  • I’ve coached 300+ people over the past 3 years AND I’m in the job market myself (unlike majority of other career coaches and recruiters on social media). This what I’ve observed that has actually worked 👆
A tip I forgot to mention is REFERRALS. As long as you have a great resume and you’re a great fit for the role, you’ll have a higher chance for an interview. If you don’t have a great resume, well…you’ll still be SOL 🤷‍♀️
It’s a really tough market!! So it’s time to do things that the majority of people aren’t doing to get ahead.

My main problem is that I don’t really have any skills. I had my degree (economics and statistics) and applied for many jobs and the only interview I would get were for IT related jobs, which I don’t have an interest in, and I don’t have the skills for it. I ended up getting a well paid internship in an IT team but it was during the pandemic and I barely learnt anything. I tried everything I could to at least get training, at least get to another team but they made me stay in a team where there was basically nothing for me to do. Now I work at a restaurant and I’m trying to do a course in my free time to up skill. At this point I don’t know if I’ll ever get a job

For some, it takes time to figure out what your skills and strengths are. Your degree is a great fit for an analyst role, whether data, business, or financial analyst. If I were you, I'd go back to talk to a mentor, manager, or coworker from your IT internship for a career chat and resume review. I highly doubt that someone would hire an intern to do nothing

Domain knowledge means anything that you're an expert in. Let's say you worked as a nurse for 2 years. Your domain knowledge is in nursing and the medical industry. If you decided to learn cybersecurity and switch jobs, then you have an advantage over other applicants when applying to hospital or med tech companies thanks to your domain knowledge.
For myself, I work at a major FinTech company, I've been a content creator for 3 years, and I spent my college internships + 3 years working in manufacturing/supply chain. So my domain knowledge lay in Fintech, creator economy, and supply chain. If I apply to any tech company building products in these niches, I have an easier time to get the job than someone with no domain knowledge or experience in the tech company's niche/industry

Do you use chat gpt to help write cover letters and resumes?

In short, I use ChatGPT as a tool for figuring out what keywords to include in a resume and test a resume against a job description for clients. I don't use ChatGPT for cover letters because it sounds so robotic, no personality
When I've applied to jobs this year, I only write cover letters if a company requires it. Almost no one reads them. A great cover letter isn't going to sway their opinion if the resume doesn't match what they want in a candidate. Referrals are much better than cover letters
My preferred method is finding the hiring manager on LinkedIn (possible to do so for small and medium sized companies) and sending a personalized message about my qualifications, attach my resume, and let them know that I've applied
