when i put my fingers on the strings why doesn't it make a sound when i scratch it. I don't know how that works

I know, tt takes a while to get this technique down.To get that scratch you want to strike the strings and immediately mute them with your palm. To get the hang of it you can start by just tapping the strings to get used to that motion and little by little incorporate the scratch.
