Rachel O'Leary I’m setting up a brand new tank. It is a 41.8 gallon corner tank. I’ve properly fallen in love with the corydoras pygmaeus. Do you think they would enjoy a jungle style planted aquarium? How many would you recommend for that size tank? Do you have a recommendation for a larger more colourful, very peaceful fish that would get along with these guys? Something to just get one or two of to add some visual variety.
Auto correct is worse.. love the pygmaeus.
Hi Rachel.I need your help.I have watched your video about Neon Green Rasbora(Sundadanio margarition Green).A local fish store has received these guys and MOSQUITO RASBORAs Are they breedable?. Have you bread them.
@Fabian Fisher instablaster ;)
Do the dwarf Cory’s uproot plants like their larger cousins? Which of the three dwarfs are safest with plants?
OH GOODNESS ME!!! I looooooove corys, especially the tiny ones! I said yesterday that I only had pygmaeus but then low and behold I went to the store last night at they had habrosus!!! LESS THAN $2 each! Such a steal. They only had 10 but I took them all. Eventually they’ll live with my pygmaeuses and I hope the school :3 I don’t know if I’ll ever get hastatus. They’re $9 each near me
Yes, show me EVERYTHING
😏
Rachel, Im from Brazil and a great fan. Your book of nanofish is one of my favorite and Im going through the 5th re-reading! (Great pastime!) Ironically, here in southeastern Brazil it is very dificult to find nano corys in the market, only Hastatus from time to time. They are considered rare and still expensive for their size. Keep posting videos, please, we miss you!
You found any? I'm also from Brazil and cannot find any Corydoras pygmaeus, only some old advertisement
Show us everything pls!
I have pygmaus myself but love all three, i had salt and peppers before and would like to have again.
Hot dang! Look at your figure. You go girl! You are an amazing person. Between the fish and watching you transform there’s always something to keep our attention. I hope you and your family are well.
Yes, please show us details of tubbing set up, planting, stocking, etc. You make it look SO easy!
Love to see the veg planting too
Actually, out of all fish, C. Habrosus are my favourite. Each individual has a personality & seeing them 'fight' cherry shrimp over pellets is the best thing ever. Ps - some gardening content would be great! 👍
Pygmy. They are just so stinking cute. They just seem like such happy little guys
I just got one little Pygmy Cory and I’m in love!!
Going back to the fish store tomorrow to buy more because I didn’t know they like to be with their own kind. I have him with orange neos but I think he’ll be thrilled to have a few of his tank mates with him tomorrow!!
Thanks for letting us know they like to be together!!
So how are your corys?
I think I like the habrosus the best. I have black sail Cory’s and they look almost like a smaller size of them. I love watching them snuffle along the bottom.
As for content ? I think you are such a knowledgeable person, I would watch whatever you post just to check it out and get all the knowledge you share in all of your videos!
You’re so busy and maintain such a great family life. You’re an inspiration and a breath of fresh air !
Keep up the great work!
One of the nicer things about these little guys is how easy they are to breed. You don't even have to remove the adults of any of the three species from the breeding tank if you don't want to because they will not eat their eggs or fry. My Habrosus spawn ALL the time. On plants, the aquarium glass, air lift tubes... all over the place.
How could you ever choose a favorite, all three are so adorable! All updates over summer tubs would be wonderful! Thanks Rachel!!
I have and love the pygmaeus. They are always everywhere in the tank. I have a group of nine but I agree with you on bigger groups. Thanks again🐠
I've had all 3 at different times, and it's difficult to choose a favorite. I love them all but if I was forced to pick one, I'd go with pygmaeous. I love that it has the appearance of a cory, but has such wonderful mid-water wiggling behavior. In my mind, from a distance hastatus looks more like a member of the Cyprinidae family and habrosus is just a smaller version of the typical cory. Great video and I can't wait to see your summer tubs.
I don't know about others, but I would love to see your gardening exploits Rachel. 💞🌱
I like seeing it ALL...fish, houseplants, outdoor plants and flowers, the bog garden, algae, shrimp, Abby's diving, Chris's metal art sculptures...just videos of life in all it's wonderous facets and forms.
Definitely into the summer tubbing videos, I'm pretty stoked about all your projects and love the inspiration. Thanks
A few weeks ago I changed the grind in my aquarium to sand in order to make my aquarium comfortable for Corydoras. A few days ago I got 10 pygmy cory's and I love them! Very cute, active, playful, peaceful schooling fish :) ! And very nice that I could easily have ten schooling fish in my 60x30x30 cm aquarium along with my other fish and shrimp. They're not scared, even get very close to the big Ancistrus. I checked out at my aquarium store if my cory's were in danger, but they told me it was totally fine.
