I realize this is just a conversation, but I've heard this topic have a peak of JuJu "will" or "probably will" break the record. Could she at this point, sure. However, to say anything more this early is oversimplification. First, Caitlin's freshman year was cut short by 4 games due to shortened Covid schedules (this was per NCAA the year after the tournaments were canceled). Setting that aside, JuJu has 811 and Clark 3771 heading into this year's tournament. Assuming your team reaches the NCAAs each year, you are guaranteed 2 postseason games and could have as many as 9-10. This is a lot of variability. Iowa played 12 total B1G tournament games in Clark's 4 years and has played 10 NCAA tourney games before this season. You could say JuJu is ahead of pace since she has more points than Clark (a gap that could widen another 30-150 depending on tourney games). However, Clark is now tied for the highest career scoring average ever at 28.4 points. (JuJu is at 27.0 PPG right now). Assuming that 2,960 point gap holds, JuJu would need to average nearly 1,000 points over the next 3 seasons. To put that in context, Clark became the only player ever with two 1,000 point seasons this year (and will likely pass Plum for best scoring season ever). There have only been 25 seasons of 908+ points in NCAA WBB and only 7 seasons of 1,000 plus (inc. the 2 by Clark). Clark is also the only woman to ever lead the NCAAs in scoring 3 times (and finished 2nd to Siegrist last year). My point with all of this isn't to say it couldn't possibly, but to say that JuJu would have to match a pretty heft list of singular or very rare achievements to get there. JuJu has scored a lot as a freshman, but it isn't a top 40 season in WBB at this point. Clark will likely finish between 3,850-3,920 points depending on how far Iowa makes it. That's 350-400 points more than Plum and 200-250 more than Maravich (who had the highest D1 total for more than 50 years).

Hey guys let’s celebrate Caitlin now and JuJu when she gets there. We’ll end up celebrating both.

Recently 17 points. Yesterday she had 9. It is premature to speculate on JuJu can surpass Caitlin Clark.

While I am a lifelong fan of USC and a HUGE supporter of our South Central Los Angeles hometown girl Juju (just like Caitlin's Iowa hometown roots for her), I dont think she will break Caitlin's record. If her parents could afford the $45,000.00 per year tuition for her at Sierra Canyon HS, then they are probably not hurting for money. I think she is going to leave USC early and MAX play only 3 years before opting to go pro (WNBA, China and Russia leagues). While she'll earn more money from NIL while in college than she'd make on WNBA rookie contract, I think the lure of fame, fortune and the LA lights will cause her to leave early. ESPECIALLY if the Sparks will have the #1 pick. She will be 2-3 and done in college. Caitlin's records are never going to be broken.

In 2023, Antonie Davis at Detriot Mercy came within 4 pts of breaking Pistol Pete's career record.
The fact that this recent historical fact was completely underreported and Ant Davis isnt given any reconition is eye-opening and shows the power of positive media...

She only missed maybe 5 games extra games. Covid shutdown the tournament that’s it. She still played a full regular season.

@@howarddickersonjr.6994It's still true. People been crying endlessly that Maravich only played 3 seasons. Can't call out where Clark was shorted, nah, only Haterade.

Being great player has nothing to do with skin color. It has to do with skill ,hard work, determination and heart.

Love Juju's fadeaway and great athletic finishes. She should be able to improve her shooting percentage, but it will be tough to raise her ppg without disrupting team offense/goals. To help her team her focus should shift towards improving her low assists (3apg). With the number of double teams she commands she will either learn to dish and create more game for her team mates or she will be doubled and suffer in scoring.

I have never seen so much reluctance from so many media outlets to just accept this young lady's exceptional performance . Seems like so many want an asterik attached to her accomplishments . Just like politics . as soon as the race is over then they start on projecting the next star .

I don't believe she will. It takes consistent scoring and staying healthy. Doesn't matter she average the same or more the caitlin. Gonna have to make deep runs in post-season as well. Caitlin lost games to covid, so she should have more than she does.

No - wonky math. First, Clarks career is 28.4, so...At Juju's 27ppg (& equal this tourney), Juju will need an additional 21 post season games over 3 years. That's 7 extra games, ex. the BIG Championship (as a 2 ) & Elite 8 each year (or an equivalent avg.). So the question becomes-
    1. Will Juju improve her ppg average? or 2. Will USC be an elite 8 team, on average, for the next 3 years? (this is really unlikely)
Always check the math of people's claims (in all things) Math notes below:
    27ppg * 30 games = 810 points, today's total. 810 * 4 years = 3,240 total points
Caitlin Clark, at the same 30 games for this year, currently has 3,771 total points
This leaves Juju 561 points short. 561/27 ppg = 21 games (nearly)
We assume that Clark and Juju equate this year - for today's purpose, although either could add 150 more than the other (with one exiting the first round and the other going to the finals). Assume equal tourneys then Juju has 3 years to make up the 21 game deficit (at 27ppg) 21/3 = 7 games per year. If Juju broke the record at 27ppg it would mean 2 things. 1. USC was great, making huge runs 3 years in a row in both tourneys. 2. She only broke the record because Clark was deprived of Covid era games (up to 6).

I'm an Iowa fan. Juju is a phenom and I can't wait for USC to join the B1G. Juju got in PAC12 chip game a taste of what CC has faced the last 3 years. Teams selling out too stop her.
Juju is fun to watch and if she does break CC'S record Caitlin will be cheering for her.

  • @destinypirate
    @destinypirate Před 3 měsíci +2

Math red flag was, while reading this "Caitlin projected to finish with 3,744 points " while, today, already, Clark has 3,771 points. The other is the "average for the month of February" - this is top heavy cherry picking. Juju scored 50 in one game. With just 9 games in February an outlier game of 50 - against 9 games, added 5.5 points per game. Taking out the the cream of half of the 50 point game then Juju would have a Feb average of 28, which is great....but does not equate to the suggested pace.

His record was not broken. His playing time was 3 years not 4. They did not have 3 point line they did not have a time limit. The opposing team could slow the speed of the game down.

Juju is great. Needs to work on going to her left. That’s how they have been shutting her down recently. I’m rooting for her. Great young lady from a modest background.
