How to use the NEW Microsoft Teams 🆕

- In this Microsoft Teams tutorial video, I show the all-new Teams client for 2023. This includes new features in Microsoft Teams like fast tenant switching, channel updates, Settings, user interface and lots more. The new Teams is fast, slimmer and simpler. Globally available now for Desktop and Mac users of Teams, with Web updates coming later in fall 2023. Links are also below on how to get started.
Two changes since the video came out:
1) The UI switching mechanism to the new Teams has moved from the upper left to the "..." menu
2) For Commercial customers, the final date to still use the old Teams is March 31st, then you cannot switch back

As a blind user, I tried navigating teams earlier today after getting my new Windows computer, and am loving it. Way easier in my opinion to get around and everything is placed well and and love the shortcuts. Accessible on all platforms which is great. I use NVDA as my screen reader.
The new Teams is much better!
If Microsoft did a similar rebuild for SharePoint's underlying structure then M365 would leave competitors in the dust!
Am I the only one thinking that the bar color is purple, not blue?
Purple/indigo/blue. I'm terrible with colors 🎨

You can choose the ”classic” old blue in the setting menu. I prefer the “purple” than the old one

I'm glad there are so many upgrades, but I will be using exactly 0 of them since I'm only a user of one tenant. That wouldn't be a big deal except the SAVED message feature is gone - which is huge for me. This is my to-do list and I NEED this feature to tame the chaos of Teams. PLEASE BRING BACK THE SAVED FEATURE!!!
Without this option, Teams is almost useless for me.
Will the contacts in the chat app come back?
It is now the "People" app - you can search for it and pin to the app bar
Faster and being able to handle multiple tenants is all very nice but when is it going to be available for corporate customers rather than consumers?
It is now available for corporate customers. IT Admin needs to enable to make it default on or "switchable"
@@MikeTholfsen thanks - does that include very large organisations such as the National Health Service in the UK? I've not heard of anyone seeing it available yet.
So, basically everything the same, just faster... just fixing the horrible coding in the classic teams... so disappointing like any other microsoft software
Unfortunately it was never the original coding, it was the unfortunate mistake of platform it was developed on. They literally had to rewrite the platform.
Did they put back the contacts under chat?
Been using it for a while now. Features are now at par with classic but much faster and cleaner. 🎉
Multi-tenant, multi-account support has arrived 😊
UI and settings still look clunky and all over the place. Not sure this is real "Simpler", but it sure isnt nearly as simple as other similar apps. All i got from this was, "its the same, just a bit faster".
- You have Far too many "3-dot menus" scattered around.
- Has the issue of chat NOT auto scrolling been fixed? And yes, it IS an issue. If that is how you intend it to work, then its garbage and you need to change it.
- Are there more status messages relating to WORK.. since.. you know.. this is suppose to be a WORK focused app? "Lunch", "Out of Office", "Working from Home", ect? And does the Duration (if it still exists) work properly now?
- Does image insert actually work now instead of just posting a link?
- Did you add the ability to SCHEDULE updates instead of forcing them on us in the middle of the day and having the app just suddenly close down and restart itself? For that matter, why not integrate the updates into O365 if that's installed so they ONLY install when the OFFICE updates are installed?
- Have you fixed the broken Activity notifications that don't go away when you View them, or still notify you despite being in the location of the notification?
I mean, you made it faster.. Great. Well done.. But you have a LOT more work to do yet to make this an effective Office tool.
UX designs are very complex compared to zoom and meet. I hope teams focus on easy and clear UI UX design.
I used to feel that too during my first year in college. But since we used it like every day because of covid, I got familiar with it within 2 months.
@@PopCapMusicTrendingthat’s precisely the issue with teams. One can get used to it but one will never like it. It’s too cluttered and non intuitive
Can new Microsoft teams do automatic meeting minutes like zoom or other platforms yet? It would be extremely helpful for this upgrade.

Since you didn't show Team management, will there be options to filter and sort Team membership? Also export Teams members to an CSV or Excel file?
Definitely an improvement and tenant switching HUGELY improved (a significant factor for a consultancy). Ref design, if you look at this side-by-side with new Outlook, it already looks dated, missing many of the new office design cues!
Hope it really gets much faster compared to the previous version that is too slow
I am unable to find the 'Set Delivery Options' , which was in the older Teams chat window. It was an ! icon. Where is the option in the new one?
How do I get rid of the share bar at the top of page when presenting. It blocks my tabs, so everything time I want to go into a new tab while presenting, I have to stop sharing and then share again once I have changed tabs. Very frustrating & not very professional when presenting in a business meeting 😢

New teams is missing the option to change camera settings. My camera is just a little too far away, so I always zoom in a bit. But I can't do this in the new teams, so I switched back. I hope they fix this sometime.
Why is there new Teams and old Teams? Why not eliminate the old version if the new is so much better?
Ultimately it will be removed but there will be a transition process over the next 9 months
Almost had my anti-Teams work group ready to go fully to Teams, until I had to tell them you can't create meetings in private subchannels. Since I had sold them on how great it was to be able to do everything via Teams, when they found out we could not schedule meetings, it was a hard "no thanks" from them 😥 I have gathered this is not anything Microsoft wants to change.... unfortunately. So back to Outlook and zoom we go..... 😭😭
Are you sure you can't schedule meetings? Isn't that how most online classes were conducted?
Why not skip the private channel for them and do a separate Team for them? Then all features are available. If you need privacy for files, create a separate document library with restricted permissions. Some ideas to consider :).
Microsoft should differ their meeting app called “Teams” and the whole-integrated-collaboration tools called “Teams”
Even he shows device settings which is likely the most used setting that is now hidden under multiple levels meaning in most meetings I'm having to tell people where to click to find it.
Device settings is likely as important an item as can be imagined to be so hidden away that even he had to point out where it is in the menu!
To my horror, the new teams removed the "contacts" feature. Is there an alternative feature, or at least a way for me to download all my contact groups or the individual contact names while the old teams is still accessible? Help‼️‼️‼️‼️ This is an absolute disaster.😰
I have been told there is a people's app. It connected to ya Outlook apparently.
In classic teams you could be notified when someone was finished on a call. Can you do that in NEW TEAMS

