- How to recover your 3 digit combination lock on your Ikea cabinet. It's only a matter of time before you forget the combination or have a mishap and get locked out of your cabinet. Lifesaver! Kids played in the home office and closed the Galant closet, securing the lock. Could'nt remember the combination. By using this hack I was able to unlock within 5 minutes. Epic! Thanks!

Hi, this is IKEA Russia employee(: Thanks man, really appreciate your guide, we were able to pull the trick with construction knife on our newer lock model (lever instead of pinhole to change password). Random visitor scrambled the sequence, but we finally got that open, thanks again)

We bought a second-hand file cabinet from a guy who swore the lock combo had never been set and was still 000. He was wrong, as we discovered after we put our tax docs in it, and the dial accidentally got turned.
But I tried this method, and managed to decipher the combination in under 5 minutes.

OMG you're a life saver!! I purchased the Galant file cabinet on clearance at Ikea already assembled and didn't come with instructions or manual. Not that I needed them.....so I thought. It came unlocked and was never able to set my own combination so It was always between locked and unlocked position for 7 months. Until today! Out of nowhere it Locked. I was FREAKING OUT! Called Ikea, was waiting to speak to a representative for about 25 minutes when I decided to Google the problem and there it was.... Your CZcams video. The rest it's history. THANK YOU so much for sharing. It was very Hepful and now I even know the combination :)

This guy is a genius!!!! I have no idea how he figured this out but it just saved us $700. I called every lock smith in town and ikea and everyone said the only solution was to break the cabinet. THANK YOU!!!
Saw other videos that said you should focus on the sound, nope, you can def feel when the thin metal clip/knife you are using goes down. This video is so helpful!

The tool that worked for me was the thin metal file clip (knives didn't work, vitamins' aluminium blister neither, could not see anything with the flashlight...) You made my day :) Finally I managed to open this bloody lock!

FEB 2020! This worked completely. I suggest a business card as well. Once the card does not slide, use that number and forward all three 5 clicks. Mine caught at 344 and opened at 899!

Yup - except it was my 7-year old who knew enough to know he had done something bad and came to me crying with remorse. He actually manged to reset the combination, so there was no way to guess what it was originally set to. Your method totally worked. I ended up using a piece of card stock, figured out the new combination, and presto - I'm in. Thanks a MILLION!

Thank you! Just spent forever building the Galant Cabinet with Sliding Doors only to screw up and set the lock while it was in the wrong position and then turn it. Anyways, I didn't have a filet knife but I found a thicker piece of foil that did the trick. Saved me one massively frustrating night. Thanks!
Just a quick tip if your knives aren’t thin enough; cut a strip from a plastic drink container & shape a point on the end. Works a treat and sorted the combination in 5 minutes.

THANK YOU! Similar to paper, I used construction paper (a little more rigid). Using anything other than a thin knife or shim/feeler gauge requires a gentle touch to feel the notch without damaging or wrinkling the paper. THANK YOU AGAIN!

Amazing! I had just put mine together and somehow set the combo for a number that I had no idea what it was. Clld cust svc and they told me to go on Google to see how to break into it, then I'd have to bring it back to the store to get a new cabinet (not a good option for me!) Like some else suggested, I used a clamp from a file folder. I can't even tell you how thankful I am that I found this!

omg thank you. you are a life-saver :D I had the problem that the gaps next to the number wheels were really tight, so even the thinnest knifes or a business card were too wide. I did it with a piece of blister pack foil from my multivitamins, it worked :D also, the tip at the end helped as well, where you turn all the numbers simultaneously :D

Worked great! Any knife I had (including a boxcutter) would stop the number wheel from turning so I used pill bubble sheet which is thin and flexible.
Thanks for the instructions. For me, it worked different (European model?). The notch only functions pointing downward, not up. So after finding the notches pointing upward with the knife, I haf to turn the knob 5 numbers to have it pointing downward!!!. And voila, it worked!

I have one of those types of locks too and I could not feel any notches using the blade from a window scraping tool. So I tried Chantal's idea and turned the numbered cams while depressing the code reset button with an unfolded paper clip. My lock did not generate any "clicks" but rather the cams would get "sticky" around the right number and then move freely again once I past that position. Also the reset button would travel into the lock much further when the right number was dialed on the cam, and was the missing puzzle piece. Starting from the wheel closest to the reset button is the right approach. I had to play with the two numbers on each wheel nearest the point where it got sticky, but each time I found a right number the reset button traveled a bit further. I found that pulsing the reset button so I can sense how far it was traveling helped me find each successive number. It took me about 5 minutes or so fiddling around that way but it worked!!