I have a 20 gallon aquascaped tank with about 12-15 Cardinal tetra & a oto cat. For the longest time my cardinals & oto cat would just hide in either back corner of my tank. It was frustrating because they never came out from behind my jungle Val's & rotella & we barely them. But then I added 8 s&p Corey's to my tank & they're so active that they encourage the cardinals & oto cat to come out of hiding & play. The carts seemed to have convinced the other fish that the tank was safe. That's what I'm guessing. But thanks for another great video. I watched it before I bought my s&p habrosus. Cutest fish I've ever owned lol
the habrosus looks gigantic until the otocinclus comes and scoots next to him at which point i was like "WOW THATS A GIANT OTO" then i realised....
Came for the nano species, stayed for the tubs! I'm really in love with the tubbing since I Found out on your channel! (Now I'm secretly dreaming of a big glasshouse with lots of (sub) tropical plants, lots of exotic butterflies and moths, aquaria, terraria and paludaria! Dreaming never hurts, right? Already starting to take notes for the future maybe!) Thanks for all the incredible valuable information! You rock! 🤘
Rachel I Love your channel! You are so inspirational! I come to your channel for everything about nano fish! Keep it up!!!
Yes! I love when you set up the summer tubs in the green house. I would love to see you set up a hydroponic type tub with the micro fish species.
Amazing dwarf corys ...
BUT WOW YOU HAVE ORANGE LASERS THEY ARE SO COOL
My gf loves her Habs. We have a group of three there so tiny in a nano setup right now they are busy bees 🐝 we love them
I think summer tubbing and related stuff is part of you Rachel. Most subscriber Im sure are glad that you share this with us. I personnaly love everything you do and Im always happy to see new stuff or even learn new stuff. You have to do what you love first. :)
I say show us the whole shebang. I'm a life sciences nerd so I will watch all of the content with glee. Also, bonus points for any excuse to work "caudal peduncle" into everyday conversation. Because "fish ankles" is just scientifically incorrect. 😅
Hey, not to sound rude but, your weight loss is so inspiring! I've been watching your vids for a while but ive noticed how slim you've gotten! Love you, keep up the great work
i love the pygmaus the best. looking forward to tubing vids. thanks for what you do.
Your summer tubbing videos have got me inspired to get my own greenhouse rolling, and also to try my hand at tubs! Love these quick updates, and I just adore those tiny catfish!! 😍
Love my pygmies. They're such a joy.
i've got habrosus and i've noticed theres a severe lack of content about them here on youtube!! they're such adorable characters
>"six is a common school for these(pygmaeus)"
I WANT A MILLION OF THEM
Omg the pygmaeus corys are so wiggly and cute! I have a 10g with 8 white clouds and I really want to add a school of Pygmy corys if I can find them. I know it’s a small tank for all that plus snails and shrimp, but I’ve got it well planted and zoned so there should be space for everyone. I just think I might be better off leaving it as a white cloud and shrimp breeding tank, kinda feels like the added level of predation might keep anything from breeding super well in a smaller tank
Thank you Rachel, I plan to get myself a bunch of small corys and seeing all 3 of them in one video was very helpful
Yes!! I want to see it all! And I love the word "caudal peduncle" @ 2:23. That needs to be said more.
Its a fun one!
I have a school of 10 Corydoras Hastatus. They're just so freaking cute I couldn't resist them and mine are gregarious and really out there, not shy at all
I have 7 habrosas with 4 Otocincli and several other rasboras. So much fun to watch! I don't think there's a cory i don't like 🤷♀️
You really know your stuff!
I was gonna get the habrosus, but after watching this and a couple other videos I think I might get some of the first pygamy cory for my nano tank, just because they swim mid water, and are so friendly and wiggly. Planted tank, with lots of plants, little hiding spots in castles, and terra cotta pots. Just a couple friendly guppies, shrimp, and a snail, so they should feel safe.
Personally I just love the salt and peppers. I had a few of them a few years ago with some pandas. Just love the way how the smaller corry's graze together.
I enjoy the reports in the greenhouse. You have an awesome one! Enjoy the wiggles, too.
I see you have apisto with em. Thanks for answering what nobody else seemed to have info about.
I only pair apistos with cories of any kind in 55g or larger
I like the thought of watching fish and plants and gardening videos.
Oh, I don't know. Hmm which one. The wiggliest? Probably that pygmaeus, but I dunno, those habrosus wiggle so well too.
