    As a non-Indian and non-Hindu person who adores this channel & South East Asian culture, I don’t understand why the first groom would agree to a Hindu ceremony then insist on pushing his Western/Christian ideals on the bride, the ceremony & her culture. If he wanted her to wear white, why not have both a Western ceremony and Hindu ceremony separately? It came across as tone deaf and a little dismissive of the bride and her mom.

      Not only that, but a LOT of Western brides wear blush/pink bridal gowns. So even the one she initially chose is within a reasonable color palette of what he has probably seen before. So that first one was already a perfect midpoint and she absolutely loved it. Like...what is the big deal my dude?

      I agree that he was too pushy. I'm glad the brother was great and came up with the compromise of 2 dresses. It has to be scripted to some extent, and needed some tension so viewers would watch. She seems quite assertive, and theres no way he would have gotten away with his persevering the white dress except for a script. Also i think they are quite well matched with levels of assertiveness and ability to argue successfully for their own point of view. Best wishes to l couples on this show!!

    The funny thing is - the first bride's two outfits weren't very different in color. I know she kept calling it the pink outfit and the other one white, but it was such a LIGHT pink, almost white, while the "white" one had plenty of blush accents, I thought they were more similar than not. And plenty of American brides have off-white or ivory or even blush, that her first outfit was definitely already in that color palette. It kind of felt like they were arguing about not much difference. (Unlike the second bride whose two outfits were *very* different!)

      I know right! They were both almost white, and, in my opinion, both lacked colour. I would have liked more colour- like a pastel coral, lavender, ice blue, burnt orange-any colour. My favourite in this episode was the forest green one.

You can't possibly confuse white mourning outfit and ivory/pastel beaded, embroidered, bling out with gold, silver and bunch of other colors wedding outfit. It's the same with black dress in western culture. You won't be wearing black with other colors, bling, deep plunge, or ultra mini dress to the funeral. Some thing go without saying. When two cultures come together in marriage, there is always one that will need to compromise. I remember a woman who came in to find a nonconventional wedding dress on Say Yes To The Dress, preferably a “Steam Punk” style. She didn’t want a white dress, but something different than traditional. They found this beautiful eggplant gown that was absolutely stunning on her. Her mother and friends fought her to try and change her mind, but in the end she got what she wanted. So no matter what others want, a bride needs to feel that love for her dress, no matter what culture you come from.

      Just to correct u, red is not the “traditional” color in weddings. In many Indian sub cultures, red or maroon used to be worn by widows. Also, in more than 3 cultures in India, white or cream color is bridal color. U can research Gujarat, west Bengal and south India. You will find brides with white/pearl color saree with red border. Or in south India- cream color sari with golden border.
      So having a cream color dress in ‘not out of Indian culture’
      Indian cultures are not narrow as “red is tradition color” which is always portrayed in this show. There are many colors including white/cream which are considered traditional by different sub-cultures in India

    I usually take the groom's side because too many brides turn into bridezillas these days. However, the first groom just annoys me. I'm Armenian and I'm Christian, there can't be any whiter than that. Yet if I marry an Indian man I will most definitely honor his culture and family traditions as much as mine. I get that your traditions are just as important for you but their culture perceives white as a color of grief. Why would you insist on her going forward with it? I mean, it's her dress and wishes too. For years she must have fantasized about wearing a colorful wedding outfit. Can't she have that? You marrying her means you vow to honor her culture too. There are ethnicities with much different and stricter traditions. If you go as far as marrying a person from such ethnical background you should be ready to adopt her culture as well. This goes for women too. Also, there is no need to be rude to your partner if you disagree with them, especially in front of other people. Just because he insists you wear white doesn't mean you should shut him down rudely.

      "The priest won't accept that dress, it's too white...." My question is, rather than the dress, why would the priest accept a white non-hindu man as the groom? If Sean came from a Christian background, it WOULD be important for him that the dress be white. Come on people, see it from both sides. Recommendation: before you go to buy your dress, get it straight beforehand what the plan is, rather than hash it out in front of your in-laws/parents.

    • @searchingsoul1728
      @searchingsoul1728 Před 2 lety +3

      @@susannahfox7188 Hindus don't believe in conversion. So, unlike Islam, Christianity, Judaism, and Catholicism, where typically the religious leaders will traditionally NOT perform the wedding ceremony unless the one that is not of their denomination is converted, Hindu priests will NEVER ever ask for a conversion. There is a lot of variety in Hindu beliefs; so within Hinduism, you have a lot of people coming together with different beliefs.
      But, a Hindu priest will never do things that are "upshukan" aka bringing bad luck to the bride nor advocate it.
      If the girl wears white or black or blue, in reality, the priest wouldn't have said anything like "I refuse to do this wedding..."
      (My family is from that priest subgroup, so I know.) But the parents will ask the priest what needs to be done and there are things he will list out. The dress color is not one of them BUT it's a common understanding that the priest does not need to spell out. If the girl suggests black or white to the priest, the priest might suggest avoiding them.
      It's not as stern as the other religions I listed above.

      @@searchingsoul1728 I was not referring to the need for conversion in my post. And I would not say that at least in Christianity, that it is mandatory for a conversion to occur (especially in these end times). I used to practice vedic astrology, so I understand the idea of searching for "good luck" via a color or a gemstone, or a pendant. I no longer practice this, as I have made changes in my life. Astrology is considered a sin in Christianity. I have repented of it. What's most important is one's relationship with the one true God (not many small gods as some believe). What's also most important is where your eternity will be spent, as opposed to trying to have "good luck" in the earthly existence. It is temporary, and we are just pilgrims passing through. In Christianity, the marriage is symbolic of the real marriage that will occur between the bridegroom (Jesus) and his bride, the church. The book of Revelation talks about wearing clean white linen for those who have accepted him through the free gift of grace, and believe he is who he says he is. This is the underpinning for a Christian marriage. The husband loves his wife, (she was taken from one of his ribs after all in the first marriage) as God loves his church. They become one. The wife respects her husband. We have only one priest who intercedes for us.....Jesus Christ. He is coming back very soon for his bride. Earthly priests are an oxymoron. Even in Christian churches. Blessings to you.

These days, in the era of internet, it's so easy to spot the difference between mourning outfits in both cultures, them being solid black or solid white, comparing them to festive outfits in the same basic color but entirely different cut, lots of bling and the entire palette of different colors included. Once you put bling and other colors on a white or black dress and make them show lots of skin, they are no longer mourning outfits. They are festive one. Besides, light pastel lehengas are very in in India lately and some of them are barely more than off white, but still not white and with so many details and work that they can't be mistaken for mourning white, plane and simple clothing.
