- It's time for some useless data! So what is the strongest attack in the game & is it possible to survive it? LET'S FIND OUT!
Many thanks to Nondas Gousoplousus on twitter who suggested "Can you survive a barrage of ruin archers without blocking?". Got me thinking if this WAS the strongest attack. Now we know!
----------------TL:DW & BONUS NOTES----------------
- The first step is simply identifying the strongest attack. There are some good contenders. Midir's lazor beams, Old Demon King final explosion, Aldrich's 1000 arrows.
- But the strongest is the Judicators summons! (if you do consider the screech as an "attack", inb4 semantic debates) The strongest being approx 10 archer phantoms who fire 3 arrows each. Even at SL125 + HP rings it easily can cut you down in a few arrows.
- But standing at the 1st bonfire, close the the bridge he will summon 25ish ARCHER's instead! Oh dear...
- For this we need the MAX THRUST DEFENSE, which comprises of Morne's Helm, Executioners Leggings, Havel's Gauntlets and Cathedral knight armor.
- The rings you want are the LIFE RING+3, RING OF FAVOR+3, RING OF STEEL PROTECTION+3 & BLUE TEARSTONE RING.
- You now have the choice of the Havel's shield STONESKIN buff or IRONFLESH. They are indentical and don't stack.
- You cannot stack the miracle DEEP PROTECTION for bonus defense.
- Finally you can spam the weapon art PERSEVERANCE. The weapons defense values are NOT considered and the only difference being how long the buff lasts. But spamming means we don't need to account for this window.
- With ALL of this together WITH the max soul level of 802. We have a whopping 250 thrust defense & 85.827 THRUST ABSORPTION! ]
- We also have the max HP of 2122!
- With this set up you can block ALL the arrows.
- But trying this again in NG7 onwards it becomes impossible. You can't even BLOCK the arrows with the highest stability shield anymore!
- Unless you simply use GREAT MAGIC SHIELD. Then you can block whatever you damn please!

I remember being invaded once in this area, I was near the bonfire, so I carefully watched the invader from a distance and when he was almost half way through I popped a seed of giants and watched the archers do their work, it felt so damn good.

I popped a seed once when I got invaded in that swampy area with a Judicator. Believe it or not, it wasn't the summoned archers that killed the invader, it was those beyblade clerics near the giant staircase after he chased me XD

In Dark Souls 2, enemies stop spawning after they've been killed enough time. That means there must be a finite number of souls in that game. I wonder what that number would be if you included items that increase soul rewards.
You can use items to respawn enemies, but it brings that area into NG+
Yes, but in a single run of New Game, there must be a cap of some sort. Not to mention rings and items that increase soul rewards. Theoretically, one could find the maximum soul reward of every enemy in the game, multiply it by how many of those enemies are in an area, factor in how many times an enemy has to die until it permanently de-spawns, and then add the total number of findable items such as petty souls, great souls, boss souls, etc. Then, if you're feeling especially crazy, you can also find the value of all items in the game, and use them calculate how much you could make pawning them to the merchant characters that allow you to sell your items. Of course, this would have to be an off-line run so that data won't be corrupted by souls earned through invasion.
Join champions covenant and theyll respawn indefinitely
That's a perfectly viable choice, but that isn't my point. The game was designed with a de-spawn mechanism. That means that it was designed with a final limit to how many souls are in each iteration of the game, be it New Game, NG+, NG++, or so on. Covenants and online participation are variables that alter that number, but someone running a factionless, offline, no deaths, no levels, 100% genocide and completion would find at the end of the run a completely empty world with the final number of souls acquirable in their inventory. And that would have to include all the DLC. The only point of contention would have to be the memories which, to my knowledge, have limitless spawn. For the sake of agreement, let us assume that the memories are completed first try and are never run again.

This is why in all strategy games that have archers I just use 200-300 of them. Archers are always broken in numbers.

For the record you can block ANY type of damage excluding status (poison, bleed, frost or curse) if you have a shield with at least 65 stability with strong magic shield buffed and not even lose stamina while being hit, you're welcome gamers.

Its Midir laser I think, not the laser itself but the explosion after: in NG7+ it can one shot a character who have the strongest armor and 40 in all stats.

Tears of Denial make you unkillable against any attack with only 1 tick of damage, bringing this spell into discussion is pointless.

Edgy boi I parry with a weapon on my left hand (my favorite being the Simitar). So there’s no need for a shield at all. I did used them when I started playing DS for the first time. But I find it more challenging and thrilling by dodging or parrying with a weapon.

kazooplayer 02 Which, from a realism and historical standpoint, is actually pretty fair because in real life history an arrow is much more devastating than a sword, axe, or mace because it ruptures organs, slices inner muscles, tears arteries, and, depending on draw weight of the bow shooting them, can go all the way through a person. Also arrows are one of only a few weapons that can hurt someone whose wearing full plate armor or "knight armor" which is common in this game. The weapons are maces, hammers, war picks, spears, and arrows because maces, hammers, and war picks can smash or pierce the armor and spears and arrows can be used to stab at small gaps under arms and in eye slits on the helmets. You could argue that swords and daggers can also do the same as spears and arrows but they are much less effective and when it comes to slashing at someone in full plate armor it's completely useless it is impossible to get through plate armor just by slashing with a sword, even if done many times.
meAntonnnio oh sorry what I meant by that was that an arrow could go between plates and eye slits. Of course I know it wouldn't pierce the plates themselves.

Any shield that has at least 60 stability and is enchanted with great magic shield has 0 stamina usage. Even if you apply normal magic shield to the +5 moaning shield it still would have 0 stamina usage.
actually its 70 stability you need. Great magic shield gives +30 artificial stability. My fav shield to do this with is wolf knight greatshield. Weighs very little compared to other greatshields, is weapon skill art and gives extra resistance to status effects. Pop the spell and for as long as it holds it blocks all damage. Physical, magic elemental... with 0 stamina usage. Pretty useful in the right scenarios. Even against players who never see it used.

I think Aldrich's arrow rain is the most powerful attack. Impossible to survive even blocking
Surprsingly it's really easy to survive by casting twisted light which deflect spells cause that attack along with many others are considered spells.

@@peterjohansson1828 the difference is that you can block 98% of the attacks in the game with a shield even if on some you will take a little damage. The rain of arrows is one of the few attacks completely impossible to block with Midir's laser beam. Its laser beam blasts your shield it takes all your stamina and then you are forced to suffer the explosion that comes just behind 😉
@@meramagma I learned that even if you run, it’s still extremely difficult to avoid perfectly as an arrow or 2 will always hit you since the arrow barrage chases you faster than you can run.

Each arrow is a separate attack for the archers. For the Judicator, the entire volley is its single attack.

Could you make a video how critical damage for backstabs etc. is calculated?
I tested a rapier and the dagger. The dagger did 327 damage on a backstab, the rapier just 253, though both have the same critical of 130 and the rapier had 10 points more AR. So has the dagger class a hidden multiplier? And which weapons can the dagger outdamage, for example the Crowquills or exiled Greatsword. Finally what is the best crit weapon for low investment, the Dagger, Mailbreaker or something else?

I think it would be great to see this video idea for the other souls games, especially now that elden ring is out. Radahn's meteor, his long range arrow rain or Hoarah Loux's earthquake would be my guesses for the strongest attack from that game.
