Top video, technique always plays a role. My observation of using rollers was the bands died earlier, and you used more rubber over the season. Great video!

Great video! I’ve got a neritic roller spear I’m experimenting with and learning! Made the swamp for speargun to polenspear and it’s a learning curve! I still use my gun but would like to be efficient with pole as well!

well there is no denying that rollers allows you to stretch the rubberband easier and witch also that give more power and it does allow you to move the "stretch" point you can already have tension on the rubber before u start stretching it (just like the roller spear you have)
with that said... the spear you use as "standard" have twice the length of the rubber since its "folded"... try single rubber with a "handle" in the end (just like the roller) and you will see that you get more power out of it because u can make it shorter and stretch it more.
you simply dont have enough muscles to stretch 2x 16x3mm rubbers with 1 hand. you see the high powered spearguns using it and they use 2 hands plus have a thick plate in the back to shove it into their bodies to be able to load it.
as it is right now loading the "standard" require 4x more power to load compared to the roller (just 1 rubber instead of 2 and the roller split it in half)

I use a resting hook on my roller pole spear and swim around with it fully loaded and no strain on your hand.

Are the roller and standard polespear butts interchangeable? I was gifted a standard but I kind of want the benefits of the roller.

Hi, I'm planning to buy the roller one, but the sea visibility in Hong Kong is only 2 - 3 meters, and your website only have 8 ft, so I would like to know how many sections are they connect? can I adjust by myself to 5 - 6 ft ?

I’m not a spearo but it doesn’t seem right. First the distance with power and slack is understood. But two things, first the standard you’re stretching shorter bands vs the longer and easier to stretch bands on the roller. I wonder about the power determined by how stretched out the bands are that creates power.

Thank you very much. I did use the roller for few times. My experience is, the pole stop immediately once the band "ball" hit the roller. It means there is no way to let go the pole like traditional. Therefore, the shooting range of roller is shorter than traditional. Or I did a wrong rigging??

lap tai you didn’t rig jt wrong, but maybe try looping the band on your hand differently. I normally place my hand in the loop, but if I want the spear to shoot further i place only my thumb through the loop. This allows the loop to slide off your thumb easily so that you “let go”. But again, so much of this is personal preference. We have polespeared two wahoo in the past few weeks and both were on a traditional band, not a roller. And we had plenty of power and range to stone both fish.

Can you shorten the spear from 9’ to 6’?

It seems plausible. Longer pole equals more accuracy, but the roller gives more power. Wouldn't making a shorter roller make a one step possible.
