It's neat to see these in action. Particularly when they have a spotter. A king air flying Balls out at tree top level, followed a couple seconds later by a DC10 tanker flying about as slow as it can without crashing....pretty cool to see.
Great video. Last month, here in Southern California, we had one of the largest brush fires in our local history. Fortunately, we had this Water Bomber present and I was able to see it in action for myself. I've never seen such a large aircraft maneuver the way the pilots did with this beast. Amazing!
When they're dropping water or phos-chek, they're not flying anywhere remotely high enough for that to happen. The kind of decompression you're thinking of happens around 20,000 to 30,000 feet up.
When your house and all your possessions are about to go up in smoke. You could give a shit wether it’s a DC-10, 747, MD-80, 737 or P-3 Orion dropping phos chek. You would just be glad someone was dropping anything period, no matter how much it is..
This comment didn't age well. The 747 Global Supertanker was retired last 2021. The company went under, and the 747 was sold to be converted into a freighter.

Just saw this craft do a drop in lake county CA today at the Rocky fire. Absolutely stunning sight. I was tearing up.
I love the DC-10. It’s a nice aircraft.
Many people make fun of it, but I actually fell sympathetic for it. It really was a great plane and taught us what we can do in aviation.
