If you have good grades ignore this part of the flow chart. There are some not huge nerds who do Pathology and some genii doing Pediatrics.

The only problem is that I got such a high GPA from taking honors class not AP/IB classes. But for my senior year I’m going to be attending a community college instead of studying my last year at my high school so that way I can get college credits. The only problem is that I’m sure the elite undergrad schools don’t have transferable credits but I will look more into that. My experience in the community college as a high school senior is more for the rigorous work So that I can become used to the amount of work for the future. Also what are some of the best undergrad majors to study to get into med school? In addition do you know of any high school seniors that can shadow doctors like a dermatologist, is That possible?

    THANK YOU so much for this. Holy shit.
    Been driving myself insane the last couple months while I nervously wait on an acceptance or denial letter to my community college's A.S. for Radiology. (doing a two year to be an x-ray tech to see if I can even stand that and retain interest before pushing though a 4 year out of city and into med school and such)
    During that time I've been sitting here looking up alternatives in case I don't get accepted where I can just finish my A.A. and either reapply to the programs at my cc, or go to a Uni.
    I've been bouncing around between an IT or Comp. Science degree and something in medicine for the last 10 years (22 now) so it seemed sensible to do Radiology to work with machines and still help others.
    Going back to the flow chart:
    - Despite interest in just about everything aside from Cardiology, I hate kids with a passion so I don't know about Family Medicine there. Although I've never had to work around them. Only experiences I can think of are in grocery stores and such when the parents can't stop their kid from screaming and crying for minutes at a time.
    - Grades are fine aside from the C in A&P2 (side effects from a medication is all imma say).
    - I am fine with cutting things but something about needles freaks me the fuck out, although I am willing to bet I can just be around them enough to make that go away. Otherwise anything Cardiovascular related is an absolute no go. (gonna look into interventional radiology procedures to see what that all entails)
    - Socially awkward is getting there. Just takes a couple minutes talking to get comfortable with the person. Though honestly a few minutes is all I imagine most people have with a particular patient so it'd always be awkward.
    So yeah, pretty accurate.

    what is the perfect subject to major in to go to Medical school?

    • @antoniowebbmd
      @antoniowebbmd  Pƙed 5 lety +4

      There is no "perfect" subject to major in. I actually sat on the admissions board at Georgetown while in med school and learned a quite bit about applying, etc. Lately, most med schools have started to like students with non bio/non chem degrees. But, major in something that you enjoy learning about. If it's not bio or chem, then do the pre-reqs additionally. If you want to major in music, then do that. And then just do the pre-reqs for med school. That will be perfectly fine and may actually make you stand out from the majority who have a biology or chemistry degree. If I had to recommend a degree to a pre medical student, it would be to pick a major that after you graduate (and while applying to medical school) that you can make some income. Examples include: nursing degree, tech jobs associated with a degree, computer degrees, etc. I hope this helps and good luck!

      @Jswirv That's the biggest BS floating around. If you are an American, with an undergrad degree and do well on your exams and rotations. AND APPLY WISELY, THEN YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE ANY ISSUES. It's expensive to go to caribbean, THEY DON'T OFFER SUPPORT and you have to teach yourself for the most part and you have no real guidance. They will drop you faster than a fart disappearing in the wind if you screw up on courses. American medical schools set you up better. On Top of that Caribbean students are still responsible to meet the same exact criteria as students from Ivy league schools and pass the same exams.

    What’s the difference between a physical medicine & rehab MD vs physical therapist?

    • @antoniowebbmd
      @antoniowebbmd  Pƙed 5 lety +5

      Good question. Physiatrists and physical therapists treat patients with the same types of conditions. However, physiatrists are physicians who have completed medical school plus four years of residency training. The role of the physiatrist is to manage a patient's medical issues as they participate through the rehabilitation process such as their blood pressure and other medical problems. Physical therapists then assist the patients in the rehab process so essentially they work together as a team.
