This has been the worst year for weather......I'm a bit of a fair weather gardener and I keep waiting to get out there and do what needs to be done. Good Luck with your travels, looks like such good fun.

Aye, was good fun indeed revisiting the canal. I try not to let the weather stop me from getting out & about and having a good time :)

Interesting to see the Purton Hulks up close. I’ve never explored that far down the canal despite growing up in and around Gloucester and rowing on the canal.

I grew up in the Rockhampton/Thornbury area so got to know the Sharpness end of the canal pretty well as a youngster; never explored the hulks till this trip.

    Who was Gordon Bennet ?

"Gordon Bennet " is an expression of disgust or surprise. Difficult to say who he was as there have been so many.

Well, I found this: Where did the phrase Gordon Bennett come from?
The Gordon Bennett Cup was being held in County Kildare, Ireland in 1903. With an influx of wealthy foreign patrons, the local restaurant, bar and café owners could smell money in the air and put their prices up significantly, to which the locals exclaimed 'Gordon Bennett'. He was also an intrepid adventurer.

@@jeanhopman5659 I'd read on good old wikipedia (Not sure how reliable wiki is.) that the expressions thought to derive from the controversial reputation of James Gordon Bennet Jr (1841-1918).

@melsmith2887 I suspect it's safe to say no one will know for sure who the expression "Gordon Bennet" is based on.
