t wait till one day I can dive into your map programs

@@MindPumpShow holy crap! Thank you so much! Sounds good!!! 😎💪
I neglected strength training for so many years and started up again 4 months ago. Best decision I've made 👌
Me to. 😊
I totally agree with Sal on the boutique gyms. I go to a very small gym where the owner is the trainer. I can't miss or I will be in trouble. I have to make it up on another off day. I can't slack off. I also look forward to seeing all my fellow members who are now friends. We not only kick ass, we have a great time together. Not to mention cheering each other on while attempting our challenging lifts. When I went to a box gym, I skipped a lot. My small gym keeps me accountable, but also motivated.
My wife is pregnant and your advice along with your programming has been fantastic! This is baby number two and I can see how much stronger she is already.
A chiseled, sculpted body is definitely my goal, and I know I need to lift heavier weights. Thank you for all the excellent advice and inspiration! 💙
Sal is not wrong. Strength training is superipr, and, if you program cardio correctly, it can be a great supplement to your strength training
Agreed. I do both ❤ I program both in.
Incline walking has been great for me since its very easy on the body but keeps me in shape, thereby making me able to push my sets harder especially on compound movements like squats and hip hinges
They should be promoting both i can’t understand why they don’t do both !
@@nicholasingratta423 They have talked many times about the benefits of cardio. They also talk about how many people do it improperly. Dig a little deeper
@@nicholasingratta423Agreed. Sometimes they almost seem anti cardio. For general health and well being cardio is also very important even if it might not be as impactful on aesthetics and muscularity. Also having good cardiovascular endurance improves strength training. Your lifts will suffer if you’re getting winded jfrom picking up the dumbbell. Plus it’s nice to be able to walk up stairs and hills without keeling over.
I'm never going to get tired of this topic!!! Love it!!! Such a great episode to share and educate! ❤
You guys are the BEST! I just recently passed my NASM exam, and am starting to personal train, building my portfolio and such. You guys have truly inspired and taught me to stand out from the rest; being knowledgeable, doing things the RIGHT way, and providing the best advice to my future clients thanks to yall. You guys are hilarious, love listening to the podcast first thing in the morning. Thank YOU!!!
Omg the opening of today’s show made me laugh so much! You guys are hilarious, love you!
I’m 45 and I feel better than I did at 35. This channel is really helpful. I listen to you while I’m working out and it makes the workouts seem shorter. Today, I watched one where you showed the video with people responding to the laws outlawing drunk driving. I almost fell off the treadmill. (In was at a 13 incline). Lol
I was always fed the media messages that weights were for guys who wanted to be buff, athletes and body builders. I got the same messages from dietitians and doctors that cardio was best for overall health and weight loss. Pilates became a thing about 15 years ago and I like it. I was a dancer which was great for strength training, flexibility, stamina and mental health. But, it was hard on my joints and I had two hip replacements by age 42.
I’m getting into resistance training and have significantly decreased the time I spend doing hiking, stairs and cycling. I definitely feel stronger, more in control and am more motivated because I see results. Protein has been important for me and I didn’t realize I wasn’t eating enough. Was probably why I couldn’t gain muscle and couldn’t burn fat even when doing 50 min on the stair climber. My metabolism was so slow. I was eating 1500 calories and exercising 5 days a week and not losing weight. So frustrating! I thought B I had hypothyroidism but doctors wouldn’t give me a diagnosis or recommend any solutions to my problems. You all deserve Medical degrees more than most of the doctors out here who do no research at all and follow old medicine and studies.
I always am looking forward to the knowledge and info as I am in my weight loss journey. Thanks for all you do!
Love this content today per usual! Yall are really helping us 50 plus ladies❤ thx sooo much guys!
I’ve recently got back into strength training again and it is definitely a game changer. I’ve also been learning so much from your channel. Thank you so much!
Thanks so much for all the info. Listening to all of you every day promoting fitness helps keep me motivated to do the work. Please keep up the hard work. You are helping so many of us every day!
I worship this great man Sal🙏🏻😭
Hehe. One of the few times i see sal and adam disagreeing on something so passionately about how boutique gyms might or might not help motivate you more. The beauty is seeing you guys moving on like a breeze... Always loved your content. Thank you for spreading accurate information and long podcasts videos so we can binge on. Love you guys! (;
I haven't listened to the show in a while, but I've learned SO MUCH here. Just wanted to say thank you. I'm doing great with muscle building now, and I can't tell you how valuable this show has been to me.
I’ve really enjoyed the knowledge as well as banter between you guys… continued success 💪🏽
For what it’s worth, I am currently at a boutique gym and this is the most consistent I’ve been strength training and I love it! Gotta agree with sal on this point
In the past year, I've come to realize the importance of strength training. I'm 57 and I realize how important strength training is as I age.
