Absolutely excellent video. Really helped me with servicing my winches at the mast. It definitely kept the panic of pieces down to a minimum. Thanks a million ☺️

Nice video. One tip: Place some beach towels all around the winch when working on them to keep any parts which may fall from "bouncing " overboard. Another trick I have seen is to get a bucket and cut a hole in the bottom the diameter of the winch. The sit the bucket down over the winch while working on it. Any parts yo mishandle will stay within the bucket. lose

I sometimes use a shallow box. Will do so on my next video which is a simple winch.

Great overview of the overhaul! I have the same model on my 89 Mirage 32.

My boat guru recommends mineral spirits to clean the winches. Acetone may attack the plastic parts..

Yes, that is my preference too! I used the alternative. Thanks for watching.

Can the tailer be located around the circle in any of four places or is there only one place it goes when reassembling? I mounted my winch and the tailer isn't pointed where I want it to be.

Thanks for posting this. I will use this as an excellent guide when I tackle the exact same winch on our 1985 Catalina 36 this weekend. Would it be possible to post the link for the exploded parts diagram? Cheers Kevin H

Can a non-self tailing winch that is just like your self-tailing be upgraded to self-tailing easily and is there a kit (Lewmar 14 or Lewmar 16)?

No I don't think one can "upgrade" but I'm not the expert so not sure!
