- We are RVing Canon City Colorado! In this episode, we explore Tunnel Drive, The Royal Gorge Bridge, and Skyline Drive. Canon City is just 1 hour south of Colorado Springs.
RVing full time has brought us to Canon City. This small town has a lot to offer. First, we take a short drive to Tunnel Drive located on the west side of Canon City. After a short hike, we drive a little further outside of town to the world's largest suspension bridge. Unfortunately, the gondola that goes over the Royal Gorge is closed. We opt out of paying $16.00 to walk across the Royal Gorge Bridge. Then last but not least we take a scenic drive on Skyline Drive. A road that is not for the faint of heart. You might want to leave your RV home on this one!

Rode the Skyline on our Harley back in 2012. Awesome view! Also another attraction is the confinement facility in Canon City, which also houses some of the most notorious that were amongst us. Notably a few from 9/11who were part of the attack on the WTC. You weren't that far from Cripple Creek. Shoulda made a pass through there....Brought back memories..thanks

We took a trip to Denver and drove to the Royal Gorge. I couldn't talk my family into going across. On the way back from the Royal Gorge, I tried to talk them into driving on Skyline Drive...it was a BIG NO. The excuse was it's too high. Keep in mind we flew to Denver at an altitude of over 30,000 feet which is okay, but Skyline Drive is about 800-1000 feet higher than the surrounding terrain... that's too high.

Too bad they wanted $16 just to walk across. We went their 5 years ago and walking across a wood bridge like 1000 feet high that you could see through was pretty crazy. Hope you had some fun in the area.
Yeah we were kinda bummed out about that but we also did a train ride in the Gorge. Keep an eye out for that video coming soon!

We were there last month and we found an impressive road to drive. It's called Phantom Canyon Road. It starts by Cripple Creek. Amazing views!
