    Fun fact about the tsar bomb it was originally supposed to have 100 megatons of tnt in it but they lowered it to 50 megatons because if they kept it at 100 the explosion would blow a hole through the atmosphere

To the west of Japan across the ocean, a large force of around 300,000-400,000 Russians were forming to push all the way to the sea and invade Japan. This made Hirohito surrender to the allies as Russia would most likely keep or puppet the land and it would be brutal. Also not counting the amount of men that would die if the Russians would invade.

      I read that ths Tsar Bomba when detonated was not that even as powerful as originally designed.
      The designers feared that the original configuration will trigger the atmosphere to be on fire so they disabled one of the plutonium core before it was tested.

    Tsar was actually initally designed to be twice the size of explosion radius but was reduced to give the pilots a 50/50 chance at survival after dropping the payload
    Edit: specifying that it was the size of the explosion that was reduced, not the size of the payload, by adding Lead and not building it to perfection, they were able to reduce the explosive radius. Thereby giving those pilots a chance. This comment got some traction so I'd rather not spread misinformation.

      actually it stayed the same size but instead of building it "to perfection" (= adding an extra layer of nuclear fuel) they added lead which would stop it. you can imagine that some silly lead wont stop an h bomb when it's already going off, but scientists calculated that it was 50% weaker than what wouldve been possible. some were actually afraid the bomb might break the earth's crust and cause a supervulcano to erupt with that kind of blast

    The tsar bomba's explosion was so big it needed a parachute to give the pilots a remote chance of surviving.
    Edit: even with the parachute they only had 50% of survival. 0% without the parachute

      It was technically only because the bomb was so big in mass it needed a huge plane to carry it, the faster jets were too small so they had to use a jumbo cargo that was slow af

    Terrifying fact: The detonation of the Tsar Bomba dropped by the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics was so devastating that not only could the mushroom cloud be seen from space. But the impact of the explosion was able to be felt as far as western Finland, Sweden, north eastern Norway, and presumably Estonia, as well as the shockwave of said explosion was said to have traveled the world 2-3 times.
    Pretty devastating for a bomb. Makes you wonder what all this is for.
    Edit: I know what all the nukes were designed for I'm just wondering why the nukes have to continue being built, "Humanity created nukes but no mouse would ever build a mouse trap."

      I also read somewhere that the explosion was so huge that it had changed the earth's rotation speed... Miniscule amount but still measurable enough. scary!
