Mariko is goated
Was*
Totally So heartbreaking Everyone was fooled thinking it was Yabushige letting in the Shinobi to kill Ishido’s men, but it was the dirtbag slicky boy Ishido helped by treasonous turncoat Yabushige that sent the Shinobi to kill Mariko & Angin-San.
Anna Sawai crushed it as Lady Mariko If she doesn’t receive some accolades for her work here, it will be blasphemy.
Yo the actress deserves an Emmy
I got an ad for Arby’s in the middle of the video add that to the list of reasons they’re trash. 😂
the MVP
They tried to kidnap her so she wouldn't cause another scene. She realized that and stood at the door so her death could spark an outrage with the other clans
Yea idk why reactors are getting this wrong. Yabu definitely betrayed them and let Ishido's shinobi in, to kidnap Mariko. Yabu wanted to take her towards the gate where she could get caught easily but Mariko changed the plan and instead went to the storehouse with thick doors. The rest is as you said.
@@derpybirbexactly she said she would never be captive, or held hostage. She meant that
At the very least she is creating non compliance. In the real life battle some armies didn’t even move to assist and left 😂 or turned sides mid battle at critical moments to tip the balance enough to help the Tokugawa side (Toronaga in the series) win.
@@derpybirb yeah its kinda weird that most of the reactors I watch all think the shinobi are Toranaga's lol.
@@derpybirb I think the title Crimson Sky threw every one off. They saw an attack and just presumed it was Toranaga that ordered it but it was Ishido.
Her first death was as Mariko Toda
Her second death as the samurai Mariko Akechi
oh god
🔥🔥🔥
this is my favorite detail of the death. she refused to be known by her new government name, to her essentially a slave name, and went out in protest as her proud family name. absolutely beautiful writing for a final act of defiance
Yabushige literally pulled the "what's over there?!" on that guard.
He was like is that a plane?
wait for the finale when toranaga reveals his long con and does "Get Help" with his brother
😭😭😭😭
Its a spy baloon from china 😂
"Must have been the wind..."
6:23 aye bruh! Those subtitles threw me off! I was like “hold up! I don’t remember that!” 😂
🤣
(Me rushing to the comments for this😂😅)
Caught my ass off guard, I rewinded so fast.
fuck same, i immediately shock. Then i remember thats Drake bar. wkwk
Bruh i was like they realy put the N word in there? 😂 6:26
14:52 "Flowers are only flowers because they fall". Transalation: "Life is only life because we die"
They didn't want to kill the women. They wanted to keep them as hostages secretly (since they can't do it officially) so they just wanted to blow open the door but Mariko sacrificed herself not to save the others but to turn the houses against Ishido and help Toranaga win the war.
She turned her death into a martyr
I was right lol
toranaga could not amass allies if those potential allies have family as hostages in osaka.
mariko stop that play by the regents
@@greggreyes6869 yup
10:02 That double kill by Mariko’s Samurai was soo clean. Removed the blood from his sword and sheathed it in one smooth motion as well.
Dude chopped off one of their fingers before he could draw his sword
Sick.
It's even smoother when you realize the first strike was just to slice the first guys fingers off 😂
@@2bored2care23 I never noticed that detail until someone pointed it out
and all those men know they were gonna die...SALUTE.
Marikos death was Crimson Sky all along. She stated her lineage at the beginning to show that she’s of the same level of nobility as everyone else so the other nobles would be outraged and side with Toranaga against the regents. And at the same time she gets the release she’s wished for for years. An incredible episode and character
Spoiler yo
@@TheAdammantiumWhat's there to spoil? Episode 9 is finished, and Crimson Sky has been achieved. Mariko's death within the walls of Osaka was the central goal of the plan. Nothing had been spoiled had you watched the episode yourself before coming into the reaction videos
@@theultimatewarlord69420 Crimson Sky was not implied to be Mariko's sacrifice until episode 10. Remember, for everyone BUT Torunaga, Crimson Sky was abolished since his surrender. There was no mention of Crimson Sky during this episode, or ever since his surrender that states this plan was Crimson Sky. If you figured out on your own, then good perception, but it is never expressed or even implied.
@@TheAdammantium Crimson sky is literally the title of the episode lol, of course everyone figured out that this was Mariko's sacrifice.
Anna Sawai just secured her Emmy come awards season. Holy hell, this episode rules. Can hardly fathom that we only have one more episode tonight.
