I have one of these cars, same color. The correct factory designation is E24. A short shift kit is easy to fabricate which I did for my car. Now it is waiting for a high performance engine.

What he was saying is that its an E12 BASED car. Not an actual E12. E24 from 76-81 are E12 based. 82-89 are E28 based.
