  • A detailed video showing how to add a rear USB port to VW/Škoda’s RCD 330, 340 head units. Gives the front console a much cleaner look without the USB cable dangling from the front USB port.

    Great video. Very helpful, thank you. My T5 transporter now has an external USB port that's out of the way and doesn't disconnect the phone every time I knock the plug when using the touch screen.
    I was lucky when I got down to the board, there were 2 additional unused USB headers on the PCB. Made the soldering job a bit easier.

    Thanks, this is a very clear tutorial and I followed it last night on my wifes RCD 360. Went fairly straightforward but I have noticed a major issue this morning.
    I now have no Bluetooth! When I press 'phone' it just says 'starting phone' but does nothing.
    When I try and speak through Android Auto the mic does not respond.
    I assume I havent reconnected a ribbon cable correctly and will check it again this afternoon but was wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue before?
    Again, thanks for the guide - very helpful.

    • @GaneshBalan
      @GaneshBalan  Před rokem +3

      Hi Brian. Sorry for the late response. Had been on a vacation.
      The RCD 360 is a very finicky device and many claim it to be a ‘fake’ RCD unit. The 340 which ends with the part number 187B with a SD card slot, 3.5 mm aux jack and the USB slot is the genuine 340 unit.
      Did you finally resolve this?

    I was looking for a rear USB solution for my Vento for a long time but all of the other solutions I found needed a retrofit kit. Thank you for coming up with a simple solution.
    I have a question though - I don't see a hole on my RCD case to pull the wire out, neither did I find it in any other videos. Did you drill the hole by yourself? If yes, did you notice any tearing/cracking of the wire in the long run? I have a feeling that the wire might tear when it rubs against the perimeter of the hole over a period of time.

    I also want to have this to be done in my POLO .
    Q1. Have you taken out the head unit after ignition on. I heard that if it has not been done that way then head unit asked for error code?

    Pardon me for asking a query here.
    I am having 2016 Polo Highline 1.2 MPI. Recently I added Blaupunkt Key Largo 970 SV entertainment unit. Currently I am facing an issue where stereo does not power off once the key is removed.
    As a workaround the installation guy added a wire from fuse box using slot 33 which works but sometimes thorws engine light error when I use the 12V socket charger the light goes away automatically. I saw in one of your post on team-bhp using the fuse tap on slot 16 but it doesn't work.
    Could you help to provide information which slots can be used to power off the stereo when the key is remove or not in ACC position.

The service centres which do repairs of audio video equipment. You can find many in Cochin who will help you out. Just show them this clip and they’ll help you.
      As for the USB port, if you want it to be installed on the console, you’ll have to cut a hole and insert the USB socket. Connect the wiring harness which will have 4 cables to the unit. It’s simple.
      Let me know if you have any doubts.

      Don’t see a reason why it shouldn’t. You are essentially adding a parallel USB port to the existing one.

    Can you suggest offline market to buy rcd340?

    • @GaneshBalan
      @GaneshBalan  Před rokem

      Hi, your best bet is Aliexpress and if you’re from India, have it shipped to a friend or relative who’s outside India. Let them forward it to you or hand carry it. Please be sure not to buy the RCD360 which has a microSD card and no Aux jack. The 340 has the USB port, Aux jack and SD card port.

    Hello rcd 340 sound quality poor

    • @GaneshBalan
      @GaneshBalan  Před 7 měsíci

      Hi Deepak, I am not sure what your benchmark of sound quality is but for a stock music system it sounds quite okay. But you cannot compare it to an aftermarket unit from say Pioneer or Alpine as they get better quality DSPs in the unit. See if you can adjust the equaliser in the unit and tune the settings to your liking. Good luck!

    • @GaneshBalan
      @GaneshBalan  Před rokem

      Hi Chaz, no it won’t. But the system won’t recognise the device connected to the front USB port. It only charges the phone.
