@@Ixe2077 not sure if there's one in 2021. But I don't have any doubt that at some point in the past the world had something many times worst than that.
That’s the point in a way. The bombs are so terrifying but they were built to make sure we wouldn’t need them. If everyone can wipe the other off the map then they won’t be inclined to fight.
MAD. You'll keep the fighting reasonably small compared to a full on war if war brings MAD. Also, area denial. A general wanted to use nukes in the Korean war to irradiate the Korea-China Border to prevent them from getting assistance.
Every time he asked, "wait, there's more?", I remembered a quote from a famous US general who said, "Our world is one of war and nuclear dominance. We know more about war and killing rather than peace and living."
Tsar was actually initally designed to be twice the size of explosion radius but was reduced to give the pilots a 50/50 chance at survival after dropping the payload Edit: specifying that it was the size of the explosion that was reduced, not the size of the payload, by adding Lead and not building it to perfection, they were able to reduce the explosive radius. Thereby giving those pilots a chance. This comment got some traction so I'd rather not spread misinformation.
actually it stayed the same size but instead of building it "to perfection" (= adding an extra layer of nuclear fuel) they added lead which would stop it. you can imagine that some silly lead wont stop an h bomb when it's already going off, but scientists calculated that it was 50% weaker than what wouldve been possible. some were actually afraid the bomb might break the earth's crust and cause a supervulcano to erupt with that kind of blast
@@onetwothreefour3957 my intention was referring to the explosion size and not the bomb size. But I didn't know that little fact, so I'm glad that little miscommunication happened. That's really cool how they solved that problem for the pilots "safety".

It was technically only because the bomb was so big in mass it needed a huge plane to carry it, the faster jets were too small so they had to use a jumbo cargo that was slow af
Terrifying fact: The detonation of the Tsar Bomba dropped by the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics was so devastating that not only could the mushroom cloud be seen from space. But the impact of the explosion was able to be felt as far as western Finland, Sweden, north eastern Norway, and presumably Estonia, as well as the shockwave of said explosion was said to have traveled the world 2-3 times. Pretty devastating for a bomb. Makes you wonder what all this is for. tsar bomb could probably destroy the world as we know it if it were the full thing
edit: I'm aware it probably won't destroy the planet, by "the world as we know it" I mean most things we have made (including ourselves) would leave the face of the universe
@@Angiesunshine13 Wait does one still exist?
They parachuted it and the reason they used lead instead of uranium was because there was a population nearby that would have been effected by fallout. Not because it would “destroy the world” as that other retard said.
@@Ixe2077 not sure if there's one in 2021. But I don't have any doubt that at some point in the past the world had something many times worst than that.

nukes are terrifying.
Tsar was actually initally designed to be twice the size of explosion radius but was reduced to give the pilots a 50/50 chance at survival after dropping the payload
Edit: specifying that it was the size of the explosion that was reduced, not the size of the payload, by adding Lead and not building it to perfection, they were able to reduce the explosive radius.
@@Haggispk yea I honestly would reduce the explosion but imagine I'd they didn't reduce it 0.0
@@lisaw8390 they did, if they added an uranium fuse that would've doubled the thing
@@onetwothreefour3957 I mean at the rate we are going with making these bombs I would not be surprised if a bombing is what causes our earth to implode on itself but that would take hundreds to thousands of more years to get there
The Tsar Bomba was insane. Even the Russians were like "yeah, that is a little excessive". And in their history Russia doesn't really hesitate on being excessive.
You know somethings crazy when the dude that has it says "aye man chill out"
@@justinmoss9488 no lie man, no lie. And the scariest thing about it was that it was designed for a total payload double that of what they actually used in that test. Imagine if they did go with the full hundred instead of 50. Bruh.

@@enderborn6860 fr fr, those russkies don't f*** around. Their logic behind it was "we can't make bombs as accurate as the Americans so instead we'll make a bomb that's so big it doesn't HAVE to be accurate because it will level the target as well as EVERYTHING around it". Pretty damn scary tbh.
Fun fact: The man who piloted the plane that dropped the bomb off was told he had a 50% chance of surviving when the bomb went off. You can imagine he hurried the fuck away as soon as that thing left the plane

They think about self defense, which is self preservation because of those who would destroy them for whatever reason…
@@rockstar1967 but in a nuclear war, if a country finds that another country has launched nukes against them, they would instantly launch a nuclear counter attack. So they would both destroy each other, it’s literally a lose lose situation.
“Why would we ever need this?”
You didn’t account for the most important element that makes up the bombs:
The Human Element.
Can you explain this to my dumb brain, please?
@@KiraAsakura14 he means that humans often times do things that don't make much sense. Most of those bombs could easily level military installations, yet they just get bigger and bigger. If I recall correctly, the tsar Bomba was actually just made to show military might by the Russians after the US had demonstrated their bombs. A true dick measuring contest.
@@thegodhimself5554 no it is a deterrent, there is a huge need for it because while no one will ever "drop them". Just the fact that they exist deters more world wars, hence why the term nuclear deterrent came to be.

Shit that last one turned into a fricking tree
Terrifying fact: The detonation of the Tsar Bomba dropped by the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics was so devastating that not only could the mushroom cloud be seen from space. But the impact of the explosion was able to be felt as far as western Finland, Sweden, north eastern Norway, and presumably Estonia, as well as the shockwave of said explosion was said to have traveled the world 2-3 times.