Wish I had done more strength training earlier in my life, but I'm on it now. Been doing it consistently for over a year, and now on MAPS 40+ 3rd week.
I do cardio & strength training. I feel & look the best I've looked in a long time & I'm almost 40.🙂
You guys give me such motivation to deal with people
You guys are amazing! I’ve completely changed how I train and live because of you.
I tried to start maps anabolic in a big corporate gym and it gave me too much anxiety. There were too many people and too much space to cover to find the equipment needed. I joined a small gym by my house and I've been consistent and I feel confident when working on my technique! It definitely made a difference for me 😊
I live and breath Mind Pump. I can’t say anything but great things about what Sal , Adam and Justin preach. These guys are the best when it comes to Health& Fitness 3 gems here. Keep up the great content you guys changed my life.
Need more coverage on these bunkers 👁️
Appreciate all the amazing content it’s really helped me shift my mindset on how I approach my training
I love it that Jesse from ATHLEAN-X made it on to the opening reel while sal was babbling on... 😅
Absolutely love the edit at 57:14
I have to agree with Saul, my small gym has won my heart. I remember having a membership with a big gym, Gold Gym back in the day. I would sit in the parking lot every time for about 30 mins every time, eventually I would stop going. It’s so big so many people going in and out you don’t form those cozy relationships. Forward to today, I’m in a small little gym, and I love it. I’ve meet the sweets people here. Love walking in and seeing the same people over and over. We hold ourselves accountable when we don’t show up. We ask each other questions, they help me when needed. It’s over all a better experience in my humble opinion ❤
Watch you guys every morning during my walk. Learning so much every day.
I’m a 7 figure earner with an MLM. We sell actual products people love. We do NOT make the majority of our money from new people. We make the most on a % of actual sales on products and helping others sell. It’s a very very ETHICAL way to get paid because we only get paid on sales. Most MLMs are on the up and up as it is a HIGHLY regulated industry. In good mlm structures you have the ability to make more than the people who enrolled you. You are EXACTLY RIGHT about the % of people who will make it. Most people don’t treat it like a business. PS. LOVE mind pump! You guys have changed my fitness LIFE!!
Thanks for the shout out (Oklahoma 50:50)! There’s a handful more than 2 people here and fun fact we have a very large air-force base that we’re told ranks pretty high on target lists (bombing). Also if you were to build a bunker here you might have options to choose from, but we call them storm shelters.. because tornados… but I digress. Love the show and the content! Thank you for caring for people more than profit in helping people live healthier lives!
HAHAHAHAHA! Putting the picture of Jeff and Jesse in the beginning is to funny. Keep up the good work guys.
What a great title and can’t wait to listen 😊
Excited and routing for 3-day training, calendar blocked.❤️Anticipating crazy reveals 😍
Could you please do an episode on working out with degenerative spondylolisthesis and the amazing benifits that strength training has on holding up the spine❤️🙏
Love y’alls content. Primary job is a police officer but personal train several people on the side and it’s made me so much better as a trainer
Thank you guys for always surprising me with different view points and topics :-)
LVAC North in NLV baby 💪🏻 My big box gym, it does the job.
Appreciate you guys! Great info
Love this episode. Also lifting heavy has built stamina for me for sure. My HR elevates tremendously when lifting heavy
As someone who loves to lift and also do steady state cardio, I can honestly say building more muscle has allowed me to eat way more. I still do daily cardio for heart health but resistance training has definitely made the most noticeable transformation
I love to lift as well. On the flip side doing cardio has improved my weight training.
Same here, I recover faster between hard sets now. It's pretty sweet@@tomw485
Thankyou for this podcast
First. Love this show. On the journey rn reverse dieting. Thanks yall for the amazing content always
I workout at Planet Fitness. I'm 6'4" 215lbs and for $10 / month I look better than 99% of the people on earth. It's not about the gym. It's about putting in the work. If you want to build a gym cummunity be consistent about the times/days you go and you will see the same faces. Try holding a conversation with someone instead of staring at your phone.
💯!
Really I thought you were supposed to talk to people at the gym
Another great episode. Thank you!
Great content as always
awesome stuff!
I just love you guys! Never heard of map before Resistance Revolution. Now I never miss!
I need to start working on my strength! Your program seems awesome to achieve my goals
💯💪🏼 your right! I hit the spot 🏋️♀️
Always a good time to buy! Lol 😂 Thanks guys!
When I started my journey I was so out of shape I needed the cardio to increase my stamina just to finish a lifting session. I did cardio MWF, and lifted Tu,Th,Sa. 6 months in, down 85lbs I adjusted to 4 days lifting and 2 days of cardio.