What happened to announcement banners? Not sure ill be able to keep using Microsoft Teams without this feature - visuals is so important for children
They still exist. You can change the type of post down near the bottom now. It's an icon vs. label to switch the type
Today I opened teams to get a modal of what’s new in teams, however, as my teams is in dark mode but the modal doesn’t adapt to dark it was a colourful banner then black text on very dark grey - so it seems the what’s new in Teams this time was….. an eye test!!
There are no sound notifications anymore. We have to use Windows notifications bcause new Teams app (same as the new Outlook) don't have it's own notifications. Windows notifications are a NO-GO for my company which is very bad since we got use to M365 and soon we will have to look for a diferent solutions.
Why is that an issue? Why are windows notifications a no-go?
@@TheTioram bcs recruiters need quiet time while doing phone screens and can't bother to remember to disable notifications every time candidate make sudden call...icon color change is way better and also having controlled notifications only from apps they use, like OLD Teams, Outlook, RingCentral, etc.
In these videos can you mention which version it is? I have Win10 free version 1.6 and it says it's updated today, but it doesn't look new.

Can you populate the new Teams with content and duplicate it with the content - channels alone just doesn't cut it. For some situations it is a hassle having to duplicate the content for each cloned/duplicated Teams e.g. in a class situation
Setting notifications is not the same and you skipped over that. We are no longer able to adjust notifications. WHY did they change this?

Been using new teams for a while each day when I open it’s channel roulette as to what channel/chat will be the active one, and still we have activity notifications that show even when you’re in the channel or have read the content you got notification for, would be good if that was tied to the content so you read the reply and the activity knows it has been read so no need to have it there with the dot.
If you quit and relaunch it asks if you want to swap back to classic new teams has an inferiority complex 😂
I tried the new MS Teams today and it crashed 3 times during a meeting. The meeting had to be ended through Teams in the browser. Is everything working well for you? Where is the problem here?
Whenever organizer create an meeting with auto recording enabled. If someone joins the meeting before the organiser joins the meetinga automatically own by who joins first not organiser.
So why there is meeting organizers feature? 🤔

its installtion is very complicated. from where to download it?
On new Teams on Web, I cant see "Contacts" option, I only see my contacts on chats, so i have to change to the old Teams

Hopefully you improved also the performance on IOS devices (iPad etc.) right now the Windows performance on IOS is unfortunately still not good enough as it should be.
Print a chat conversation (export to a well formatted pdf)... You cannot do a simple thing like that. I hope the new version remember that.
I couldn't figure out how to give control to another user in a Teams screen share session. Had to go back to the old/classic version.
Today I figured out they need to either be a presenter or coorganiser. Hope this helps

Why is it that I still cannot delete old chats? My teams instance is cluttered with one off chats with people I’ll never chat with again. Also the teams window uses up way too much space and rather than allow people to choose whether they want to see the last message sent or received underneath the name the person, Microsoft forces it on on. Teams is an eye sore.
Last but not least why are „reactions“ worth an extra tab? Yet more clutter and yet one more mouse action to reset the counter in the task bar. Teams is a pain

The old teams we could upload background for the company - but they did not transfer over to the new app... and I cannot find where to do this?
@MortenNormannAlmeland We have discovered that the functionality IS there, it is just been way over complicated now. The location for "Classic Teams" was in the folder \%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Teams\Backgrounds\Uploads and you could just place the background and thumbnail in there. Now that location is \%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams\Backgrounds\Uploads ... BUT... You cannot just drop the image files in that directory, you MUST have a Thumbnail for each image and both the Thumb and the image file MUST be renamed to a GUID to make it unique with the Thumbnail having the same guid with _Thumb after it. I don't understand why it has to be so difficult as the pre-canned backgrounds in the folder just above "Uploads" are not GUID names There are some PowerShell scripts online that you can find to accomplish this. Not simple, but once you have a process it should work. We are in the middle of doing this right now as our corp marketing want's us to use company backgrounds. Hope this helps
I am having issues with my pinned chats. When I pin them they are all there, but if I dont click on them periodically they disappear. Any suggestions on how to fix this? I never happened with the old teams

Polls on teams are really bad, questions are limited to a short number of characters, you can only ask 1 question and answers can't take the place of a free form. There are so many limitations !
I just realized that the Quick Message functionality appears to have been dropped in the latest versions of Teams (mac). Used to be 1 click in the search bar, then @username, enter, type a message, optionally hit enter again to take you to the chat window. Now it just searches.. I used this all the time so I sure hope it's put back or there is another way to achieve this?

Conclusion: Not much new in experience & features - assuming this is intentionall.
Correct. Faster, less memory consumption, and some small updates. But now that we're on the new platform, we can innovate much faster
