Her BEHAVIOR wasn't rewarded, Natalie. Her WORK and TALENT was rewarded. As the Grammy's are not awards based on the artists' conduct but their body of work, popularity, and how successful and how well received their music is. I really didn't understand Natalie's beef with Amy winning the Grammy's. It wasn't like Amy was going around fucking up shit for the hell of it. She was an addict, which is a disease. Amy Winehouse was the BEST part of that years Grammy's and I'm super glad she got the love & recognition she *deserved*! RIP Amy ~

+Black3y3dAng3L I agree with all you wrote, Amy was the highlight of the evening, and as you commented, it was so nice to see all the love she was receiving when she gave her acceptance speech; they didn't care if she was an addict, they loved her for who she was and were so happy for her success!

AS L Thanks :) Just saying, what with the current circumstances I kind of feel bad about coming down on Natalie Cole. Seems that drugs (may've) been the cause of both of these's artists' untimely death.

She was rewarded for refusing to seek help and over come her demons-and found away to let people enjoy her struggle through song. Im with Natalie on this one. I understand where Natalie Cole is coming from. May she continue to rest in peace. As far as Amy's song, she's not the first to write a song about refusing rehab or going to the doctor and finding solace in music or solace in the person they love, check out Ray Charles, "I Don't Need No Doctor" Second, the song was originally intended to be a sad blue-sy number, it was Ronson who decided to give it an upbeat sound to it. Third, the song was written when she was 22 and before she tried hard drugs. Third, Amy wasn't able to attend the awards ceremony because of the drug issue, and you have other artists talking about her when she wasn't there, I wonder if they would have said the same thing if she were present at the awards ceremony. She did steal the show from a satellite performance of all things, that girl had presence. Fourth, there was way more to Amy than just that novelty song. The fact that it was her biggest hit says more about us as a society than it does about her. Sadly, after these grammy wins, people began to publicly criticize her, not just everyday people, but celebrities and even the UN stated that Amy was a bad example for perpetuating the use of drugs, smh we all know who are the ones that benefif the most from drugs, be it legal or illegal. You guys were simply trying to use her as a scapegoat. And to everyone who ridiculed her just to make yourselves feel better about yourselves, shame on you. Go enjoy your boring Adele, who out of coincidence decides to release an album the same year that Amy's documentary came out smh. Or artists who need 5-10 songwriters for a song or celebrities who are more concern with having a strong social media following because their talent can't speak for themselves. And to the Kardashians and anyone trying to be a model by posting selfies on instagram, smh look up Naomi Campbell or Cindy Crawford, those are models. Rant over.

She wasn't "slamming" anybody. She was worried for Amy. Natalie Cole used to be a hardcore addict so she spoke from experience. And she wasn't saying Amy didn't deserve to be recognized for her music. Of course Winehouse was talented. Natalie was saying EVERYTHING should be put on hold until this problem is solved. Otherwise the consequences could be deadly. Unfortunately she was right. As for Natalie Cole, lots of talented artists don't write their own music. People can be gifted in a variety of ways like interpreting and delivering great material.

      - She never wrote a line of the lyrics
      - She got a start only because of the fame of her father because there were. and are, much better female singer than her
      - The LEGEND Tony Bennett totally ignored her for his famous Duets album, but Gaga and Amy were there...
And the best... Tony Bennett wanted to invite a singer for his birthday show. Cole or Winehouse? Besides that, Amy's talent is a gazillions years away from Cole's. That comes from Bennett himself who said Amy's talent was in the same category as Fitzgerald and Holiday. And if someone knows what he's talking about when it comes to Jazz, that's Tony Bennett...

I don't completely disagree. My point is only that she was speaking from experience, and unfortunately, she was right. I don't think she was dissing Amy. She just knew(from experience) what a deadly path Winehouse was on, and would have preferred to see her receive help instead of Grammys.
That being said, major awards like the Grammys, Oscars, etc, are also very political. Don't count on seeing Mel Gibson accept another Oscar. Not because of his acting career, but because of his lifestyle.

Really pathetic they would not let Amy travel to the States for something so frivolous, and petty.

I have to admit I was surprised that Natalie spoke like that, but then I thought, Natalie has been through it and she knows that she was recognized and all it did was give her more money to snort, shoot or blow. I just wish she worded it differently but I think her intent is for Amy's good. I was hoping that Amy would be TOTALLY sober cause I love her to death, but evidently she had a little something intoxicating, lol. But she is the best, no doubt, earned every one she got. PERIOD.

I don't think she's making fun of it, she's telling her experience, and at the time she wasn't a drug addict, she was a heavy drinker. And she went on to resent how popular that song was because of the fact that she did eventually go to rehab a few times. I'm sober and went to rehab and I in no way feel like she's taunting me and what I did. It's just a situation she went through and as she put it "I got a silly song out of it so whatever". It says more about our society that that song was her greatest hit, honestly.
And Anton, I fully agree with you. She was a massive, kind hearted talent and even in her worst times she was amazing. And shit, at least she was IN REHAB when she attended the Grammys. If anything Natalie should have been happy about that, having been in the struggle before.

Yes, as soon as I saw on the internet page before I get to my email, that she had passed, I felt bad, not because of what I had revealed about my feelings about the Amy incident, just I used to be a big fan, and obviously she touched my life in several ways as it turned out. I never hated her, just what she did...It's sad no matter what, as several people have said, now they're both gone.
The last time I saw her on TV, she was on an episode of The Real Housewives of New York, and she looked horrible, skinny as a rail, sagging skin around her neck, just ill. She sang the same as always, but I could tell something was wrong...She's in my prayers, and I have a feeling she taught me something, can't put my finger on it now, but she was, since I was a teen in my life so to speak...I even copied her dance moves lol

Natalie was absolutely correct. Amy, who was a brilliant talent, was in terrible shape and one of her biggest hits was a song about not needing rehab. It almost seems as if Amy's fans enjoyed her misery and pain. Natalie was clearly someone aware of the damages of drug addiction and an industry (and far too many fans) who cared more about the business and not the person.

I would have heckled that beehive drug user too if I was there - she did not learn her lesson that is why she died in her flat. She was always drunk or on drugs on stage. She and Whitney were a damn joke and both passed from DRUG USE!

Absolutely shameful conduct by Natalie Cole. You can see what drugs did to her judgement and decision-making abilities. Mind you, if it hadn't been for the great Nat King Cole she wouldn't have had a career in the first place. As for the comment "You don't play that way", well, probably every great artist that ever lived used drugs -- ONGOINGLY, FOR YEARS. In fact there are enough artists currently using drugs to have ensured much more "even-handed" media coverage than took place here.

The musical prizes must be contaminated either by any condition foreign to the artistic fact, (age or liffestyle), ONLY THE MUSICAL QUALITY. Herbie Hancock has been rewarded by this wrong criterion: He received a Grammy for an album that was not the best of the nominated ones, only because Academy forgot him for 50 years.

I'm really sorry Mykalroze, but you cannot compare the two artist's works. They are completely different genres and Amy is most original, Kanye, although good at what he does, is not unique as he is rapping which thousands do today. Amy created a sound all of her own. Bringing back a type of music that most would think not hip at all. She does deserve it. It's easy to sit on the sidelines and critique. See it's for me to critique your comments but what that does it really mean to you?

Please, do you guys really think Natalie Cole is jealous of Amy Winehouse. Come on...Get REAL! Cole is almost 60...she doesn't want anything Winehouse has.