Hi Rachel,
Absolutely love your videos and am really enjoying your planting of your tubs.....
Very excited to see them completed!!!!
Keep up the great work.....
Well I have only kept 1/3 of these which is the hasbrosis and I have only have these for about a week I have kept 1 of the other two but that was with a couple of guppies that it was scooped up with
Like the green house tutorals. Looking to breed (now retired) and like the idea of utilizing plants and poss aquaponics. As for cories, not much info given regarding (besides looks) which also add functionality, which get along in a normal mixed tank. Thinking the bottom dwellers win for cleaning assistance plus the multiple variations that can be obtained. But, there is likely things I am not taking into account. Still learning, and thanks for doing the vids.
I agree each kind is super on their own merits. Were I to put money down right now, I’d have to go with the salt & pepper cories. Most because I don’t yet have any bottom feeders in my largest (45 gallon) tank.
Gotta go with the pygmies if I’m choosing out of those three. Although I don’t know if they’re my favorite overall.
Hasbrosis are my favourite of the three in looks and behavior
My favorite is the salt and pepper bottom dwelling cory. I just find them more entertaining scurrying around the subtrait like little vacuum cleaners. I'm also interested in your outdoor garden tubs and greenhouse videos. I would like you to continue to video those. I'm excited for you and all your spring activities. Hope your family is doing better.
The salt and pepper ones are my favorite but I do have pygmy Cory's as well and love them too
Habrosus - I just think they look cuter and they still have the that typical cory face :)
Oh wow! They're so cuuttteee. I used to want to have pygmy cories, but I never see them in the store at my place lol.....sad
Please continue to show us the plants
I have 12 pygmy cory and I live them... they look like playing and poking my green pencilfish and it is funny to watch! And for the green house, anything that touch plants I'm interesting! And I'm sure I will learn a tons!!!😁
I originally wanted habrosus cory. Got the pygmaeus by mistake. 12 of them. Went back and got 10 more. LOVE THEM. And they are loving their heavily planted 120g. Probably the better choice for me for my parameters.
Awesome stuff Rachel, I recently picked up some habrosus, my lfs had all 3, that was a head scratcher! I love the habrosus, nothing better than seeing them go nose deep in the substrate with the wiggliest tail ever all over the bottom of my tank, great species!
Love these fish I purchased a group last week and want them in all my tanks now. Very cool little fish. Thanks for another GREAT video!
I still like the Pygmy's better.
Love watching all the tubing video's...just find it so very interesting....
Thanks Rachel....
They are so cute! Habrosus used to be my favorite because I love their coloration, but seeing pygmaeus schooling in midwater is just too adorable. I cant really decide, I think when I get a tank imma have to get both. I love all those wiggly little pups. I honestly dont known why the "cleanup crew" species are all so amazing. Unfortunately, a tank with just cories, kuhlis, and shrimp would prob get a bit bottom-heavy. I might try it anyways
from your descriptions, im leaning towards the pygmaeus
Evil! Making choices between three adorable types of fish!? As for picking.. The pygmy because they are just so fantasticly adorably cute. Been thinking to add those to my honey gurami pair Romeo and Juliets tank actually :)
Have salt and pepper..would love more....have Pandas too...all corys are cute to me...
I love how much I learn watching this!
Habrosus! So adorable! What is that lovely cichlid cruising by?
Oh my!!! This is hard, I can’t choose, I like all three
So much more of this! This is the best part of your channel I love when you’re outside!
I look forward to every video you make!
One fish related topic I would like to learn more about is Mimicry.
They're all impossibly cute, but the Hastatus takes it for me with those big dark eyes. 😊
Pygmeaus, especially when breeding - awsom :-D
I’m super interested in what’s going on in your yard and green house! Show us everything 😊
Gotta love them, as well as the Aspidoras spp.
I would love to see some more in depth updates on the plants you mentioned at the beginning!
Thank you so much for continuing to show us your amazing fish room, greenhouse, bog gardens and tubs as well as your chicken and other critters (they include the human once ;P )! Please continue to regularly update us with the tubbing in the greenhouse! maybe do more underwater footage this year of what is happening with your plants and fish underwater inside your greenhouse tubs!?
Before where I used to keep several aquarium, I had a school of 10 Cory. pygmaeus and I truly fell in love with them ever since! Now that I'm back in the Hobby I so wish to have a school of them again!!! Maybe I'll try out the other two dwarf species!!!
Rachel I love plants as well as fish. But do what you enjoy doing the most, and what is handiest for you.
