@@noahdoesrandom The purpose is the same as most of my videos - to show and demonstrate two old electronic devices.
I called it a tutorial because I showed the basic use of the units for my subscribers. This video was never intended for an audience outside of my subscriber base. The fact that it, out of my hundreds of videos, got found by outsiders who are now writing shitty comments because the video was designed for my subscribers and not them is unfortunate.

Oh yay! the MU/MD key :-) Such a powerful tool (if you have need for it).
In most cases you will use the 10-key as a simple add machine with heavy use on the tax+ / tax- keys. But it can do SO MUCH MORE!
My previous comment was about the #/◊ key and a couple ways I have used it. I'm using a Casio DR-210 which doesn't have a GT mode, but has a GT button. Good for long calculations of multiple purchases.
The Mark Up (MU) key is great in helping you determine a retail price based on cost. This can apply in Food or retail. I'll start with the Restaurant Industry.
Let's say you run a restaurant, and you aim to keep your food costs at 22%. You can use this key to calculate the menu price (retail price) of a particular food item. You get a pre-cut 12oz NY strip at $4.15 ea. You want your cost to be 22% and your profit (markup) to be 78% (100-22=78).To determine your retail:
Keystrokes: 4.15 , x , 78 , MU/MD This will now display the minimum retail price to meet your 22% food cost ($18.18). You will still need to account for additional sides you may include with the steak. Let's have a look at this.
    Steak: $4.15 ea
Sides: Potato with butter, bacon, chives, and sour cream - $ 0.96
Sauteed Mushrooms with spinach in white wine - $ 1.05
    Small salad: $ 1.15
    Keystrokes: CA/AC, 4.15, +, .96, +, 1.05, +, 1.15, x, 78, MU/MD
    Reads:
..0.. < AC or CA key > Clears the calculator
4.19 + < 419, + Keys > Adds the numerical value to the addition string.
    0.96 +
    1.05 +
    1.15 +
7.31 x < x key > Prints the Running Total in preparation for Multiplication functions.
    78. M% < 78, MU/MD Keys> Performs MU calculations and prints the % variable entered (78)
25.92 -% < > Continued from MU function, prints the amount of profit at the % entered and retains in string*
33.23 < > Continued...print the retail total (cost + profit) and retains in string*
*Both numbers are retained in the string. You can chose to use either by pressing the + or - Key. Pressing the < - > key will pull the profit amount (22.92) to be used in additional calculations. Pressing the < + > Key will pull the retail amount (33.23) to be used in additional calculations..
    Using Profit amount:
You may wish to determine a total profit using this number. Without hitting AC or CA (clear) or the Total button, Hit the "-" key. This will print the 25.92 amount. You're planning on a menu of 100 people at this price and cost for a guaranteed event (if you run a restaurant, you need to get guarantees and down payments for large parties, especially if you're ordering special items for them. Smaller parties that will be selecting from a normal inventory don't need this as much).
25.92 -% < - Key > Adds the numerical value to the addition string*
    25.92 x < x Key > Prepares the String for multiplication function
    100 . = < 1, 00, = Keys > Tells the calculator the multiplier and requests a total based on simple a x b = c
2,592.00 < > Continued...prints the calculated product and retains in string.
    * the - Key pulls the amount and prepares it for a NEW string.
this is the total amount you will make after FOOD Cost is deducted. You will still need to account for labor, linen, and several other costs to determine your final NET. but this give you a number to start with.
    Using the Retail amount:
You may wish to provide an estimate to the client for the total cost. If your other costs are relatively fixed and you know you really just need to know the food cost to provide an estimate, you can safely create an estimate for a 100 plate party. Let say your policy is to charge the menu price per person, plus a $100 room charge, tax and a 20% gratuity for the server. Don't forget to also calculate these amounts.
33.23 -% < + Key > Adds the numerical value to the addition string*
    33.23 x < x Key > Prepares the String for multiplication function
    100 . = < 1, 00, = Keys > Tells the calculator the multiplier and requests a total based on simple a x b = c
3,323.00 < > Continued...prints the calculated product and retains in string.
    * the + Key pulls the amount and prepares to add to the existing string ($7.31 from above). So if you hit the + a second time it will add 7.31 to 33.23.
You can also use this as a mark down function to determine loss. Let's say you give a client and "All Inclusive" price for a product. Meaning the FINAL cost to the client is, say, $1500.00 for a product. You run a retail store and you pay out commissions on sales in addition to an hourly wage. Let's say the commission you pay is 10% and your local sales tax is 8%. But you need to know the cost of product to the store, and the amount you need to deduct for tax and commission. Well you can't just deducted 18% from the total, because you'd be calculating the percentage on wrong amount. Well let's take this as a perfect chance to use this function:
    1500.00 ÷ < 1500, ÷ >
    18 M% < 18 MU/MD >
    228.81 -%
    1,271.19
$1,271.19 is the retail amount before tax and commission.