Sal is right. I have 3 gym memberships and spend most of time at the smallest gym. I am retired and love working out with a small fitness community.
I’m disappointed in you guys at 8:54 the greatest running movie was Forrest Gump 😂😂😂
😂
lol the MLM bit was hilarious guys😂
Love the MP gang , i agree with Adam on the Small Gym , I recon most people especially new fitness goers , your not going to want to be in a small environment where you stand out , in the big space you can fade into the background and not have PTs in your face , Great episode guys
Great podcast. I love the advice. Very motivational ❤.
I workout at a small private gym in a country club and I love seeing my people, I call them my workout buddies. We wave at each other and wish each other well and it absolutely adds to my gym experience. We also have a personal trainer that works with clients that are members there. My gym is small but we have a free weight rack with dumbbells that go up to 75 lbs, a smith machine, various weight lifting machines, TRX straps and a few cardio machines. I've had to get creative with some things but for the most part I have all that I need and it's always quiet in the gym. The most people i've seen at once was maybe 15? Peak hours aren't overwhelming there because it's private.
In the UK, anything advertised on TV with regards to fitness is always people running. It heavily insinuates this is the primary method for fitness goals and a subsequent lack of knowledge (unless you go directly looking for it by coming here!) for strength training. I've been on the side lines for quite some time due to 2 big injuries over the past 10 years, so being quite heavy I'm thankful for weight training and being able to adapt around my structural weaknesses. Keep the info coming!
You guys are machines!!
I agree with Sal on the smaller gyms. Community is a motivator.
I have that body that yall are talking about in the earlier part of talk. Huggable but also hard. 😂
Hey Guys, I love your channel and have been binge watching lately. Always have the podcast on spotify while I cook. Even got my Fiancé to start watching. About a year ago I was 266lbs at 5'5. I got all the way down to about 155, just walking and eating less. When my boyfriend and I moved in together, I gained a few happy pounds. I started weight training because I wanted to firm up, and do less with more results. Im now 180 and fit smaller clothes than I did at 155. I know I know I should be happy, but as a female I really do want to be smaller and its hard not to still feel like a "big girl" especially when the scale has gone up. I'm short, I'm supposed to weigh less. I also noticed that since weight lifting I AM STARVING, even tho I am getting 130gs of protein. About 20g of that is coming from muscle milk. The only thing that keeps me from getting in my head too much, is I keep a measuring tape in the bathroom. I check almost daily to visibly see my waist getting smaller and ignore the scale. The cellulite on my legs/booty is so much better to the point I don't mind wearing shorts now. Any tips? how much of my weight could be water or inflammation? Should I go back to walking until I reach my goal weight and then slowly start lifting again? Thank you in advance and happy 2024. I hope we all reach our goals this year and next.
Love the content! 💪👹
Been lifting for years now, I have so many girlfriends that I’ve pushed into lifting. The fear of lifting is real, but I can definitely see it changing…. Especially in the younger generations.
Wow Doug impressed me today 😍😍
Imagine you build a bunker and end up like "Blast from the Past"! 😂😂😂
I love when Justin speaks
I knew strenght training is good for bones density, but got info about skin elasticity etc. from your podcast - those are suprising benefits!
I really enjoy your videos. Nice team❤ Hello from France.
😂😂”out of 100s of those fuckers only 10 is gonna make it😂”. Adam had me cracking up at the gym!!
love PBD! Amazing person
The spray bottle gif when they were laughing about Sal's sister not watching the show took me out😂😂😂😂
Love the video
“I wanna be huggable but also hard” 😂
I'm on the struggle bus at the box gym. I am one of those females who hits the weights like it's my job, on the daily. Been a 24 Hour member since '98, but it's gotten so busy, so overpriced, so DIRTY (they dont even have a cleaning staff or towel service anymore), and worst, I can barely get on any equipment no matter the time of day - it's like it's always rush hour, even at like 11am on a Tuesday. Unfortunately too with social media, lots of the crowds are young women with lets say, extreeeeeemely revealing attire (we all know this new fad but to each her own and all), but they're doing lots of posing and instagram reels, taking up space on the weights.... but in the way of the peeps who are there to DO THE WORK. So I think I might be on my way to a desolate Planet Fitness way out in the suburbs just so I can get my f'in workout in!
ONE OF MY FAV TALK SHOWS
Question.
I get the method of train to a degree. I workout 3 times a wk full body. Workouts go for about 8-12 reps for 2 sets for each targeted area. I focus on being in the gym 45mins- 1hr.
In terms of rest days is it wise to do an ev other day?
