I've always liked how quickly J goes from doing the "sarcastic cop" to complete serious when K blows Jeebs head off. No hesitation at all
Will is genuinely on his A game, such great characterization
Why can't I give you more likes?
J whipped that gun out so damn fast
still a cop
@Qodryan buset salah server bang
Anybody else love how J immediately tries to arrest K as soon as he sees him shoot someone who was unarmed? It's a brief moment but it's an amazing detail that highlights how J can go from being easy going and laidback to serious and sincere.
And how he's an honest and decent cop, too.
He was going to kiill another cop for shooting a bad guy? Is that how it works? Is it not a bigger crime to kill a fellow cop than a suspect? I've never seen any cop react to their superior like that in fiction before-
@Sam Okay, I need to rewatch the movie but at this point only Will Smith's character is the law enforecement? Why is he then entertaining the threats of the civilian and working alongside him, seemingly?
@@ots1634 Kay came to Jay about the alien Jay chased in the intro. He explained that the shop owner, who Jay was familiar with from a past crime activity, sold guns to the alien that was chased.
Jay "entertained" the threats because he was playing off the "good cop, bad cop" routine to get information -- one guy threatens, the other pretends to be your friend by persuading the culprit to divulge whatever information before the other decides to "harm" them which is usually a bluff.
Jay wasn't actually expecting Kay to shoot him, but he also did not know the shop owner was an alien, and that the shot wouldn't actually kill him. That's why he drew his gun.
@@eraart7234 exactly.
I love how Jeebs' lazy eye is at a different angle in relation to his other one when his head grows back, as if no matter how often he regrows it, that eye will never be quite right.
very yes
@@GollyGeeWilikers Omg I just noticed its the OTHER EYE! His left eye is wonky and then after he gets shot its the right one lol

Steven Vilagi you sold a reverberating carbonizer with mutate capacity to an unlicensed Cephalopoid, Jeebs, you piece of..
It looked alright to me.
It must've been for an assassination, who's the target?
I love how Smith instantly reacts when he shoots Jeeves. Like before his body even hit the floor his gun was on him.
I mean he WAS a cop before MIB, so it makes sense to react like that. But yeah it’s a good touch.
@@stingerjohnny9951 Yeah, but like how fast he reacted. Zero hesitation. Not half a second of "wait, what?"
Gotta be quick on the draw in the line of duty, so long as you know what you're looking at and don't act foolishly...
And J _wasn't_ acting foolishly. He was unknowing about Jeebs, sure. But J didn't jump the gun and shoot it.
0:45 I'm impressed on how quickly J reacted to this.
He drew his pistol between frames.
Jeebs gets shot at 0:45, frame 11. At 0:45 frame 18, we cut to J, whose hand is on his gun but it is still tucked into his waist. By 0:46 frame 05 (11/24 of a second later) it is aimed at K's head.
@@billb207 not the fastest conscious human reaction speed possible, but less than half a second to pull out and ready your weapon like that is still impressive
@@shaggy4real97 Well, they screen for a lot of factors. This alone shows J is very aware of his surroundings, having the reaction speed to pull the gun and be ready. His mind was what got him his role, but his training is what got him in the door.

It would grow back on me. And it talks.
Anything but his head
Why not just Snap him out of existence, Brolin?
I love how Jay is desperately trying to keep things on his level of comprehension: "yeah...and uh...imma be back to talk about them rolexes".
It's great how at first J mistakenly believes K is merely playing up the "Bad Cop" role in the old fashioned "Good Cop/Bad Cop" routine until he shoots.
TLJ's mere look of incredulous disgust the minute J identifies the gun is a really nice touch.
This entire scene is gold from start to finish.
"Oh, well, I'm a huge a crack dealer, but I still work here because I love the hours." Tony Shalhoub is brilliant.
One of the small, insignificantly seeming lines that we never caught as a kid.
I literally just caught that line now and I grew up watching this on VHS lol
I thought he was good in 13 Ghosts
"well I'm a huge crack dealer now but I still work here 'cuz I love the hours!"
HOW did this line slip past everyone
Please elaborate. Not all of the people that watch the movie have english as their main language
@@rizalalbar sure man! He's being sarcastic and saying that he deals drugs (crack cocaine) but still works in his pawn shop because the hours he works are so good. I'm surprised that a line openly referencing drug dealing like that made it into a family movie

