  • There are many reasons to travel solo! Perhaps you lost your partner and are now on your own. Perhaps your partner doesn't like to travel, but you do! Maybe your friends are too busy, too lazy, too poor, or too reluctant.
    For seniors, it can either be daunting or liberating! I think if you select the right destinations and the right type of travel, anyone can do it and have a fabulous journey. Please subscribe and turn on notifications if you'd like to follow my solo travels and get periodic travel advice.
    Also, make sure to check the descriptions on all of my videos for senior and solo traveler information for the specific destinations.

    People, I want to see more of your channel. I'm 67, from the USA, retired, currently in Thailand, looking to "slow travel" the world. Where are you? Whazzup?

      Awesome! I'm heading to Japan and S Korea in May. First time there, so I'm excited. How is Thailand? I hope to get there in the next couple years. Love your description of "slow traveling." Enjoy!

    At 77 I've been travelling solo for over 40 years with 61 Countries and no regrets. Just back from a trip to Antigua and Aruba (New British Airways route) and planning a trip to Egypt. Just waiting for the temperature to drop a little. Love the freedom to do whatever I wish. Never had a serious problem, biggest was dealing with aggressive beggars in Costa Rica. A whack with my walking cane solved that one.

      @@seniorsolotravel hi, how do you manage all the price gouging for solo travelers? was looking at some cruises and going solo about doubles the cost.

    • @seniorsolotravel
      @seniorsolotravel  Před 2 měsíci

      Good question. I managed to snag some pretty good prices right after the pandemic, but I haven't found any great deals lately, except for repositioning cruises. I think its best to look at the price per day for the stateroom because sometimes paying for a regular (usually inside) stateroom is cheaper than a solo stateroom. Make sure you compare. There is a site I use called Vacations to Go, where you can plug in solo discounts and it will list all the cruises available with solo offers. Hopefully, that will help. Good luck and happy travels!

    Hello this is awesome. I've been researching retirement travel and slow traveling. And I've only come across couples I don't know why I didn't think to put solo into the search bar😂. That being said sold my house, sold most everything else, and stored what little I had left for my son to take when he needs it.
    I'm heading out to Iceland on the 27th to start my slow travel solo life. I'm planning on doing vlogs like this myself and I have to agree with all of the humor you added.😊
    I'll catch the rest of your videos Hope to see you out there, Papa B

      Welcome to the senior solo traveling club! It sounds like you really committed yourself! I'm heading to Iceland too...at the end of the summer. I like your term slow traveling. I'm currently in the last stretch of a month-long trip to Japan and S Korea and have been going to 3-4 destinations per day. I could use some slower traveling right now and have been thinking I need to plan more down time on my trips. Hopefully I'll see some of your vlogs. Safe travels!

    I travelled alone for years when I was younger. Thank goodness for my journal, because I have to admit, the world felt huge, and I got lonely. Now that we're doing this as a team, I love having someone to share the planning, decision-making, and the aha moments with. But there is definitely a compromise that comes with it. I still do some solo travel on my own and take some groups on trips without my husband, but I'm lucky to have found someone better than my journal for company. If I'd been half the woman I am now when I was young, I'd have been a better color traveller!

    • @seniorsolotravel
      @seniorsolotravel  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Interesting comment. I traveled quite a bit with my late husband, who was a bit of a reluctant traveler, but always good fun once we got there. It's different on my own now, but I do think I'm less insulated when I'm on my own. It encourages me to step beyond my comfort zone and meet new people. I think every journey is a learning experience, so I try to take things I've learned from each trip with me. Happy traveling!

    Hi Lori, Thanks for creating this channel. I'm getting ready to travel solo to Costa Rica for vacation and remote work, and now I have a little less trepidation about how this is going to work out. I know what you mean deal with other people's schedules and needs. This way I can do as I please on my own schedule. I think my biggest concern is that I might be a little lonely or feel socially awkward at times. There are a lot more solo travelers in their 20's then in their 60s but we'll see!!

      @seniorsolotravel  Před 4 měsíci

      Oh, that sounds wonderful. Solo traveling rocks! I've been to Costa Rica before, visiting family. I loved my visit to Corcovado National Park. If you are near the Park, try to join an excursion. I took two: One focused on whale watching and snorkeling, and another that took us into the park. Both were fantastic. Happy and safe travels. I'd love to hear how it went when you return!

    Before I retired, I was a corporate road warrior who traveled a great deal both domestically and overseas. After I retired, my wife and I traveled a lot: by car, by train, by plane, by ship. We had great fun. Now a widower and thus a party of one, I find travelling alone to be socially awkward and difficult if truth be told. But I do enjoy your CZcams narratives.

    • @seniorsolotravel
      @seniorsolotravel  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Yes, I'm a widower too, but have such nomadic bones I've tried to find a way. I took a Viking Cruise for my first solo adventure because I thought it would simplify things. On one of the first days, they had a solo traveler meeting where I met other solo travelers. I ended up spending time with a couple of them throughout the journey, which definitely made it more fun. I have a month long trip planned to S Korea and Japan, which is more of a land and train trip. That one will take a bit more guts, especially when I don't speak the language! Stay tuned...and thanks for sharing.

      Very interesting channel, looking forward to many tips from you. Went on a Viking cruise recently (with my wife, we really enjoyed it) and can see that you could have a good holiday with them as a single. Japan is easy to travel around as many people speak Engish and lots of screens in stations, restaurants, street signs show both English and Japanese. Travelled by train there which is really good, there are rail passes available which are good value. @@seniorsolotravel

      Thanks for your comment. I'm happy to hear that Japan is easy to navigate. I had heard the opposite regarding English signage, so that makes me a bit more at ease. I'm looking forward to it. Thanks again for sharing.

      I think if you pick the right kind of trip, then it can help relieve the stress of traveling alone. My first trip was on a Viking Ocean cruise. On the first day, they had a meeting for solo travelers and from there on out, I had buddies on board. Any sort of guided tour will put you in a group of like-minded individuals. I'm getting more adventurous with each trip. I'm hoping to create a video soon on advice for solo travelers. Stay tuned!

    I am a teacher and have lived and taught in many foreign countries. Now, I want to travel in the USA again after not doing in for 20 years. Is there a website that you recommend for female travel or dating?

    • @seniorsolotravel
      @seniorsolotravel  Před 10 měsíci +2

      I don't have any specific recommendations. I have noticed when searching that there is a difference between solo travel and single travel. Single travel tends to be more geared toward meeting other singles, whereas solo travel is about going places on your own. However, I think you meet people either way!