Of all the corys for some reason the pandas are still my favorite. They make me squee every time and I could sit and watch their little butts wiggle for hours LOL. I keep them in my bedroom tank and I've noticed at night instead of watching TV I watch my little pandas before I go to bed.
I just purchased some of the salt/pepers.........this group does not have the lateral line at all but more of just blotchy areas..guess they have mixed genetics in the way they are being bred or captured..........i have looked here on youtube to exactly identify mine but i think they may be a sub set of the ones in your video...odd but hey...thats nature i guess.............................Thanks Rachel......Bob
Salt and Pepper Cory (Habrosus), Pygmy Cory (Pygmaeus), Peppered Cory (Hastatus). Sounds like you have a Peppered Cory(Hastatus) often confused with the Salt and Pepper because their common names are similar. Yours wasn’t on this particular video but I’ve seen them and they’re just as cute.
Sorry, was in a hurry and made some typos….your Corys are Peppered Corys (Paleatus), not Salt and Pepper (Habrosus).
I’m late to this video, but I really enjoying your knowledge and content on these little fish. I vote for the Pygmaeus corydoras, I have two, purchased just before lockdown, lost two 😢 then we couldn’t find any more to increase the numbers. But my two are doing well 6 months on, and by giving them their own tank with my three elderly shrimp they have begun to breed, we’ve got 5 babies, I’m thrilled and hoping mum and dad will continue to increase their numbers. So anything you can tell us about these wonderful little fish I’d be very glad to know.
I would LOVE to watch your veggie patch grow alongside the fish! Your bins would be PERFECT to do some rain gutter gardening (or similar set up)! Here's one of my favorite cowboys talking about his set up! czcams.com/video/NyOIRVjatdg/video.html YAYYY Permaculture!! I have a legit question though...Are all your tubs on a single massive air pump or do you have smaller pumps scattered throughout the greenhouse to get the bubbling going? Thanks as always and enjoy the season!!
One of Your best videos so far! Thank you
My favorite is the pygmy. Since I don't have any experience with any of those species I can't really make reasonable decisions but I like their stronger schooling-behavior and I think I have a weakness for fish with a dark strip down their side, especially when they have this red kind of shimmery appearance. So for me it's mostly the look which made them win.
Happy to see veggies too.
I love catfish so much they've got so much personality
I have 2 out of the 3 and love them just the same .. the only reason I don't have all 3 is because the "Hastatus" are harder to come by.
Awesome corys!!! Thanks for sharing!!
I have both habrosus und pygmaeus and I love them both unfortunately my pygmaeus are little scaredy cats and hide almost all day, but sometimes I sit in front of the tank for half an hour in darkness just because seeing the whole school come out is a magical sight. I hope to move them to a larger tank at some point and be able to get a school of 50 or so to see that behavior all the time. The habrosus are always out and looking for food and I agree they are the wiggliest of them all. Funny that we have such different experiences with the species. My school of pygmaeus is 10 and my habrosus is only 5 because I got them from a hobbyist who didn't have more and I haven't found any more yet. Maybe I'll get to breed them to increase their school. Love pygmy cories though. Thanks for introducing me to them a while back and to nano fish in general!
Whoa, I didn't know habrosus WASN'T a mid-water schooler. I thought all 3 of the "pygmy" corys were. I was thinking of getting a group of panda corys for the bottom my 20L, but if can go smaller better! Now I have to see where I can pick up some Corydoras habrosus.
Love the Salt and pepper ones at the bottom
I have both Corydoras pygmaeus and Corydoras habrosus and love them both, but the pygmaeus is definitely more outgoing and a mid-layer fish, where habrosus is a bottom-layer dweller and not as personable. My Betta took lethal objection to the pygmaeus - :( He was fine with my emerald corys.
I have no idea why but my cpds killed all my pygmy Cory's. I've never seen them even attempt to attack anything else.
Love your knowledge. Fantastic
I just ordered the salt'n'pepper i wanted the pygmy but seeing this video changed my mind
Hello from Costa Rica! I own more than ten habrosus and used to own a lot of Pygmy Corys which I managed to reproduce. Couldn’t keep the fry alive though 😢
Thank you for making this!! I'm starting a little 17 gallon cube tank, and I'm looking for a small type of Cory that mostly hangs out on the bottom, so I think I'm going to go with the habrosus! ❤️❤️
This video came at a perfect time as I am currently setting up a new tank and am trying to decide between habrosus and pygmaeus. I'll probably go with habrosus for this tank though since I would like to see the typical cory behavior. They are both really cute though.