The Diamond is a "running total" Key. As you are performing additions, you can print the running total without closing out the series to a total or using the memory functions. Similar to the Grand Total function, without having to switch modes, and works in a running series while keeping the running total on your screen (vs using a total/grand total method). This is useful, for example, when your products are of separate types (Food and Alcohol for example in a Restaurant).
Let's say you have two meals a coffee and a beer, but you need the food and drink totals separate. You would add your meals (15.99 ea), a coffee ($1.95), then subtotal your food, then add the cost of the beer ($4.00) and Total your ticket.
    Key strokes would be: 1595, + , +, 195, +, #/◊, 400, +, * = 37.85
    You ticket will read:
    15.95 +
    15.95 +
    1.95 +
    33.85 ◊
    4.00 +
    37.85 *
With multiple drinks, you won't have a running total of ONLY the alcoholic beverages without using the memory functions or the total / grand total method. *I know this restaurant method may be a bit antiquated now, as most places use an electronic POS to create customer totals, but it's one use.
I'll also sometimes use it in Balancing with check #'s. Lets say I have 3 checks from the week that have yet to be debited from my account. My current balance in $10,000 (I wish), and I have Checks #'ed 1082, 1083, and 1084 for $1,000.00, $220.00, and $55.78 - respectively and a deposit of $500.00 cash I just made and I have an auto payment going from my account tomorrow for $3,000. I'm doing the calculations today.
I would start with the date (in a non-clock printing calculator): 2020.01.01 ◊ to print the date on the header. You can also add something like the last part of the account number: ......1234 ◊. (the decimals will not show on the screen, but when you hit the #/◊ key it will print the number of decimals you typed).
I'll then perform a Clear All or All Clear function to ZERO out the calculator below the header and begin with my balance, then (starting with credits) add my $500.00 cash deposit, create a running total, then the check #, the amount (-), repeat for each check until all checks are entered, create a running total. feed a line or two and add (-) my anticipated debits for tomorrow. Then, finally total my balance.
    It would look like this:
    #2020.01.11
    #......1234
    . . 0 . .
    10,000.00 + < Starting Balance
    500.00 +
    10,500.00 ◊ < Running Balance after Deposit
    #1082
    1,000.00 -
    #1083
    220.00 -
    #1084
    55.78 -
9,224.22 ◊ < Running Balance after checks (what your available balance is)
#2020.01.12 < New Date of Transactions
    1,500.00 -
    7,724.22 ◊ < Running balance, including tomorrow's auto draft.
7,724.22 * < Total Balance when all transactions post.

The Diamond shape is the subtotal key the #/[diamond] key is used for the non-add AND a subtotal, depending on whether or not you have run any actual math functions prior to hitting the key vs just entering a number as a non-add.... If you enter a non-add while you still have an open math function, you'll see the non-add but if you hit the non-add key a second time, you'll see the subtotal of the open math function... On the M keys, the diamond is the subtotal in memory.

I have no experience with machines that use the CR-47 ink roller, but it sounds like the roller just might be really wet with ink, and it will calm down after it's used a little bit. Other than that, maybe it's installed incorrectly?

These are cheap enough on eBay that you might as well just buy a whole other machine.

I was hoping you'd cover how to change the printing ribbon.

    • @themaritimegirl
      @themaritimegirl  Před 5 lety +1

You just pull the spools off, pull the ribbon away from the guides and out of the mechanism, and install the new ribbon, making note of the orientation of the spools and the routing of the ribbon through the mechanism.
