- We only do wethers for fair projects but have learned the in’s and out’s of bracing from others and lead training is about the same with all goats. So we hope this helps you with getting your market wether ready for the show ring.

Glad to know I’m not choking my goat when he makes that noise 🤣 it gave me a relief that my gosh does all the things your goat did lol 🤣
Wow, still need to catch mine first
Lol same mine is wild
You got to train them to do it
Same
Thanks! This was super helpful. My son is showing a market goat for the first time this year, and I am trying to make sure he knows all of the information. :)
Glad it helped
Thanks this is my first year raising a goat
So glad I didn't get a goat that jumps like that. I'm trying to learn how to train my goat before the show. Im in FFA and your video was helpful.
My goat jumps but the more I work with him he doesn’t 🤣 he always jumps on me and it gets on my nerves but I love it.
Thank you, this is my first year working with an animal.
Keep up the hard work
Thank you
I'm getting a goat for show , can't wait :))
Grace I am so pleased that you pointed out how uncomfortable the rope halter can be for the goat. I have watched youth goat shows and there are always people who seem completely oblivious to the discomfort they are causing the goat. Thank you for getting the word out. You are a good ambassador for the show wether industry.
She’s very good with her horse, calves, and rabbits too.
it also depends on what rope halter you get to big it goes on there eyes to small it closes of there mouth but if you get the right size it wont do any of that like when I was working with lambs I had one that was perfect and it was able to drink and breath but it did not cover up its eyes but you also should be very trained on using them for horses its more dangers but with smaller animals like lambs and goats its kinda okay no hate it is only my opinion
Very nice looking goat. thanks for the video!
This was SOOOOOOOOOOOOO Helpful!!!!! We are going to watch this tonight!!! Thank you so much!
Glad to hear thank you
Yes! Please do more videos throught his training process.
Will do
I couldn’t help but giggle. Reminds me so much of the jersey flop! 😂
Yep it’s a lot alike
Thank you, you help so much . This weekend we had are first show and won best in class , grand champion, and showmanship
Love it congrats
this is super good
very helpful thank you!
No problem
Lol! When I started working wth my boys I called his little jumps and yells “ prancy tantrums “ 🤪🤪🤪
thank you it is good help
excellent
I was very impressed with your video you did a great job
Thank you
Hey don't pull me. I don't like to jump lol😂
That’s so funny about her wearing flip-flops . My wife would wear slippers when working the animals. I gave up on harping on her. It took her years before she finally decided to wear the proper footwear outdoors.
lol I still wear crocs
I love boar goat
So when holding their heads up when trying to brace train them(when holding them off the ground), does that ever hurt/bother the goat after awhile?
How much time per day do you work with them?
They are only held off the ground for a very short period of time and the way it’s done they aren’t dangling there by the head. It may look that way, but it doesn’t feel that way if you’re the one doing it. Wethers might protest by vocalization but it doesn’t physically bother or hurt them. We’ll usually break up sessions into 1/2 hour blocks. Walk and bracing/showmanship practice, put them away for awhile and then exercise with the tire. It’s all usually done during the morning and evening while it’s cooler.
When brace training is the weight of the goat on the thigh of the handler? Is the goal to get them used to standing in that more stretched out stance without fighting you?
You shouldn’t have no weight on the handler once trained the wether should be pushing against the handler but not hard enough they are fighting then.
Hello, love the video. Just wondering, what halter are you using on the goat? I want to get one like that. We are trying to train some of our boers for a show later this year. Can we buy it online somewhere? Thank you :)
The one we are using in this video is just a weaver halter from Tsc
@@ClearCreekFarm Okay, thank you so much. :)
The clips at the end…we’re they of how not to train them? Thanks. Or did you add videos somewhere else if the DONTs of training?
It’s been a little bit but I think it how not to do it
So my goat he kind of has a hay belly so I've been weaning off of that, do you have any recommendations of what to feed your goat. Also the whole thing with patience what could be an alternative if we dont have something like that?
