  • Visual ability has to do with how well you can see. While good eyesight is an important asset for most jobs. Some careers really focus in on your visual ability.
For example, there's visual acuity; that's being able to look at something close up or at a distance and discern irregularities or changes. Visual acuity helps mechanical inspectors zero in quickly on flaws or code violations that might cause injury.
Many people who deal with words or numbers may need to visually double check their work. Misreading a column of numbers could require long recalculations for a bookkeeper.
Film and video editors choosing the right shots to tell a story, rely on strong visual recall. Being able to remember specific images from the footage they've screened greatly enhances the editing process.
Good depth perception is vital to professions where you need to assess available space. For example, to park cars, or to park a plane. Depth perception is also crucial for precise hand eye coordination. Athletes, watch repairers, and surgeons all depend on accurate depth perception.
Other jobs require exceptional sensitivity to color and contrast. Photographic restorers match the tones of faded or damaged photos to make the image is whole again, with as few visible repairs as possible.
Careers behind the wheel or other controls require frequent vision screenings, as many eyesight functions can change over time.