She got so much hate for her character in Monarch too, people said she is a terrible actress but it was simply poor writing. This shows her true acting chops!
@@QuzgaDEFINITELY! If she gets snubbed at the Emmy's I'll KNOW the fix is in! Her performance was ABSOLUTE PERFECTION! ❤
"What a prince to a king? He a son, nga." peak poetry 🔥🔥🔥
Why does everyone’s hair look so majestic and royal today??? 😮
ong
Prolly cuz they’re fresh from Caleb’s wedding
My boy Roshi don’t got enough fresh cut left😅
The play is not to kill her, but to take her away.
The Shinobi's would just make it look like someone else abducted her so that both the hostages can shut up and there would be no blood towards other people to rebel.
Killing her would just make the other people revolt.
Mariko just took advantage of the situation and killed herself so that it would backfire towards Ishido's actual plan.
if she dies she becomes martyr. if she disappears then there is no outrage. the council could just deny it and lay the blame on toranaga
SHE was Crimson Sky all along. This was the long-game play,
Buddy caught an arrow real quick, they said ‘nah that’s too much sauce from you’
"Hold up they got a main character over there, let's fix that real quick before this scene goes any further."
😂😂 for real bruah. They were like “Ight you got your moment” lol
Bro sauced above his station
Man that shit pissed me off let him cook 😤
"Sorry my guy, we can not let you cook"
This episode solidifies Mariko as a top tier character 💯🥲❤️
Anna Sawai* not Mariko
@@enginaliosman4491 the character name is Mariko, Anna Sawai is the actress.
@@M.Hiro79 Anna Sawai is a top tier actress, but I didn't like Mariko as a fictional character and what she represented. That's what I tried to say.
Blackthorne moving like John Wick's ancestor🔥
22:22 The explosion was never meant to kill anyone in that room. It was to bust the door open. The goal is to capture Mariko alive, not to kill her. Mariko saw this opportunity to free herself and so she took it.
Mariko really told her son, she's in her Glorious purpose era
Mariko in the council room was chilling, and her fight against Ishido’s men was so intense, what an amazing performance by Anna Sawai throughout the whole episode.
The line where Mariko declares her bonafides by saying her family has been samurai for a thousand years was a stab at Ishido's own humble beginnings as a peasant who was only raised up to be a Lord by the first Unifier (Lord Kuroda) and then kept there by the second Unifier (the Taiko). Mariko was pretty much telling Ishido that he has no power over her and she saw him as just a jumped up bureaucrat who just happened to have found favor with those more powerful than him.
"whats a prince to a king" had me ROLLIN 🤣
Editor unmatched 😭😭 @6:23
This was Mariko's episode and Anna Sawai was phenomenal this episode, she's been great the whole season but this episode was just wow.
This is one of the best written episodes of television I have seen in a long time.
They slapped my neck with this one. I read a spoiler that said she was going to die, but when i was watching i thought she was going to survive 😂
Dude saaame. They fooled me into thinking i might have misread the characters name but nope
I think they tried to take Mariko but not kill her which is also why I think Yabushige accepts the offer because he doesn't actually want to kill her but only for her to temporarily "disappear" and be unable to get back to Toranaga to continue whatever plan they have
Again killing Mariko would've put great shame on Ishido for essentially "allowing" such an important person to be killed under his watch and city and the other lords would've have risen up all the same.... if she only "disappears" for a while they can still appease the other Lords while giving themselves time to fight Toranaga and disrupt their plans
Yabushige 100% did not expect or want Mariko to die and Blackthorne unintentionally threw a spanner in the plot
Her name is Anna Sawai. And she better get a damn Emmy for her performance. That shit was hurtful 😂
This episode as a whole was a masterpiece, Mariko's actress played it perfectly, the council scene, the samurai fight scene, the seppuku scene, everything was extremely intense, I was at the edge of my seat the whole time.
They really said "Sike" at Mariko's death just to clap her further in the episode
9:23 not the banana peel XD
When dude took his opponent's fingers on the draw, dealt with the other, then finished the first guy and put the sword away...I think I watched 15 times. And homie behind him was ready if he was needed. Beautiful swordwork and scene.
She was definitely talking to Ishido. Remember Toranaga said Ishido came up from nothing and got to where he is. Mariko came from generations of top stock. She let his ass know.
