I can't believe they initially wanted Stiller to wear a bald cap. The fact that George went bald so young---while Frank still had a full head of hair---made the dynamic between the father and son characters even funnier.

Keary jon Botley not true. It’s a myth. And in my family all of the men in my mother’s side have dark hair and went bald at an early age and my brothers and I are are 25, 28, and 32 and have no signs of balding all have bright blonde hair like our dad.

All the comical twists & turns.. everyone involved with the show had a " sense of humor ".

my fav is when Georges mother is coddling him because hes a hand model....so she asks him if he wants banana's in the jello, "No Bananas inside the jello" "GEORGE LIKES THE BANANAS" "THEN LET HIM HAVE BANANAS ON THE SIDE!!!!"

Stiller was TV Gold as Costanza. Never a dull moment. He really carried many scenes. Every holiday we still joke about "Festivus".
My father *loves* Festivus! Especially how it starts: "The airing of grievances!"

Stiller said in another interview how Michael Richards said, of the pole, to "drag it across the floor---it will be funnier." Stiller pulls off scenes like he isn't acting at all! That's why he is such a good actor!
That episode just doesn't get old!

In many ways he's better as Spooner than Costanza. As Spooner his character is very deep and complicated. As Costanza he was just loud and crazy. Both great characters but if I had to choose the better it would be Spooner.

Yeah, cause his screen time in Seinfeld wasn't that much as in King of Queens, where he was one of the main members of the cast. With more time Costanza would have had more depth.

Sharp as a tack and always a consummate professional. He never broke character, not even during the bloopers.

Insight into the genius that is Jerry Stiller. Frank Costanza and Arthur Spooner are and forever will be two of my favorite all-time tv characters.
Seriously one of the sweetest guys ever to appear on TV: I think we loved Frank so much because we knew the real person underneath was so wonderful :-) he kept the show crazy-fun

Great actor and he never broke in a scene. You laugh at any one scene by itself across the entire series. It probably is the greatest comedy series ever.

He and his wife Anne Meara did a great duo stand-up in the Ed Sullivan days. Ben and his sister did a debut on one show. It's on CZcams.
Gleason & Carney were great but Jerry Stiller just had perfect timing & delivery.
Maybe when they were on the game show Tattletales. But even on that they were good.

I can always feel that they all enjoyed each other. Their scenes were so natural yet hilarious and they were such a good team. It allowed so many jokes to land and all the characters were so strong

Comedic actors don’t get the acclaim they deserve. This guy is talented and connects with the audience. Yea, I know it’s comedy, but he has a gift.

vaadaenmacchi I was a bit annoyed hearing about her ask if she could hit Jason; it’s like she didn’t get it. She was amidst real comedians. I imagine her being oblivious to the real genius happening throughout the creative process.
The funniest thing on the show by a mile - His presence would have my in stitches.
when i was little, i had a drama teacher who did broadway plays and one thing she always used to say to us was “whatever the play called for, you just figured it out and had to do”. she used to talk about learning entire pages in minutes and having to memorize and perform it right then and there, and whenever I see these guys talk i always think about that. Especially when he said Jason Alexander told him to not be afraid to hit him lol. the best thing that this show ever did was cast actors with a theatre background. They’re all incredible actors and you can see the influence literally from the 1940s and 1950s and probably even before, all over the show.

It cannot be emphasized enough how much Stiller brought to the comedy of the program....and to think he passed the first time it was offered him.

It's funny (watching behind the scenes) how directors/producers wants a character to go 1 way but a great actor takes it a different way and makes it a million times better.

Jerry Stiller’s instincts were spot on. Also Jason Alexander asking Jerry to whack his head was great advice too. Writers & Directors are important, but a truly creative set allows actors to have their own input to their characters. Often times it makes the writing & directing even better. It seems the set of Seinfeld had that kind of trust & openness which made the show a true classic.
