    i visited Croatia in 2016 and had a similar potato-n-chard dish that was fantastic. they served it with the potatoes slightly mashed so the consistency was a little more creamier. it was one of the best meals i had on the trip and i now make it often as well. as a matter of fact, i plan to serve it with a prime rib roast for Christmas dinner this year.

    • @inthekitchenwithelisa
      @inthekitchenwithelisa  Před 7 měsíci +1

      How lovely that you share the same experience as I do with this dish😊 I will need to try to make it with slightly mashed potatoes, never had it that way yet. I can imagine how well it goes with a prime rib roast😋 We are on winter season in Germany at the moment, which means still some months to go until swiss chard will be back in season. Wishing you a great start into 2024!

    Firstly, you're so sweet. - Secondly, you won my heart by having planted "blitva" (croatian for swiss chard or mangold). It is grown easily even in a balcony box, in cool climates. - Thirdly, it is worth mentioning that this is served as accompaniment to grilled fish or squid. Nutritionally, mangold is not similar to spinach. It containes much less iron; also it produces a slightly goitrogene effect (similar to bok choy greens). However it is rich in potassium and matches potatoes well.

      Hi there, thank you so much for your kind words and for all the information you shared with us💕 Yes, I was inspired by the dish I tried during our holiday in Croatia. Luckily I found seeds for swiss chard as otherwise it is really hard to find here. Always love learning about new cultures and food cultures while travelling 😊

    Thank you so much for this recipe. During this coronavirus pandemic, Swiss chard and potatoes are two veggies that are still available. They also had chayote, which is a Mexican squash that is served often as a "potato" dish. Using your recipe, and adding the roasted chayote to the boiled potatoes and chard, this turned out to be a magnificent main course. (I am vegetarian.) Excellent :>)

      Really happy to hear you liked this one, the garden produce I am getting is allowing me to make more savory recipes :) I also didnt know about it before our trip to Croatia last year, but I really liked it there. It is very mild tasting, but very good in combination with potato and fish. I am going to experiment and add more recipes with swiss chard, well the ones that will be successful :) Happy to hear you are enjoying the shakshuka recipe so much :) I am craving it myself, but the weather is so crazy hot here right now, that I try and avoid using the oven as much as I can :D Your are welcome, my dear! Great recipe, I agree with you about the butter.
    One question; how can you work in the kitchen with those sleeves getting in your food? If you were using a gas cooker you would have set yourself on fire.

      Thank you Harry!😊 Butter makes so many things taste so much better😋 Oh, yeah, that's how I am😂 I like to wear nice things and don't always think about their practical side.. But luckily I don't have a gas hob or if I did I would be more precises about what I wear😊

      Hi Katie, I apologise for my late reply, I was on a holiday. Those are Swiss chard stalks/stems. I had planted Swiss chard with colourful stalks😊 You can obviously use any kind of Swiss chard for this recipe.

    • @inthekitchenwithelisa
      @inthekitchenwithelisa  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi there, you first remove the stalk so the part where the leafy green grows and cook it separately first like instructed in the recipe. Then you add in the leafy greens later as they take a shorter time to cook. I hope this helps😊

      I didn't actually, it went darker than I wanted, but it was not burned. Otherwise I would have chucked it away😅 (tastes horrible when burned and black) But that's why I also mentioned it in the video and told to keep the heat on medium so it doesn't brown them too fast, like mine did😅

    You need more liquid! The potatoes need to be the ones for mashed potatoes, so they fall apart.
    Actually you boil the swiss chard, not pan fry it in oil.
    You made it too complicated. Boil the potatoes, boil the swiss chard.
    Put both in a ceramic bowl, mix them. Add s&p, thin garlic slices and some olive oil. Done.

    • @inthekitchenwithelisa
      @inthekitchenwithelisa  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Actually this is the way I prefer to cook this dish and I like it this way. Nothing wrong with that 😉 I can see why you make it the way you make it, but I prefer my way, because I find it has more flavour.