We feed our wethers the same as we feed our other show animals but we only give them what they can clean up in like 5 minutes twice a day. And a hand full of hay every few day
My son has been working on walking his goat for 2 months now and when we walk with his mom (the goats mom) he is wonderful but when he takes him on his own he will roll sometimes but most the time he just lays down and refuses to move :( any suggestions? He is already strong enough its hard for him to keep him moving (60lbs).
As a parent that’s the time I would step in and make the animal do what I want it to do.
What type of halter do you use to train them to lead? What type of feed do you use? Do you keep feed to them unlimited, or do you feed them 2xs daily?
My step daughter likes a nylon halter with a chain under the Chin
Hi when you tie up the weathers after walking them how long do you do it for..???
10 or 15 minutes
sorry one more question, will you have to brace up during the fair?
Wethers
We are in central California and wondering if you know if we show with a chain or halter
If for 4-h it’s up to your local fair if ABGA you can show with chain or halter if for wethers we like halters.
Any tips for chain? My weather just won’t lead on the chain, he freaks out and puts his head down causing him to chock and I need tips please 🙏
Tie him with his head up and make him get use to that.
@@ClearCreekFarm omg thank you so much!
My son's show goat is over bracing causing him to overstretch. He has been working on breaking him of that the last 3 weeks, but show day is in 8 days and when he steps into him, the goat automatically reverts back to his bad habit of overstretching out his rear legs. Help!
That one could be tricky I say step into him like your going to brace him but don’t make contact with it. Maybe if he’s not pushed he will not push back.
Where did you get your nylon goat halter at? I cant seem to find one. Thanks
I think it’s a weaver
Hi, my weather will set up and push but won’t flex. Idk what to do??
Just keep on bracing them they will start doing it at work with them alot
Do you show them with that halter or do you have to use the collar?
Our girls show wethers with halters. We do use halter on some does but most of the time with collars.
Can you please teach my nephews how to brace😢 My blood pressure is through the roof
Does yours jump and flip in the air and land on there side and does it hurt them?
No never heard of anything like that before
Ours have done that. I think it’s just them protesting making them walk. They’re ornery and stubborn 😅
What is the difference between 4-h goat whether and doe and also full-blooded doe and whether?
It really just different styles of the same kind of animal we will be doing a video with more details
my first year in 4-H
Hi wondering how long to run the goat if we decide to run it.
Short Intervals build up to 40 or 50 yards.
Hey can you guys get a hold of me I just got two baby’s goats yesterday and i wanna start training them for show in July
Clear Creek Farm on Facebook
Is it better to show a whether or a doe? I have both and I have no idea which one to show 😅
It’s all depends on what your doing some fairs does sell higher but if they don’t I would just take a Wether
@@ClearCreekFarm Thanks!
What I do is just only train with show collar and the only time I use a lead is maintenance
We train with a halter lead and that’s the same we use to show wethers
When I brace my goat always turns whst could I do to stop
You can pick them up and keep turning till they brace works good
Hi iam showimg this year for the first time any tips for me
It just takes lots of time and hard work you have to work on it every day till you get really good at it.
Is it better to show a wether or a doe
When do you start weaning your kids from the mom? Thanks
8-10 weeks
Thank you
What’s the purpose of bracing them?
They do that to get them to show off their muscles
You have to for show
Do you have to dehorn them for show
Only ones that dehorned for showing are wethers. All reg stock has horns.
@@ClearCreekFarm thank you we are just getting into if for our kids 4h we had only shown pigs and our daughter like showing pigs and wanted to try showing goats. We will be putting it up on our channel when we start off with them.
Just dropped you a sub I’ll check out your stuff.
what does disengaged and brace up mean
This is my first year doing a goat.
To be technical I’m not for sure because we only do our daughters fair wether.
What if the goat is to big or heavy for me
Just work with him till he will brace
What kind of Halter is that.
Weaver nylon halter
Mine are just stubborn girls
Why are you working him in the rain ? Goats hate rain!!
I don’t remember but I think it just got done raining
Why doesn’t she talk to him while he’s working??
She does talk to him.
You don't use a halter in a show ring. This isn't the proper way to show.
What’s not the proper way? Not using a halter been showing this way for years.
