      I think that was the general consensus among fans at the start. Kid was playing in a league you don't get a lot of exposure to, so it was a bit more difficult to gauge the type of player they got, while Zegras, Caufield, Cozens, etc. were still on the board. If his first season in Grand Rapids didn't dispel that doubt, he's been blowing every expectation you can think of out of the water in the SHL this season.

      The biggest thing is usually Defenseman have to learn to defend properly... Which is ironic because they are defensemen... But scouts and draft "experts" usually say the young defenders are good offensively but lack defensive game... But Seider is very composed and calm and collected and is very good defensively... I love Cholowski too, but the reason he hasn't stuck in Detroit is his defensive game is not up to where it needs to be, his offense is great... Scored a goal his first NHL game, but he just needs to tighten up the defense

    Yzerman found a diamond in the rough with this one and I LOVE it. I was shocked just like everyone in attendance but Stevie saw something in him no one else saw. Technically Raymond and Zegras are the top 2 (although Zegras is more of a social media marketing face for flashy goals, not saying he’s not a super talented player because he definitely is), but Mo is easily the Calder winner at this point in the season. He’s playing like a seasoned vet and is EASILY Detroit’s best Dman. He’s barely behind Zegras in points, which is a big deal with Mo being a blue liner. Even if Zegras wins it, keep in mind that as of now the likelihood of Edvinsson and Berggren playing next year is high. It’s easy to see both of them in the Calder top 3 at this time next year. Edv and Mo are going to make a disgusting pair and run the top D line for years to come. LGRW

Now he's completely dominating the SHL and might actually be the best defenseman in that entire league (top 3, at the very least), and he's not even 20 yet. I'm sure that Zegras and Caufield are going to have amazing careers, but having taken in at least 30 games of him over in Sweden, I now think this was an outstanding pick. Incredibly pumped for when he comes over from Sweden next season.

      Caufield would have been nice, looking at his playoff run. With that being said though, Cole Caufield wouldn't hve been doing anything spectacular if he didn't have the defense around him that he has now in MTL. Sooooooo yeah we draft caufield then what? We need defense we got it. We got it this year, our back line is set, Mo seider, edvinsson, Cossa, Ned, Bau, smart move by Yzerman, why go for forwards in 2021, when you can wait until 2022, when the prospects are looking like actual studs, and draft a good forward then.

      @spookbusterstirner5865 Před 2 lety

      @@jleif7736 I completely agree with you. It's not that flashy goalscoring forward, and that's perfectly fine. It's a defenseman with genuine potential to get Norris votes. Brawn and brains combined into a single package. A guy that can control the surface of the ice and drive possession from the back end at an insanely high level, and has the presence on the ice like a clenched iron fist. Great with the puck, processes and executes at a breathtaking pace, and imposes his will on opponents both physically and mentally. The plan is very apparent over these first few drafts. Turn the back end, including defense and goaltending, from a serious weak spot into a huge strength. And he's done that now. I think center is the next big question mark that they need to address. Hopefully they can add a Shane Wright in 2022 to solidify their future down the middle.

      He means defenseman, as the names he lists for comparison are defence so just a small blurp or just being in the mindset "we are now talking about D-men so with saying first player in this context I mean first D-man". Things that can happen on a live broadcast to anyone.

      One is incredible at defense. The other got sent back to the AHL because his defense was God awful.
