Maria, I'm so glad you enjoyed Disturbed's cover version "The Sound of Silence" by Simon & Garfunkel. David Draiman -Lead singer of Disturbed was actually trained to be a Cantor when he was younger, and that experience is evident in his performances. In fact his Grandfather was a Cantor. Disturbed are known for there harder rock performances, but have a variety of styles of music they do. Their music always has a great message, and their video's are so well done, and keeping with the message they're trying to convey. There Bio has so much more than I can express here. David Draiman...amazing range and control...a powerful yet soulful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to rasp/distortion/vocal fry and back on a dime, which is incredibly difficult to do . He is so unique as he actually puts vibrato on his distortion!....also VERY difficult to do...one of the best male vocalists on the planet imho. Loved your reaction.
Great reaction as always. Simon and Garfunkel's version was a gentle warning. Disturbed's version is an angry admonishment for not listening to the previous warning. Both are great in their own way.
I just found this song in early July, 2023. I keep playing this over and over. I can say I was totally "Disturbed" by the end of the video. What a fantastic cover this was. I liked everything about it. Thank you for your thoughtful comments. I was not a heavy metal person, I am 78 and I thought this video was excellent. I enjoy reading everyone's comments and everyone's reaction.

Erich and Steve are both former members (Erich was the vocalist/frontman - at that time the band was call "Brawl" - David asked that they change it to "Disturbed" when he came on board). Steve was the bass player for their first 2 albums and was replaced by John thereafter.
Great intuitive reaction. I've heard it said, and I whole heartedly agree, where Simon & Garfunkel were calling out a warning.... Disturbed is raging that the warning was not listened too. Hence the "darkness" that you "felt".... EXACTLY what they were going for. I encourage you to check out the live version from Conan... I guarantee that you will enjoy it and it will lock in as your favorite forever.
Disturbed is a rock metal group and it's why I've never heard of them, not my particular type of music to listen to until they came out with this rendition from a 1964, the year I was born, Simon and Garfunkel original. It was powerful and the message a lot clearer. Paul Simon, which is the writer to that song complemented the group for it's rendition.
I'm a hard core Pentaholic and love their version, but this one is the only version for me. I heard it before the PTX one and instantly fell in love. It just speaks to me, the rage, regret, mourning (darker like you said) of the message for current day. It's perfect and David Draimen's voice is simply breathtaking! His voice is classically trained as a Cantor. Who'd have thunk?

Hi Maria, unless you are a big metal fan you may not know them....we metal heads absolutely know who they are and David is a trained "Cantor" (hazzan in Jewish faith) and his voice is absolutely great. The version of this they did on Conan late night show is stunning....live. 🥰🥰

Paul Simon said he wrote this after a dream and the meaning is still argued about.

Poor David was really poorly with a bad cold when he sung it on Conan, so I urge you to watch the official video to hear David in top form and the visuals really add to the music.

Who would have ever thought that DISTURBED, a HEAVY METAL Band would NAIL The Sound of Silence liken they did. If you want to hear their "NORM", you should check out "Down with the Sickness" Just top give you a heads up, there is a clean version and an uncut version. The clean version will let you see the "NORM", the Uncut version is just, DEEPER NORM. LOL. Great Post, Maria.

The Pentatonix version has too many competing voices and you always start comparing how the last person sang their part and too many different voices. David's single voice carries the whole song with many levels.

This is definitely the most intense version. Tim Foust and Peter Hollens do a version of this also, far more traditional, and in my opinion, superior to the Pentatonix version.
I checked Tim & Peter's version a few days ago.. It had nice harmony and was well done. Disturbed's is the best ever.

One of my top 3 covers of all time. Along with the band Bad wolves who covered " zombie" But there's one more that if you or anyone hasn't seen this? It's my #1 of all time. And that is " Stairway to Heaven " live at the 2012 Kennedy Center Honors. Covered by Ann and Nancy Wilson of heart also on drums the son of the late john bonham. Jason bonham. With the remaining members of Led Zeppelin in attendance.

He sang this same song on a TV show and I loved it. But I didn't like this music video. Funny is the same song, same band, same singer but played in a different way. And by the way, I really liked the new presentation of your channel. It was beautiful! You look very good with loose hair

I think the video gives even more weight to the song as it shows real pictures that relate to the song. By the time he gets to the "The sign flashed its warning", it was so powerful, like an avalanche coming down the mountain. I can almost see the "Danger, Danger, Danger, Warning, Warning, Flee, Flee" as the Huge Neon Sign Flashes A Warning One More Time.
Please remove the rain drops. They actually take away from this beautiful production. Just my opinion. Thanks Diane ❤
I didn't like your reaction! No emotion on your face while listening to the song - icy face. It was as if she had prepared in advance what you were going to say and was just waiting for the video to end! :( I watched for 7 minutes and ran away.
