I've started learning banjo after playing guitar for many years, and I couldn't decide whether to learn clawhammer and play the old-time music, a sound that I'm drawn to, or learn the scruggs style and play impressive sounding bluegrass. Scruggs picking does my head in after travis picking, and I thought I would be limited to the more simplistic arrangements for clawhammer - this has prove me completely wrong and blown my mind. Not only the fantastic rhythmic sound of clawhammer, but you're able to play breakneck speed bluegrass licks. This shows there is no real speed limitation for clawhammer, if you can play fast and clean enough. You've made up my mind on what I want to learn.
Man this is the fastest and best version I've ever head! - and it's the Appalachian style of playing which makes it so cool. Faster and better than the Scruggs three finger version imo. Well done lad
Awesomely efficient and clean, so little - if any wasted movement in your picking hand. Question for you, are you wearing finger picks? It doesn't look like it but it's hard to tell because it's all a blur haha. Keep it up dude, you're great.
@@Heathharris508 That's not how it works, bro... Clawhammer tabs and 3 finger Scruggs Bluegrass tabs are two totally different animals. Yeah, the general notes are the same but have to be attacked in different ways to get the same sound from two different styles. I'm learning both the clawhammer and 3 finger for FMB at the same time (I'm primarily a clawhammer player) and while obviously similar....two different worlds, really. Clawhammer always came easy to me. Even two finger picking. But 3 finger Bluegrass banjo is a hard one to get down. I'll learn the clawhammer version of a song within a months time if I really practice hard. Same song, 3 finger...takes me months or more and tabs are very different.
You are very talented, and nice flag ;) Did you create the tabs for this yourself? I have yet to find clawhammer tabs for Foggy Mountain Breakdown which sounds so akin to Scruggs style as your rendition
Great banjo picking! LOVE that Confederate Battle Flag, designed by General Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard, Confederate States of America, one of two southern generals who won the first battle at Manassas Junction VA. during the War of Northern Aggression.

Thomas Becker , What does the confederate flag have to do with you subscribing to this young mans channel ? Hundreds of thousands of men died under that flag and rather you like it or not you can’t rewrite history. It happened ,so ,that flag belongs right beside the American flag out of respect for the men who gave their lives for it right here in the United States of America . Know matter how many statuses are taken down it’s not gonna change history . This young man doesn’t need a bigot on his channel anyway so go be a goody two shoes some where else bigot.
I believe that’s the best version I’ve ever heard for hammer style
Calvin smith Thank you! I sure appreciate it!
Seriously the best that I have heard. Have you put together a tab for this yet as I'm still unable to find a decent one?
It's clawhammer style

Can I make a request can. You play banjo cover song of Barbecue of emlets otters jug band Xmas please
Get the kid a clawhammer banjo. Would love to hear that on a clawhammer banjer.
there is no such thing. You probably mean an open back, but clawhammer was historically played on any kind of banjo.
Did you upstroke at all??
Post more often.
Basically said squeal like a piggy

This flag stands for heritage. Don't hate it just cause you can't understand it.
@@markbarry9151 the confederate states lasted for 4 years, that isn't exactly heritage.
the NWA lasted longer

Sounds like it's time to burn Georgia again

And kinda Ironic that you call the flag treasonous then say time to burn Georgia