Also i do intermittent fasting 16/8 but to maintain mass iv been fasting only on rest days.. what are your thoughts to efficient gain and maintain muscle..
This past summer was the only summer in about 10 years I cut back significantly on cardio. I focused primarily on strength training: squats, deadlifts, weighted dips, bench, and overhead presses. The results: I squatted 335 lbs for 10 reps at 5'8" and 171 lbs (no abs, a lot more belly jelly than I have been used to when I was sprinting and jump-roping consistently). Recently, after getting tired of looking at my growing gut with no abs, I decided to combine cardio with my strength training sessions. I focused on burning half of my calories with cardio and the other half through the timing of my meals and intermittent fasting (not eating for about three hours, max, after a workout and no food for 16 hours after my last meal from the prior evening). I look and feel so much better. Also, I haven't noticed any loss of strength. In fact, my old PR for 315 lbs (on squats) for reps was 12. I recently did it for 13 reps and, if the chiropractor can fix the chronic issue I have been experiencing with a rotated pelvis, causing a left leg length discrepancy (longer than my right), I would be able to rep out 315 lbs for 15. So, no strength loss for me. I've increased my protein intake a little to compensate for the calorie deficit I'm in each day. I don't think cardio is a bad thing for muscle and strength gains as long as it is done properly and not abused. Look at sprinters. They are jacked.
That's really good. Sounds like you found a good routine for your body. Great job!
16:00 The solution here, even if it makes things even more difficult and gymgoers probably less likely to reach their goals is to sign people up on memberships for certain blocks of time. That way for any given hour there's never a chance of overloading capacity.
Such a sad, cynical topic when it comes to the gym formula and the need for people to lose in order for the gym to gain. Great episode as usual though.
I agree w/ that. I observed the trainers at the gym, not correcting the form of their clients.
1:07:45 went from don't eat what's poisonous yet the standard American diet is riddled with poisons
The bunker business is BOOMING! 😅
First off, Adam that is a dope ass shirt. I've been looking for those type of shirts to get away from gym attention. Sal, you made a great point about what type of Gyms people prefer. I ditched the public gyms and I find more of a better environment in the smaller private/serious gyms. Sometimes I talk sometimes I don't and in those environments that is the understood factor and this coming from an advanced lifter and trainer. For example, If I call someone the p word for not getting in another rep in a smaller private gym, he would laugh, challenge me and get my number for future workouts or even bouncing ideas(true story) in a public gym I would immediately be kicked out lol.
I feel EOS has been a great bog box gym. All their locations are packed and their trainers are always on the floor walking around. My favorite gym by far
Would love to hear your thoughts on how to train with Chondromalacia patellae. I am able to deadlift and hip thrust- but it’s hard to squat heavy 😢
Yasss Adam I agree!!
You guys must do a lot more strength training than cardio, because that was a strong argument! 💪 😂
I’d still listen to you guys siting your own studies and articles.
I received an email a couple days ago that the fitness coach training was canceled but Sal you just mentioned it and to sign up. Is it still scheduled??
Got to agree with sal. My main gym is a sml box gym (in a warehouse. No air con in the summer and no heating during winter). My local is a commercial gym. The sml box feels like home. You know everyone. Everyone there is at the very least going to give you a wave or a 'hey'. Super friendly and none judgemental. They're even happy to come over and spot you if needed and tell you when they can see you've made progress. I personally don't like the. Commercial gym environment in comparison. I used to have to drag myself there and I was that person who payed them membership for over a year and only go twice. The small box gym I had the urge to go straight after landing back from a vacation 😅
So in terms of workout maniac culture, remember the movie Flashdance from the mid 80’s? They literally had a scene with Jennifer Beals working out like a maniac to the song titled “She’s a Maniac.” Hilarious! Influenced a lot of people to work out like a crazy person. Don’t even get me started on the leg warmers 😂
Yes, we’re in the NY resolution phase of the year…it drops off right at St Valentine’s Day, like clockwork
Is it okay to lift weights 2 days in a row? So today Ive done full body concentrating on abs, squats to target quads, and then rdls for the glutes. Tomorrow I would like to do full body, but mainly arms and hamstrings. I have a good schedule for lifting, but this week my schedule has been thrown off.
Studies show that watching Rocky once a year will improve both strength and cardio
Weight training it’s a good given gift to humans. I’ve succeeded in a Planet Fitness paying 10 bucks month. Lost 20 pounds just by following a healthy balance diet, weight training and walking 3 times a week reaching 10,000 steps each time. It’s determination and consistency.
So funny I even know that kneeling is better then hands over head but it’s ingrained in me all the way back from high school football in 2007-2009 and I still do it out of habit and instincts.