Blackthorne blasting ninjas through a wall was so slick. His main skill is sailing but damn he knows how to work those pistols.
Anna Sawai deserves all the awards!
I thought the fallout tv show was amazing and I loved it but shogun has just been a masterpiece to me, an art form, can’t believe tomorrow is the season finale and I’m gonna miss Mariko🥹 she was a real one
Damn, that deep & long silence of disbelief of you guys after that blow up scene followed by a credit scene of the priest singing a latin song was so relatable. I was just like that for a good 15 mins 😂
"he look adopted anyway" lmfaooooo
16:27 that metro meme killed me💀
10:01
Mariko's samurai achieved Boba Fett status in less than four minutes, I loved the detail of him starting with a slice that cut off his rival's thumb so that he couldn't take out his sword and then doing a chiburui (i.e. the process by which one symbolically removes blood from a sword blade once he was finished with those two guards.
Marikos death was 90% accurate to the real Mariko. After it, most of the others didn't trust Ishido anymore and gone against him. She is a real hero in the past story from Japan. This whole show is very accurate
Mariko sacrificed herself because Ishido was trying to capture her. If Mariko allowed herself to be captured alive, then the plan would fall apart. Now they can pin her death on Ishido and the higher ups will revolt against him.
21:16 Ishido wasn't planning on killing Mariko that night. Ishido wanted to capture Mariko alive to prevent her from meeting up with Toranaga. Remember how Mariko always wanted to die and fate keeps denying this from her? Keeping Mariko alive plays into her torture. Mariko realized that Ishido was playing her, so when she saw her chance to be free, she took it. I also think that Toranaga's plan for Mariko is to have her be killed by the hands of Ishido. So, I think what happened that night with the explosion, is the Crimson Sky.
Did anyone catch that Mariko was wearing a Crimson Kimono? She was the Crimson Sky sent to the castle to bring down Ishido
6:22 Editor thought they were sneaky here lmaoooo
Mariko was like damn I just survived... HMMM ALRIGHT TIME TO TRY AGAIN, THIS TIME WITH EXPLOSIVES!
6:23 Nah dawg, y'all editor be doing too much fr fr 😭🤣
🌸 “A flower is only a flower because it falls.” // “Wait until I have fallen.” 🌸 😢
10:00 naw bowin before u kill a mf is crasy tho 😂 dat shit was to smooth 💯 🤣
*The other word for a "second is "Kaishakunin";* A kaishakunin is a person appointed to behead someone who has performed seppuku so they dont suffer too much.
So usually after the samurai (here Mariko) successfully stabs themeselves, the kaishakunin strikes them from behind. Traditionally, a second was utilized by people committing seppuku for honorable reasons. *I think it's moreso cultural than Christian beliefs.* It was said that "Mariko has 2 hearts" or something.
Cause she asked that other guy to be her second but he never showed up. However, I do agree that by Blackthorn filling in the role to literally KILL her was romantic indeed. Tragically as it shows he loves her enough to take her pain/agony away before her passing.
HOWEVER, the CULTURAL belief for them is that sepukku is okay & honourable instead. So there's an interesting contrast there to think about....
But yeah...at least Mariko didnt end up "going to hell" in the end lol
6:23 Ayooo? that subtitle is wild 💀
MARIKO-SAMAAAAAAA 😩😭💔
the subtitles..., i lost my mind went back and checked midway I remembered whose reaction I was watching 🤣
あなたはすごいです ♥
Shinobi were only trying to capture her so it would appear as if she left. She died for 2 reasons, one was because she couldn’t be captured or Crimson Sky would fail, and also because she needed Osaka, and possibly the rest of Japan to turn on Ishido, putting him at a disadvantage. Additionally, since Mariko was a Christian, the rest of the Christian’s are going to turn on Ishido as well.
Toranaga didn't plan for either of their deaths
Even if his son killed his brother he's still in deep shit
Except he has a way to kill all his brothers men with his small army.
Hiromatsu didn't plan with toranaga to kill himself
He read toranaga like a book and acted accordingly
Focus on the subtitles they underline
They have deeper meanings
The Hiromatsu one is pretty clear. They knew each other so well, he read the situation in real time. The son seemed more fortuitous, if tragic, because as you said if he were successful, it would not have aided the larger cause.
