    Oh no, we've just booked the full board extra plus meal plan as I was unaware you could top up to character dinning and thought we'd have to pay for the full amount on top. We are planning to do mainly table service/buffets as we are taking our daughter (who will be 2 weeks under 3 years old) so we don't have to pay for a meal plan for her and she will be sharing our food. I hope we can still get our money's worth but as you say on a plus side at least we know its all paid for and planned before we arrive. Thanks for info!

    This was really good. We’re going in July and have been considering half board. You’ve explained everything very clearly. Thank you. I’ve already booked and paid for character dining but I suppose this will be taken into consideration if I add on the plan before we go

    We went full plan....Arrived about 4pm on the first day at the hotel. Went straight to the park as we didnt want to miss out on any rides before they closed. Nowhere to eat AT ALL anywhere in the park on the meal plan at 6pm even tho the park stated it closed at 8:30. One "takeaway" place which charged, and didnt let anyone sit down inside which was really annoying. The breakfast and dinners at cheyenne were superb tho

      Glad you enjoyed Cheyenne its a really good themed hotel and I really like Chuck Wagon, and the cast members in the saloon are normally entertaining too. If you are booking the meal plan and you want to eat at the table service inside the park advance reservations are essential. You need to make sure you have these booked at least 2 months in advance as this is when they are open to general reservations to all guests. Most of the table service and buffet restaurants inside the parks are open at lunchtime and a few have limited evening openings. Available evening options in the park are mainly quick service so as we said in the video you will lose out on using the meal plan at these locations. There's generally more choice in the hotel restaurants on an evening. Remember you can use the meal plan at any of the hotel restaurants, not just the in the hotel you are staying at.

    We always go half-board. Even then it's only worth it if you can get bookings in the restaurants, which sometimes isn't possible.
    It's not worth doing more as we aren't always hungry together during the day for lunch.
    The one with the snacks included I wouldn't bother with as we only ever buy a couple between us.
    Thanks you for doing this as I didn't realise we could hold and use credits on another day. I always thought they had to be used on that day

      Thanks for watching the video. As you said I would generally always recommend half board as it is a good balance between giving good value and some flexibility with plans. You are right the extra plus is simply not good value for money and it is cheaper to just buy the snacks when/if you want them. For my last-minute trips, I do keep checking table reservations on the app. People do cancel and you can get lucky, I have managed to pick up popular restaurant reservations like Bistrot Chez Remy and Walts on the day.

    We've gone for the extra as I have teenagers that are always hungry. Will let you know how we get on!

    Tim, I appreciate your thorough explanation. Assuming I elect the half board plan, if I eat at Bistrot Chez Remy or Captain Jacks, do I order from the same prix fix menu that a regular guest without the meal plan orders from? Just wanting clarification if the meal options are different using the meal plan vs not. Thank you

    • @guidetothemagicbytim
      @guidetothemagicbytim  Před rokem +1

      Yes, that's right, all the table service (TS) restaurants have a three-course prix fixe menu which you can choose from. This is the same if you are paying out of pocket or using a meal plan credit. A lot of TS restaurants now only offer the prix fixe menu (like Walts and Chez Remy). They have generally moved to this model as menus have been updated and I would say it has helped significantly with the quality of the meals. Some TS restaurants also have a la carte options (like Captain Jack). In theory, you can eat from the a la carte menu and they will deduct the value of your meal plan voucher but my advice would be to stick to the prix fixe options as you are likely to pay quite a lot more with the a la cart menu, but speak with your server if you need any help.

    Thank you for this, been trying to work out if a meal plan is worth it. We do like the buffet breakfast and like to have a buffet or table service dinner or lunch so half board plus looks like it might work for us. One question - the Disneyland website talks about paying extra if your meal costs more than the value of the voucher, but doesn't say what the value of the voucher is. Would you only have to pay extra if you got a second drink or ordered a side dish or did character dining? But the starter main dessert from the fixed menu and one drink would never result in an extra charge?

    • @timpotter3538
      @timpotter3538 Před rokem +1

      So essentially the value of the meal credit is one buffet & soft drink or one prix fixe menu and soft drink in a table service restaurant. You would need to pay for any additional drinks or any additional a la carte items. Some of the table service restaurants also have a la carte menus but my advice would be to avoid these and stick to items on the prix fix menus which are included in the meal plan. The upgrade cost of the character dining depends on the restaurant/experience and the meal plan you have.

    Can you use with the half board plus, the voucher
    for dinner and go to character dining and pay
    the difference? Or is not possible?

    • @guidetothemagicbytim
      @guidetothemagicbytim  Před rokem +1

      You can't/ don't need to book breakfast at your hotel. You just line up and they are normally quick at getting you seated each morning.
