This band consisted of the members of Mother Love Bone(who had just lost their lead singer Andrew Wood To drug overdose), Chris Cornell of Soundgarden (and later Audioslave), Eddie Vedder and what would be the FUTURE members of PEARL JAM. So it's technically 3 bands in one.... Temple of The Dog was a one time collab to honor their friend Andrew Wood of MLB. As others have said... PLEASE do "Hunger Strike".... It's Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder doing lead vocals. The way their voices complement/play off each others is EPIC!!! SIDE NOTE: This was the event that brought the band PEARL JAM together. The guys of MLB had just lost their lead singer and friend... The then unknown Eddie Vedder just happened to be sitting in the studio waiting for his newly formed(Mookie Blaylock) bands studio time. Eddie could hear Chris struggling to get his vocals the way he wanted them, so as Chris Cornel put it: "Eddie quietly, but with some balls, walked up to the mic and started singing the low parts" the rest is history for PEARL JAM!

This band is Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, Audioslave, solo) with 3 members of Pearl Jam (of which 2 were from Mother Love Bone) and the drummer from Soundgarden, now in Pearl Jam. Guest/backup vocals also provided Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam, Solo) on a couple tracks, including Hunger Strike.
This was a passion project for Chris Cornell and was motivated by the death of his friend and roommate at the time Andrew Wood (Mother Love Bone). I think it was also to help Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament (Mother Love Bone, Pearl Jam) to cope with the loss of their friend and bandmate. It may have also helped Mike McCready and Eddie Vedder (both Pearl Jam) start the bond with new bandmates Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament.
Songs for Andrew Wood (that I know of, probably some missing) - Temple of The Dog: Say Hello to Heaven and Reach Down, Alice in Chains: Would?, Candlebox: Far Behind, and I heard (maybe in Andrew's story) that Outshined by Soundgarden also was, but I cannot find a reference to it so, not certain on that one. He touched so many people's lives and left an indelible mark on Seattle and many of the musicians here.
Please try out some Mother Love Bone. I really like the songs Stargazer* and Man of Golden Words (this is the song with the line temple of the dog).
I also recommend Stardog Champion (this one is heavier than the others) and the standard request Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns is also good.
    * I like the video they put together on this one, it is clips of the band and of Andrew. It definitely seems he had stage presence & a big personality.

Chris Cornell is my favorite singer. Has been my favorite since the early 90's. Before I became addicted to his voice, I was a huge Queen fan. Your channel has brought back a lot of memories of falling down my own rabbit holes. For some of the more obscure song recommendations for Queen, I'd go for "The Prophet's Song," Queen's play with singing in the round. Or, possibly, one of the songs that Brian or Roger sing lead on... Maybe "Sleeping on the Sidewalk" or "Drowse?" For Chris Cornell, I particularly love "Rowing" from the Soundgarden King Animal CD.

Temple of the Dog produced one album - this one. A grunge "supergroup". For more Chris Cornell -RIP- vocals, Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun". Soundgarden was Chris' band. Don't know if you've listened to any Linkin Park - Chester Bennington was Chris' best friend, they committed suicide within 3 months of each other. Each of those deaths hit me, and millions of other folks, very hard. I'm a huge fan of Linkin Park, and I took Chester's death harder - I wasn't the same for a couple of weeks after he passed. The talent that they both possessed - and integrated with other amazingly talented musicians in their respective bands (particularly Mike Shinoda in Linkin Park) - was, and is, staggering. I need to thank you for your commitment in finding and listening to amazing music from artists from "outside your jazz world". I believe you're having a great time discovering this music. Cheers!

  • @SonicProfessor_a.k.a._T._Andra

This is, of course, Chris Cornell's tribute to his dead friend: Andrew Wood (of Mother Love Bone) ; the ENTIRE album, of course. but, this song ("Say Hello 2 Heaven" (stylized "Prince-style" with the number instead of the word)-) in particular.
The album, actually, pre-dates Pearl Jam's formation, but it's release was post-dated and the thing became a kind of "super-bamd" due to it featuring players who were or became members of Soundgarden & Pearl Jam and, as one may-or-may-not be aware: the core of Pearl Jam began as members of Andrew Wood's band Mother Love Bone (guitarist Mike McCready, drummer Dave Krusen (himself: replaced by Dave Abbruzzese, by the 2nd P.J album: Vs. (originally titled: 5 Against 1 or 5 Against The World)) and vocalist: Eddie Vedder were the members added/exchanged). Both bassist Jeff Ament and guitarist Stone Gossard were members of Mother Love Bone.
They and Mike McCready play on: Temple Of The Dog.
The drummer is: Matt Cameron; Soundgarden's drummer who, after Soundgarden's break-up, would sign on with Pearl Jam as their long-time drummer, as well.
As with anything featuring Chris Cornell: The work is magical, unique and excellent. Cornell's voice is a glory and his musicality is incredible!
...the album was re-released after-the-fact to capitalize on the, then, success of, both: Soundarden and Pearl Jam. ...If I am not mistaken, the song "Hunger Strike" (which became the first single released from Temple Of The Dog -although it is FAR from the best song; or the most commercial one!; on the record!-), on which Cornell and Vedder share lead vocals (Ed sings the 2nd verse & both share choruses/outro) is, actually the first professional recording Vedder ever did. It was recorded the DAY he first showed-up to meet with members of his new band (not yet Pearl Jam, then!).
...all of the bands mentioned deserve your attention, as well, Chod.
    Mother Love Bone
    Malfunkshun
    Soundgarden
    Pearl Jam
...and their other "adjuncts," as well....

This is the incomparable Chris Cornell who would later front Soundgarden, Audio Slave and have a solo career. Amazing artist that we lost to suicide.
Soundgarden, Pearl Jam (basically Temple of the Dog without Chris Cornell), Nirvana and Alice in Chains were the 4 powerhouse bands from Seattle that helped to change the sound of rock in the early to mid 90s with their grunge sound. Add in Stone Temple Pilots, Smashing Pumpkins and Red Hot Chili Peppers and (I'm sure I'm forgetting many) and alternative rock was born.

Hey...thanks for taking the time with the links...all great it’s hard for me to hear anyone’s voice other than Plant’s singing the song he wrote to his wife, but if anyone did, Cornell is best possible choice

You gotta take a listen to Chris Cornell’s live acoustic remake of Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean”..the best version on CZcams is a live acoustic version of just Chris singing and it’s a pic of Chris in black and white looking straight forward..that is the BEST VERSION of his remake. He stripped the song down and poured his entire being into this song..Please react to this version!

Lots of death by overdose or suicide by these Pacific Northwest grunge and metal bands.
Layne Staley, Chris Cornell, Kurt Cobain, Warrell Dane from Nevermore.
Did I miss another rocker somewhere? Damn. Bad luck with rockstars in Washington

my next suggestion, Ten Years After - I'd Love to Change the World [ czcams.com/video/CTUsFm0BAu8/video.html ] - another great 60's song with a memorable guitar riff and a message that is just as true today as it was 50 years ago...

Chris Cornell's cover of Billiejean is so different and superior to MJ's original: all blues and soul💖!

Agree! Chris' version is FAR superior... I honestly think he could've sung the phonebook and he'd have had us all in a trance!