Mariko is literally crimson sky. Her plan was to die the entire time
Damn the the time of sorrow has come
Mariko's poem about leafless branches was inappropriate for spring, but it was a jab at Ochiba. Ochiba's name means leafless branch, so Mariko's poem was a dig at her like "I see you, girl what are you doing? This mess won't end well."
R.I.P My favorite character Mariko.
mariko went out with a bang. literally, and metaphorically.
Yooo metro make some fucking beats had me dead😭😭😭 this fucking editor always on point
“He look adopted anyway” 8:57 lmao
She basically committed sepukku, but in a different manner. In the book, one of the ladies in the room made an official statement about it, and the word spread out.
Mariko was the emergency plan all along, and it worked. Wait for episode 10.
Crimson sky : marikos part was to sew decent amongst the lords aka encourage a revolt inside osaka Castle, basically use the high lords to fight for him from the inside with out even realising it ,leaving them all vulnerable and thats when toronaqais going to take the castle, she knew either way that was a one way trip
Honestly the acting in this show is phenomenal! Also cant wait to see Toranaga dripped out in that shogun armor that they hinted at in episode one.
“Knock knock boom boom
john "i'm a pilot, not a pirate" blackthorne understood the assignment
I sense awards for Anna Sawai. She is the mvp actor in this show.
Love how everyone still has their wedding hairdos. Y'all looked so good in the pics you posted. 💜
You guys's hair are amazing!!!!
This show just keeps getting better 😊🤩.
Ishido was trying to capture Mariko alive, not kill her, killing her would be even worse than just letting her kill herself so he'd still fuck himself over doing that, that's why they were trying to carry her away instead of just killing her there which would've been a lot easier. Ishido basically wanted to keep Mariko and the other women as prisoners in secret so that the facade of the nobles in Osaka not being hostages isn't broken, therefore he'd still have the leverage of the hostages stuck in Osaka and wouldn't risk mass rebellion.
"Flowers are only flowers because they fall' = Life is only Life because of Death
Achike Mariko is Crimson Sky
This episode was too quality, jaw dropping stuff. Anna Sawi acting throughout this show, especially this episode, was brilliant. Mariko is awesome character.
This has to be my favorite episode of the series and thats crazy considering how my favorite character died 😢
And the scene btwn Ochiba and Mariko 👌
Crimson Sky was her Emmy nomination all along
they whipping swords out like guns lol
this is how you make a strong woman character in film
And this episode traumatized me and left me and my parent speechless. We picked this back up just today, 3 months after, to finish the season.
You know Lupas stressed when he doesn't say "Daaaayyyuum" during their love making😂
flowers are only flowers when they fall- Mariko
Mariko *was* Crimson Sky
You guys little intro beat is my fav youtuber intro beat. I can't help but move when I hear it.
I’m with roshi on this one, Yabushige became my favorite because he really just wants to live and get what he wants.
I like the way Lady Ochiba speaks, she literally feels like an anime character 😂
I’m a japan history freak but this is one of the very best series I’ve seen for ages… made me realise how crap some shows are lol. Beautifully written and the attention to detail and atmosphere is amazing.
Thx for the reactions… it was an emotional one. Love it❤
all that naginata training and she still can't parry an explosion smh
Sekiro
Yal talkin bout Blackthorne goin off, Buntaro about to become a damn demon…. We already seen him go ham, but wit his pops dead, wife dead, son captive, this man about to be Toji Fushiguro
Nah, “Awesome” playing right after that ending took me out 😭 🤣 lmfao
Your faces right at the end🤣
Mariko even went out declaring herself by her maiden name to punctuate that she was doing this for her family. Is it just me or did the scene with Yabushige and the Shinobi seem similar to Nacho in the Salamanca compound in Better Call Saul?
Guys Yabushige has been flipflopping the whole show, idk how you didnt get how he was letting the enemy in xD
This show is so damn good
Finale better hit after this episode, dont pull a GOT 😂😂
Toying with my emotions! They can't keep getting away with this.
6:23 caught me off guard 😂😂😂😂
That shot through the door after grabbing the shinobiwas sick af
Blackthrone next ep: "Mariko... I can't feel you..."
Still too soon! 😢😢😂😂😂
Peak editing on the subtitles lmao
I was as stressed as you guys were with this episode. I think you guys are the only reactors that felt the same way I felt the entire episode.
That death scene was willlllld