Special effects are still absolutely amazing... They honestly look better then most modern movies!
tankmaster1018 ikr
tankmaster1018 lol no they don't especially not in the 2nd movie
this was around the same time as the jurassic park effects were being designed and improved upon...some of the same people in the same industry. but this scene is a combination of computer effects, puppetry and good acting by the actor playing Jeebs.
You ain't kidding there! Just right than cheap!
cainster Well, ILM have always been industry leading. The Star Wars original trilogy revolutionised the industry, then the prequel trilogy revolutionised it again and brought in the age of CGI imagery we see today. The phantom Menace was being developed at the same time as this roughly so it makes sense this film looks amazing seeing as TPM was pretty groundbreaking visually
"Drop the weapon and put your hands on your head!"
"I warned him!"
"Drop the weapon!"

Thanos: _"You should have gone for the head"_
K: Forget the head, shoot him where it don't grow back.
Funny you mentioned that, considering that young K in MIB 3 was played by Josh Brolin.
"You sold a Reverberating Carbonizer to an unlicensed Sepholaphoid(?) Jeebs. You piece of... "He looked alright to me" Dang, some creative writing there. Hahaha.
It's not just a reverberating carbonizer. It also has mutate capacity.
@@manictiger Then that makes it one of best lines in cinematic hishtory.
Cephalopoid*. And don't forget the mutate capacity! Which might explain how it "dissolved" in the scene where "James" knocks it out of the perpetrator's hands and it melts away; perfect weapon for an assassination, which is why K questioned Jeeb's about it. "He looked alright to me", goes to show how dodgy Jeebs was, cos' he must've known the buyer's intent!.
The MIB "movie world" is so richly imagined, like many of it's contemporaries. I'm saddened by the caliber of sci-fi flicks that are made today.

You know, I had to rewind the video a bit to see how fast Will took out that gun. It was pretty quick.
Being an undercover cop means alot to him, obviously.
Those cop reflexes.
In 12 frames he went from holstered to site picture. Damn impressive.
@Stefano Pavone And, despite world shattering new information, he lowered his gun when the situation changed. If only we actually had cops that competent and self disciplined. Even when he gestured with the pistol it was completely point down and safe. /smh
Well, we all know Jeebs never leaves Earth despite K's orders.
The reactions to each other is brilliant
From the show:
K: "What do you know about this?"
Jeebs: "I don't know what you're talking about." *gets head blown off*
"Well, it does look sorta familiar." *gets head blown off*
"Okay, so maybe said item was in my possession and I may have given it to someone of ill-repute."
K: "You sold it to Alpha, didn't you?"
Jeebs: "Uhhhh....."
The rhythm and the ping-ponging of the dialogue is pure art... needs talent and hard work from everyone involved, something we should cherish
Did anyone else notice the lazy eye switched from before he got shot to the other size, after he got shot? 23 years later and still the little details that went unnoticed.

Is that what Master Chief looks like without his helmet?
I like this movie because it assumes the audience knows what a "Reverberating Carbonizer w/ Mutating Capacity" is haha. It's honestly refreshing because I'm tired of being babied through films these days.
It's technobabble; it doesn't mean anything. To me, that's part of the charm
It covers the target with a carbonite shell that rings when tapped. It also has a shape shifting container for the carbon based casing material. Don't ask me why about that. Or it modifies the DNA of the target. Not sure which.
It assumes we're smart enough to just think, "Well none of that sounds particularly pleasant. Getting shot by it would probably kill me in an awesome but horrific manner".
@@jasonlisonbee How can that assassinate a living being?

I came for the slap memes.
Yes! This clip has one of my favorite movie quotes! "Why do you lie to me, Jeebs? I hate it when you lie." I quote it all the time and no one ever seems to know what I'm talking about.
There's loads of quotables in this, some of my favourites off the top of my head that I try and repeat in day-to-day life if I can:
K to J when they stop the pregnant couple: "And you, uh, deal with that."
K in MiB HQ: "Elvis ain't dead, he just went home"
Alien Prince: "B-b-but is word."
J when stepping on the roaches: "Don't start nuthin, won't be nuthin"
Hats off to Tony Shalhoub. Going from Jack Jeebs to Adrian Monk.
And he was Antonio Scarpacci on the excellent earlier comedy TV show "Wings"
All his high end alien weapons in plain view of the street
He should be thankful Will Smith did not slap him
