Songs like this are the reason us Boomers feel that music today has very little to offer us. What can compete with this wonderful music we grew up with and took for granted? We thought music would always be this good. It's wonderful to see younger generations picking up on the music of the 60s, 70s and 80s. This song was a favorite of mine when I was in seventh grade. Yeah, that was fifty years ago.
Funny story: all this music was our 24/7 on the radio hehe and we had to often wait for our favorites to come around on the rotation again to hear them. We'd get a single here and there as kids but if you wanted to hear it you'd have to wait until they played it again. No regrets!
The best thing about being in my 60s is the music that raised me and seeing that even now it is still being played! Great song choice! You seem to genuinely enjoy and appreciate the music and it's nice to see! Thank you!
Music is what brings everybody together. I think it is the bridge between people's feelings. Music speaks to people, it doesn't matter what nationality, color, religion, or anything else. Music makes people feel and think.
This was a great blast from the past. A real gem here. This song was always on the radio back then. I haven’t heard it in forever. Thanks for your reaction to it. I loved the groove of this song again. 😊
Regardless of what the artists say, songs actually mean whatever you feel they mean to you (and a fair number of artist would agree with that). For me, this song has always been about the music--"our music"--music of the 60s and 70s. 😄
This is such a wonderful soulful song that I remember quite well from when I was 19. You can interpret it many ways. There’s no right or wrong when it comes to finding the meaning in song lyrics. Love your reactions and your enthusiasm. Keep em coming. More Linda Ronstadt please 🌺✌️
First time I ever heard this song was from a jukebox in a small town cafe, my sophomore year of high school. My folks were leading up to getting a divorce. I was a bit stressed by the tension in the apartment, and walked "uptown" to our three block long main street and sat at the counter of one of the cafes in town, and got a cup of coffee. While I was sitting there, someone played this song on the jukebox. Danged if it wasn't just what I needed at exactly that moment, the knot left my stomach sometime during the song. I've had a soft spot for it and for Dobie Gray, ever since.
Sorry you had to go through that upheavel and sadness in your life, Kevin, but your story shows the transformative power of music. (Music has gotten me through some rough patches, too.) Thanks for sharing it.
I talked to Dobie on the telephone one time, a few years before he passed away. He was in a bar drinking tequila with Michael McDonald and a friend of mine. They were gonna do an album together and get my buddy to produce it. Sadly it didn't happen because of Dobie's health etc. You should check out his live performance at a Volunteer Jam concert of the song The Night they Drove old Dixie Down.
I've always loved this song and have heard it many times over the years. Thanks for your reaction, for some reason and for the first time I really keyed in on the backup vocals, they're excellent.
You have got to listen to another great banger of his: “Let Go”, you would love this one as well. He has such a unique soulful voice!! Definitely music does something to one wether one is happy or sad, it soothes me!
Love this song. Was a great artist 🥰❤️. You have to admit we had some damn good music back in our days LOL. The song Eve of Destruction Can fit into days World. I just love your reactions
It always amazes me the look on people's faces when this song starts playing. They close their eyes and bobble their head. Because that's what this dude does. Relax and enjoy good music.
Kept waiting for another great song from Dobie Gray. I'm still waiting. An amazing song, but sadly only a One Hit Wonder. The Bass, the lyrics, the voice, all top notch, we just wanted some more.

Completely agree with your comment being a Boomer myself...🎤🎶👍
I've listened to this song hundreds of times in my life (I'm 72), but it still sends shivers up my spine. An absolute classic.
One of the best songs ever.
This is the best cover version.
I saw him at an under the stars concert in Virginia Beach. Yeah, it was fabulous..❤️🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
When they say back in the day, this is what they're talking about.
Beautiful song. Beautiful reaction.

What a beautiful song. Haven't heard the song in along time.✌️🎶🎵🎶
One of all time favorite 70s songs. Dobie was such a great singer.
Pretty much a one hit wonder but some of the BEST songs ever fall under that category.
Dobie Gray had another big hit a few years earlier called "The In Crowd".
Could have been written and produced today!
My fav one hit wonder!
Peace

Nicely said. :)
Sad that he was another great artist that passed away way to soon ❤️ RIP 😔
Brilliant song. Heart-felt reaction. 😊
Couldn't agree more. His reactions are so emotionally genuine, and this one especially so.

Great song, great lyrics, great reaction, cheers CR.
Wow, it's been ages since I've heard that - I forgot how great it is. I'll be listening to Drift Away a lot more having "found" it again. Loved it!
I love it when people react to greatness like u do. It's 1 of those songs that have been with me from the first time I heard it. 50 yrs. later.
You really hit on a great one here. Never could hear this one enough. This should be the anthem for all reactors.
"This should be the anthem for all reactors." Well stated!
Music brings souls together and pieces souls together

This is a true classic. A tribute to rock and roll and how it can bring you into the zone...
There are no words for how much I have always loved this song and this performance.

Yes........Melanie's "Lay Down" - live on Dutch TV, with the Edwin Hawkins Singers!
You are so right!
Music helped me get through recovering from surgery last year.✌️

Great old early 70s song. I think this fellow passed away a couple of years ago.

He was talking about music. Dobie had an amazing voice and he gets me every time with this song, because this is what music does for me.🎶🎼❤️
Haven't heard a cover yet better than this!
Lovely song. There is a cover of this by Rod Stewart in the "Atlantic Cross" album
