Once, many years ago, r/gaming challenged /v/ to a best of five tournament of tribes: ascend on hi-rez's official servers. Both teams had six months to practice before the big game and both trained hard for the big day. Eventually, the day off the big day came, and r/gaming came out swinging. They won the first two games handily, running circles around the /v/ team,. I personally thought /v/ was going to be swept. Game three was close throughout /v/ had found their rhythm and forced overtime, bringing r/gaming to the brink, and inevitably winning that game three. Game four wasn't even close, /v/ dominated the game and r/gaming was shook. They were so rattled they choked game five and /v/ went on to the podium for post game interviews with the tournament organizers, as galo sengan played as /v/'s chosen fanfare. There, the captain in team /v/ dropped a bomb that still resonates to this day: his team bailed on him a few hours before the actual game was supposed to take place, leaving him to go back to /v/ and try to scrounge up a team or else let r/gaming take the win by default. Their top players included a furry troll named skolfypaws, and a Brazilian sniper who was playing with a 600 ping, he even told us that the sniper had to learn to aim behind his opponents to compensate for the intense lag. So while r/gaming had a team of trained players, organized strategy, and awesome hardware, they still lost to a ragtag team of /v/irgins hastily scrambled together approximately half an hour before game time with no prior practice or strategy. It's been many years since the triumph of the shazbowl, but there is one thing I know deep the cockles of my heart: reddit is STILL mad as fuck.
