    All of the Swedish destroyers were lost in one go, in an accidental explosion while they were tied up to each other. They did not see actual action as Sweden was not a combatant in WW2. Only one of them was permanently lost however, the other two were raised and repaired.

    Two things to mention;1) Japan built alot of large "fleet destroyers" that were formidable surface opponents and in the Long Lance torpedo had one of the best anti-ship weapons but their destroyers had 2 flaws- they were unbelievably vulnerable to air and submarine attack (just Google the submarine USS Harder to see what I mean!).
    2) The Soviets lost 34 destroyers but quite a few of them were to air attack when they had no air cover whatsoever and even then they only sank after taking a real pasting.

    The problem to my mind is that the figures are just the number of destroyers lost, and not the percentage of destroyers that each nation started with, and the percentage of destroyers lost in comparison to the number built during the war. So while the British and Japanese have very high figures for destroyers lost, it doesn’t take into account what percentage this was. So a smaller nation like Greece could lose virtually all of its destroyers, and not build any replacements, whereas Britain could and did lose a large number, but still end up with more destroyers in its service by the close of the war.

      Germany had several classes of large 'Torpedo Boat' which displaced as much, and would have been classified as small to medium sized destroyers in many other navies. Many of the extras likely comes from those ships in part.
      Another is the foreign ships that the Germans captured and pressed into service, which included several destroyers, though most were smaller vessels such as minesweepers and littoral patrol boats.

      Part of the misunderstanding is it very much looks like the larger German Torpedo Boats are included, which is not as stupid as it sounds. The larger German Torpedo Boats were as big as small destroyers in other navies, and in most navies would have been classified as Destroyers despite their relatively poor gun armament.

      April 19, 1951. At a joint session of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, Army General Douglas MacArthur, who occupied and ruled Japan as Supreme Commander of the Allied Powers (SCAP), concluded his half-hour farewell address by saying.
      You have to understand that Japan had a population of nearly 80 million on four small islands.
      'Japan's labor force is potentially the best in terms of both quantity and quality. They built factories, they had labor, but they did not have raw materials. They had no cotton, no wool, no oil production, no tin, no rubber, and nothing else. All of that existed in the waters of Asia."
      If the raw material supply were cut off, there would be 10 to 12 million people unemployed in Japan. That is what they feared. Thus, the motivation that drove Japan to war was largely driven by security needs.
      The audience was stunned. If the testimony is correct, Japan went to war not to invade, but to defend itself. Not only would this undermine the premise of the war as a just war that defeated the aggressor nation of Japan, but it would also make even the Tokyo Tribunal (International Military Tribunal for the Far East) lose its legitimacy.
      More to the point, it could even negate MacArthur's achievement of “democratization” and “demilitarization” during the five years and eight months of occupation and rule of Japan.
      This statement disappointed Republican expectations and provoked outrage. MacArthur's popularity quickly waned, and his presidential dreams were crushed.

      Hitler never understood the value of the Navy (Kriegsmarine). If I were him, I would’ve built more subs and captured the French Fleet in 1940 and turn the Med into his personal swimming pool. That way, Africa would’ve been his.

      Bismarck was a dogshit Battleship for its time. Outdated scheme , overweight , no deck armor couldn't turn and maintain speed. Waste of steel held up by wehraboo propaganda.

    You couldn't find real Destroyers for your video. The ships you use as a model are at least a light cruiser. Do better please I really like your stuff.

      Вот и их топили так легко .

      @@user-ci4xs8sm8nthe Italian navy was the best of its three services. It's torpedo boats and naval special forces were particularly capable. They were not useless.

    Sweden was not a combatant in WWII, Sweden was neutral. You show Sweden with the loss of three destroyers....??

    • @davidkinsey8657
      @davidkinsey8657 Před měsícem

      The Swedish destroyers lost were the Goteborg, Klas Horn and Klas Uggla. On September 17,1941 an explosion of unknown origins on the Goteborg killed 33 sailors and sank all three ships. Look up the Hjarsfarden disaster for more information.

      Yeah, because they were under Vichy French control who were Nazi collaborators & the British didn't want those ships being used by Germany, so they simply had to go as the Vichy French govt refused to surrender them to the Royal Navy.

    • @alganhar1
      @alganhar1 Před měsícem

      1) There were no Dutch Destroyers in Mers-el Kebir. All Dutch ships that had not joined Free Dutch forces were stationed in the Dutch East Indies where most were lost in action against the Japanese in 1942.
      2) The French did not lose 57 destroyers at Mers-el Kebir. The losses there are well documented. So do try not to lie.
